Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits Dies

This was actually a post to showcase the bermuda bay glimmer paper but it’s sold out in the US. If you’re in one of the other markets you can still get it. But let’s assume that you have some leftover – or our standard glimmer paper! I was having trouble with this particular colour glimmer paper – trying to pair it with bermuda bay card stock and it just didn’t work. The other evening, I looked at it in frustration and realised that it looks a whole lot more like island indigo. Mostly. Bingo! And it looks great with the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits Dies.

So I’ve got a bermuda bay glimmer paper dragonfly and it’s so sparkly. I put it on a piece of whisper white edged by a skinny mat of island indigo. Bermuda bay just didn’t work. The card base is thick whisper white and the entire front of it is dry embossed with the petal burst textured impressions embossing folder – this is one of the items that (at least) is available as a freebie in the UK during Sale-a-bration. Not so in the US for some reason. I then decided to use one of my current favourite sets for sentiments, Bunch of Blossoms. But here I found that island indigo didn’t work for the sentiment – too dark, even stamped off it didn’t work. Bermuda bay looked much better. I’m thoroughly confused by the bermuda bay glimmer paper, just know that you should consider both bermuda bay and island indigo if you’re using it!

I used the layering circles framelits dies to cut out the sentiment and the slightly larger scalloped one to cut out a mat from the glimmer paper. I popped that up with dimensionals. This card has been many days in the making (the bermuda bay threw me off!) and I’m finally happy with it.

Dragonfly Dreams bundle

Mint macaron is going to be one of the colours that I really miss when it retires at the beginning of June. It took a little while to grow on me – as most in-colours do – but now I’m hooked. Don’t forget that card stock and re-inkers of the retiring in-colours are the first to go when the retiring list is announced so it’s best to get them now, before there’s a shortage. Especially since we’re still in Sale-a-bration and just stocking up on retiring goodies would probably get you to $50 and a freebie as well! The Dragonflyl Dreams bundle is a good one to get (if you don’t already own it) since Stampin’ Up! just announced that Dragonfly Dreams is one of the sets that will be in next year’s catalog. It’s safe to assume that the thinlits will still be there but not safe to assume that they’ll still be available as a bundle for a 10% discount.

Here I took a piece of watercolor paper and did a light mint macaron wash over it and then cut it out with the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits dies. I then added the sentiment from Dragonfly Dreams onto a piece of very vanilla and cut out the same dragonflies out of the very vanilla. I added a square of the mint macaron glimmer paper (Sale-a-bration freebie) to the back of the very vanilla piece and then glued down my watercoloured dragonflies attaching them with glue dots on the bodies. I curled up the wings a little to make them seem more 3D.  Finally I poked out pieces from my diecut of the very vanilla which aren’t parts of the wings and glued them back into place.

Dragonfly Dreams

Whilst we’re waiting for the servers to come back up, how about another sneek peek – and in fact another of the make and takes that we’ll be making at my launch parties. This one uses both parts of the dragonfly bundle – dragonfly dreams and the matching Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits dies.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Dragonfly Dreams - Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits Dies

I started by stamping the beautifully dragonfly in versamark and sprinkled on the gold embossing powder and then heated it. I love this technique and am excited to share it at my upcoming parties. I DID use my embossing buddy but didn’t notice a little stray powder because it was hiding on the island indigo paper and then decided that I didn’t want a one layer card as I was planning. So I cut out the dragonfly which made the card more fun AND removed the embossing powder glitch. Perfect! The lovely sentiment comes from the same set – stamped in island indigo on very vanilla and then added to the island indigo cardbase.

One important tip – I thought I could use snail on the body of the dragonfly and apply it with the dragonfly on the silicone mat to mop up the extra glue. Nope! The snail is too strong and ripped layers off the card stock, so don’t try that! There you go, I’ve saved you a ruined dragonfly. Instead I used the sponge dauber and multi purpose glue and dabbed it onto the body leaving the wings free to move.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project. Please use the hostess code to get free product; the current one will be updated as soon as the site is back (if your order is over $150, don’t use the code, you get the rewards, but you still get the free gift from me). I’ll post again when the servers are back up.

See you later,

Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits Dies

I’m not really sure how this card evolved; I meant to play with the large single dragonflies that are part of the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits Dies but somehow I had the five little ones cut out of gold foil before I knew what had happened! It’s a really fun bundle. I tried the Falling in Love DSP that I used yesterday but finally settled on a piece from the Serene Scenery DSP stack.

I glued the piece of DSP to an island indigo card base before doing the embossing. I’m not sure that it would be so easy to emboss on DSP – possible, yes since I’ve embossed on more delicate vellum before, but I figured it would be easier to handle with the card base supporting it. The sentiment is from the Dragonfly Dreams stamp set which is bundled with the dies. Then to finish, all I had to do was to glue on the gold foil dragonflies – again using the silicon mat and a sponge dauber.

I’m excited for the official start of the Occasions catalog and Sale-a-bration on Wednesday. I’m holding a launch party with make and takes and refreshments which should be really fun. If you’re close to Randolph, NJ and would like to attend, drop me an email.

Of course the beginning of Sale-a-bration means that the great close out sale currently going on is almost ending – tomorrow in fact is the last day. That’s also the case with the offer from me – a new, free stamp set. Just spend $40 with me and use the workshop code CBUJ4GTP, and you get to select one of Hey, Chick, Delicate Details or Designer Tee which I’ll send you for free once I close out this workshop on January 3rd. Check here for the details and also pictures of these stamp sets. If you spend $60, I’ll send you the pearl or rhinestone basic jewels as well. Email me at lizbaileycards@gmail.com to let me know which of the sets you’d like and whether you’d like pearls or rhinestones (if you’ve earned them), or I’ll just select one at random.

Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits Dies

I couldn’t resist another sneak peek from the upcoming Occasions catalogue that goes live on January 4th. This card showcases the beautiful Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits Dies with the sentiment from the coordinating stamp set, Dragonfly Dreams. I’m predicting that this is going to be a really popular bundle – it was one of the first things on my list and as a demonstrator, we got to order it early at the Onstage Local event that I went to last month. It was great fun but only a single day rather than the 2.5 days that you get at Onstage Live. In April, our “local” event is in Richmond, Virginia which is a plane ride away so my friend Julia and I (encouraged by my sister and her upline) are going to fly to Amsterdam for the main event. I’ll get to meet some of the people that I “chat” with on Facebook in person AND go to two and a half days of Stampin’ Up! fun including seeing the new incolours in person. Want to join us? Just become a demonstrator and you’re able to attend too. And get product at a discount at absolutely no risk. Whilst you’re thinking about that, let me show you the card that I made with the new bundle.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits Dies - Dragonfly Dreams - Gorgeous Grunge

The Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits Dies has a piece which cuts out these five dragonflies as a single piece and after cutting it out of a layer of very vanilla, I started putting DSP behind it to see what I liked. Nothing was giving me what I had in my head so I took a piece of watercolour paper and brushed on island indigo in varying shades. Then I went to work. When I got home, it was perfectly dry and I took some perfect plum and added strokes of that. Once that was dry, (crossing my fingers that it really was!) I used the embossing buddy and then gorgeous grunge with versamark and gold embossing powder to give the random dots real life. I used fast fuse firmly attach my watercolour paper to the very vanilla and then added the sentiment from Dragonfly Dreams in island indigo. The die cut was attached with glue dots under the largest part of the body leaving the tails and wings free; this meant I could bend the wings a little to give the idea of movement which makes sense for dragonflies flitting about. I played around with various mats but it detracted from the dragonflies so I ended up with just an island indigo card base. I really love how this turned out and will be playing with it some more but I’ll be back to holiday cards tomorrow!
