Fruit Stand DSP

This is one of my favourite papers from the 2016-1017 catalog, the Fruit Stand DSP. And this is my favourite paper from within this stack. The lemons are so beautiful. The Fruit Stand DSP is still available at the time of writing, but there are no guarantees.

I took a piece of pear pizzazz and cut it to a quarter inch under the card base ( 5 1/4 by 4 inches) and then took the DSP and cut it to an 1/8 inch under that. Before gluing everything together I cut out the big sentiment using the Hello You framelit dies out of pear pizzazz and then stamped the greeting in more pear pizzazz onto the DSP. I glued on the sentiment using my silicone craft mat, a dauber and multi purpose glue. The card base is daffodil delight. I am sad that the Hello You dies are retiring, I use them quite a bit. But I’m sure that there will be things to replace them.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project. Festive Birthday Designer Series Paper

Mike ran around the office and gathered birthday wishes from people onto the 8 1/2 inch by 5 1/2 inch card that I made yesterday. And at the end of the afternoon, he told me he was out of space and could he please have another! So, when I got home, I made another large card out of a single piece of card stock.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Festive Birthday DSP - Hello You thinlits dies - Crazy about you

I wanted this one to be completely different and so I checked out my stash of DSP. I love the Festive Birthday DSP, it’s so loud and so fun. I first cut out the happy using the Hello You thinlits dies and figured out how much DSP I needed. Then it was a matter of positioning things and finally stamping the “birthday” from Crazy About You in melon mambo. Then a bit of a trim on the DSP to get the look that I wanted (I didn’t want the “happy” to sit over any emerald envy) and I stuck everything down. The card looked best with a coloured card base (emerald envy) with a whisper white top layer and so to ensure that Mike has (hopefully) room for enough messages, I stuck a piece of whisper white on both sides of the inside the card.

I used another 12 by 12 piece of retired DSP for the envelope – this was It’s My Party from last year – and made it at 11 1/2 square. Not that the card is any bigger than yesterday’s but yesterday’s card was a tight fit. This works a little better. Hopefully it’s large enough for all of the well wishes!

I hope you enjoyed today’s project. Please use the hostess code to get free product; the current one is XD4D794N (if your order is over $150, don’t use the code, you get the rewards, but you still get the free gift from me). The “buy 3 get one free” offer for DSP is good for the rest of the month – and the Festive Birthday DSP that I used today is included in the offer.

Serene Scenery DSP Stack

Okay is the Serene Scenery DSP Stack one of the most gorgeous you’ve seen? Yes, I thought so!  One side of the paper we have photos and the other is patterns. What’s not to love? I decided to pair one of the photos which has the sun peeking through with the awesome word die cut from the Sunshine Wishes thinlits dies.

The stack has old olive and delightful dijon as a couple of the mentioned colours and so the skinny mat of old olive made sense. I tossed up between crumb cake and delightful dijon for the base and the sunshine diecut but the crumb cake was a little too bland. The delightful dijon on the other hand was fun. So I stamped the hello first in old olive – it’s from the Crazy About You set – and then glued the DSP to the old olive. I added that to the delightful dijon card base. Next came the sunshine from the Sunshine Wishes thinlits and I included the dot over the i which I hadn’t really noticed previously. The Pick Me Up tool (available from Amazon) really helps with tiny pieces of cardstock or embellishments.

If you’re using a DSP stack, you can get enough DSP for your envelope flap if you make the DSP 3 3/4″ by 5″. This really means that you need an extra mat, but being able to cover the outside flap of the envelope to coordinate is worth it!

Take a look at your DSP stacks and have some fun!

See you tomorrow,

Paper Pumpkin June 2016 alternate

I’m calling this a Paper Pumpkin June 2016 alternate although I am using a few extra products – however they are easy to switch out if you haven’t got what I used. I wanted to show that the dotty circle stamps makes for a really fun background and since I had a “sunshine” on my pile of die cuts that I was “just cutting to see how they looked’ (tell me you do that too!), it begged to be added to the card.

Stampin' Up! Paper Pumpkin June 2016 alternate - Banner Surprise and Sunshine Wishes and Crazy about you

I started with the idea of just doing 5 circles across the card in pumpkin pie and melon mambo but I needed to fill in the bottom of the card too for balance. I looked at the sentiments in the Paper Pumpkin Banner Surprise kit and although they are useful (happy, birthday, graduation, anniversary etc) they didn’t go with my sunshine die cut from the Sunshine Wishes thinlits set. So I pulled out the Crazy About You, a set that I’m so grateful has carried over along with its thinlits, and stamped the HELLO in crushed curry – the same colour as my die cut by the way.

I tried all three of the colours that I’ve used as a base or even as a mat but there was already enough colour and I finally decided on a thick whisper white card base. So that’s it – my first Paper Pumpkin June 2016 alternate. I think it’s a very happy card, let me know what you think.

See you tomorrow,

Bokeh Birthday

Last month I created a card with a twist on the bokeh technique; this is the technique which mimics photographs where the light is out of focus. In the carding world, it consists of a coloured background with white circles on top. I decided to be different, a surprise I know, and do red circles. But whilst I was creating that which was for a colour challenge, I rather liked the look of the background before adding the red. So I made another one.

Stampin' Up! Hello You thinlits dies and Crazy About You

As before I thoroughly dampened the piece of watercolour paper with the aquapainter and then added crumb cake and soft suede, also with the aquapainter. I blotted the excess ink and water from the edges. I used my stencil and sponge dauber to add craft white ink in various sizes of circles. You must allow the water colour paper to dry thoroughly although you probably don’t need to leave it for a month as I did on this occasion!

I made the stencil using the circles collection and the big shot and an acetate sheet from a photopolymer set. I had a spare acetate sheet after adopting the method of just sticking the stamps directly onto the box inside. You glue the printed sheet inside the plastic cover which gives you an instant nudge if there’s a stamp missing. Until the photopolymer stamps have been stained by red or purple, it’s easy to lose them on the desk. And the staining doesn’t impact their performance.

I cut out the word happy using the Hello You thinlits dies and soft suede card stock, using a piece of wax paper to help facilitate its removal. The word birthday is from the Crazy About You set and is stamped in soft suede also. The water colour paper is matted with more soft suede and held on with sticky strip to ensure that it stays put. This is then mounted onto a crumb cake card base. Rather than lining the envelope, I dry embossed the flap with the hardwood embossing folder.

See you tomorrow,
