Stylized Birthday

I’m really having fun pulling out Designer Series Paper and actually using it. Rather than pulling it out, looking at it and putting it back, it’s being made into cards which will be sent and shared with people. Such an idea! At Onstage last month, Sara was talking about “make a card, send a card” because it’s a bit of a demo habit to have cards in boxes, unsent. Which means that we’re not sharing what we’re creating. Such a shame. So I’m embracing the making AND sending of DSP cards, egged on by Eimear, my sister’s upline in the UK. Her challenge to her team this month is to create ten cards using up old DSP and send them. Want to join us? Today’s card is a simple one featuring the Stylized Birthday stamp.

I wasn’t sure about the stamp set, Stylized Birthday, – it’s just a single stamp with a wooden block for $10. I wasn’t sure it was very versatile, but I’ve used it loads since I’ve got it. It’s just as useful inside the card as on the outside and here, it adds just the right touch to this beautiful bokeh piece of designer series paper. I heat embossed it in gold and it makes a really classy birthday card. The base is old olive and I left just a tiny border. After heat embossing, I like to use fast fuse to attach the paper – it usually ends up a little warped even though I put some heat onto the backside of the paper which flattens it out a little.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project. Please use the Stampin’ Rewards code to get five FREE handmade cards; the current Stampin’ Rewards code is 7UYN7HEJ (if your order is over $150, don’t use the code, you get the rewards, but you still get the free cards). In addition, to celebrate the new catalog, if you spend $50 this month, I’ll send you either the clear or gold faceted gems FREE (let me know which you’d like). Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits Dies

I’m not really sure how this card evolved; I meant to play with the large single dragonflies that are part of the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits Dies but somehow I had the five little ones cut out of gold foil before I knew what had happened! It’s a really fun bundle. I tried the Falling in Love DSP that I used yesterday but finally settled on a piece from the Serene Scenery DSP stack.

I glued the piece of DSP to an island indigo card base before doing the embossing. I’m not sure that it would be so easy to emboss on DSP – possible, yes since I’ve embossed on more delicate vellum before, but I figured it would be easier to handle with the card base supporting it. The sentiment is from the Dragonfly Dreams stamp set which is bundled with the dies. Then to finish, all I had to do was to glue on the gold foil dragonflies – again using the silicon mat and a sponge dauber.

I’m excited for the official start of the Occasions catalog and Sale-a-bration on Wednesday. I’m holding a launch party with make and takes and refreshments which should be really fun. If you’re close to Randolph, NJ and would like to attend, drop me an email.

Of course the beginning of Sale-a-bration means that the great close out sale currently going on is almost ending – tomorrow in fact is the last day. That’s also the case with the offer from me – a new, free stamp set. Just spend $40 with me and use the workshop code CBUJ4GTP, and you get to select one of Hey, Chick, Delicate Details or Designer Tee which I’ll send you for free once I close out this workshop on January 3rd. Check here for the details and also pictures of these stamp sets. If you spend $60, I’ll send you the pearl or rhinestone basic jewels as well. Email me at lizbaileycards@gmail.com to let me know which of the sets you’d like and whether you’d like pearls or rhinestones (if you’ve earned them), or I’ll just select one at random.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project. Please use the hostess code to get free product; the current one is CBUJ4GTP (if your order is over $150, don’t use the code, you get the rewards, but you still get the free gift from me). Cupcake Cutouts Framelits

This card almost put itself together after I was flicking through the beautiful images of the Serene Scenery DSP stack. This paper made me think of how as children we would blow these seeds off the heads and then make a wish. And since with the cupcake cutouts framelits, I now have the ability to die cut the word wish, it just had to be done.

Stampin' Up! Cupcake Cutouts Framelits and Sweet Cupcake and Serene Scenery DSP stack

I cut the DSP to 4 by 5 1/4 inches because I didn’t need any extra layers – they just didn’t do anything but look fussy. I’ve used cajun craze for the card base even though it isn’t officially in the stack but it worked with the centres of the dandelions and it set off the warmth of the photo beautifully. I obviously used the same colour for the stamping (the sentiment is from the matching Sweet Cupcake set) and the die cut. Just make sure you don’t lose the dot over the i if you’re intending to add it to your card. No, I didn’t – but almost!

Since this is a birthday card, I dry embossed the flap with lucky stars. Seems to fit somehow. And I didn’t have enough left from my DSP sheet because I cut it down oddly – I ended up with many strips trimmed off. But this works.

See you tomorrow,

Serene Scenery DSP Stack

I made this card for a challenge wanting welcome cards and then missed the deadline, but since we’re trying to hire some new people at work, it will come in very handy. I’m on the design team at CAS Colours & Sketches and last night I was commenting on some of the entries. One of the cards used the Serene Scenery DSP stack reminding me of its beauty and also of the fact that I’ve barely used it. So it was a no brainer to pull it out this morning.

Stampin' Up! Serene Scenery DSP stack and Welcome Words

This DSP stack is 6 by 6 inches which means that if you cut off 2 1/8 inch you have enough to cover the envelope flap to make a matching envelope and you still have a large piece for the card. I trimmed the long side to 5 1/8 inch so that I had 5 1/8 by 3 7/8. A mat of very vanilla measuring 5 1/4 inches by 4 gives a tiny border and fits perfectly on a crumb cake card base.

I added the sentiment from the retired set, Welcome Words. I’d prefer to use a current set, but I don’t believe that I have anything that says welcome. So to match, I stamped this in crumb cake – I tested this on the piece of DSP that I’d trimmed off to ensure that it would be dark enough to show. I like the rather beach look that the crumb cake adds to the weathered boards.

See you tomorrow,

Serene Scenery DSP Stack

Okay is the Serene Scenery DSP Stack one of the most gorgeous you’ve seen? Yes, I thought so!  One side of the paper we have photos and the other is patterns. What’s not to love? I decided to pair one of the photos which has the sun peeking through with the awesome word die cut from the Sunshine Wishes thinlits dies.

The stack has old olive and delightful dijon as a couple of the mentioned colours and so the skinny mat of old olive made sense. I tossed up between crumb cake and delightful dijon for the base and the sunshine diecut but the crumb cake was a little too bland. The delightful dijon on the other hand was fun. So I stamped the hello first in old olive – it’s from the Crazy About You set – and then glued the DSP to the old olive. I added that to the delightful dijon card base. Next came the sunshine from the Sunshine Wishes thinlits and I included the dot over the i which I hadn’t really noticed previously. The Pick Me Up tool (available from Amazon) really helps with tiny pieces of cardstock or embellishments.

If you’re using a DSP stack, you can get enough DSP for your envelope flap if you make the DSP 3 3/4″ by 5″. This really means that you need an extra mat, but being able to cover the outside flap of the envelope to coordinate is worth it!

Take a look at your DSP stacks and have some fun!

See you tomorrow,

Liz
