Moon Baby for a boy

I’ve finally done it! I’ve made a baby card for a boy! Every time I sat down to make a baby card lately, it came out as a baby girl one. Now I’m at least half prepared for the birth of my colleagues’ children. One is definitely a boy and the other is unknown so I just need another baby boy card in case. I meant to use the adorable toys in Moon Baby, but the baby with the umbrella demanded to be used again!

I used archival basic black to stamp the image onto watercolor paper and then actually left it overnight. Not because it needs quite that long to dry, but because I didn’t get to it. The pale blue is actually the pacific point watercolor pencil and a lot of water to get it quite that pale. I then matted it with night of navy which led to me stamping the sentiment in night of navy also and matting it in the same colour using the layering circles framelits die. I stamped the sentiment on watercolor paper as well so that the colour and texture matched the larger panel perfectly. The card base is actually marina mist – not a colour that appears anywhere else on the card, but it worked due to the very pale pacific point. After folding the card, I put the front into the Lucky Stars TIEF to create the texture – I like how it goes right to the edge of the card front.

Falling in Love DSP

I decided to showcase the Falling in Love DSP today in a way that doesn’t really fall into line with the “expected” use of this part of the Falling in Love suite. As I mentioned, I’m making congratulations cards for people at work who have just been promoted so this seemed like a good challenge. And since I had the Sunshine Wishes thinlits dies out for yesterday’s card, there was a good starting point!

I’m in IT which has far more males than females so it’s no surprise that I’m making 4 male cards and one female. I started with a 2 inch deep strip of the Falling in Love DSP (it’s the reverse side of one of the bokeh photos) and matted it with a piece of early espresso. The very vanilla and the early espresso look very rich with cherry cobbler which is why I wanted a large expanse of the red. To give it some interest, I ran a layer of cherry cobbler through the big shot with the lucky stars TIEF and then cut out the congrats from a piece of scrap using the Sunshine Wishes thinlits dies. To keep the richness of the look, I used a cherry cobbler base and then added a few enamel shapes also in cherry cobbler. I’m really pleased with how rich and luxurious this colour combination looks. Let me know what you think.

Designer Tee

It’s a slow day here today; I’m not sure if that’s because it’s snowing or whether I’d be moving slowly anyway! But it’s taken me all morning to get organised and blog writing. I decided to feature the new Sale-a-bration set, Designer Tee which I hadn’t yet inked up. The images are sized to fit on the t-shirts in the Custom Tee stamp set (which comes as a bundle with framelits) but I wanted to show an alternative use.

The image is stamped in real red and then cut out with what is becoming rather predictable – the Stitched Shapes framelits dies. The sentiment is from the same set. Once I had these two elements set, I wanted to add some texture, hence the lucky stars TIEF band along with a real red border. I contemplated ribbon or enamel shapes but it was getting a bit too much so I stayed clean and simple. I attached the image to the banner with dimensionals – it seems to work best for attaching to texture, just make sure you push fairly firmly on them to start with.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project. Please use the hostess code to get five free handmade cards; the current one is PNF6CKRH (if your order is over $150, don’t use the code, you get the rewards, but you still get the free cards from me). Vertical Greetings

So what do you do when you have a lot of Christmas cards to make and you’ve overused your Christmas stamp sets? I say, pull out Vertical Greetings. I was planning to add a hat to the tree, but it was too big and wasn’t giving quite the look that I was going for.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Vertical Greetings - Lucky TIEF

I inked up the tree in old olive and real red on a piece of whisper white. The stamping (or rather inking up) wasn’t perfect but I fixed that by adding the gold metallic enamel shapes! Amazingly I’d managed to keep the real red on the pot and the old olive on the tree – if you notice one end of the ink pad is curved, one is straight; it’s easier to partially ink a stamp using the straight edge. But I’d already planned a little bow and the gold baker’s twine from the trio in the holiday catalogue was the perfect little accent.

Of course, the vertical greetings set wasn’t planned as a Christmas set and thus doesn’t have a matching holiday greeting. I decided to leave off the sentiment and put one inside and highlighted the gold stars by running another piece of real red through the big shot using the Lucky stars embossing folder. Putting the tree panel (matted with old olive) to one side meant that the stars were more emphasised and stopped the card being too symmetrical. Although I did a maths degree and LOVE symmetry, it doesn’t work so well in cards!

Don’t forget the great close out sale currently going on and also the offer from me – a new, free stamp set. Just spend $40 with me and use the workshop code CBUJ4GTP, and you get to select one of Hey, Chick, Delicate Details or Designer Tee which I’ll send you for free once I close out this workshop on January 3rd. Gift box punch board

Happy Christmas and Feliz Navidad and Happy Holidays to everyone. I’m rather more organised than this time yesterday morning and have only one more gift to wrap. Fortunately in my family we don’t open gifts until after brunch which comes after Martin’s motorbike ride (if it’s warm enough – and it is this year) and my run. So there’s time. I was too busy making dinner last night to finish off.

I had a few pieces of paper to wrap (tickets to shows etc) and I wanted to make them less obvious and more substantial and so I got out my gift box punch board. Every time that I use this, I’m grateful to Jill who bought it for me as a Secret Pal gift last year.

Stampin' Up! Gift box punch board and sleigh ride edgelits dies and flurry of wishes and Oh What Fun and Merry Moments DSP and It's My Party DSP

I wanted to use a tag from the Oh What Fun tag kit that I made last week and went hunting for a DSP with mint macaron. I found the perfect paper in the It’s My Party DSP. I agree it’s a large box for a voucher. There may or may not be some paper towel and walnuts in there just to confuse the recipient. My sister was delighted to see that I was using the tag that she designed (in the middle) and that went perfectly with paper from Merry Moments DSP and some retired mossy meadow ribbon. The sentiment is embossed in white and is from Flurry of Wishes.

The final box is also using Merry Moments DSP but this one is upside down so that the box closure is on the bottom. This made the top cleaner and I decorated that with a bow made with the bow builder punch out of real red that was already dry embossed with stars using the Lucky Stars TIEF. Here’s a closer look at that

For details on the tags, please see my post from last week.

I really like the gift box punch board – I have three examples of different sizes, the board has instructions on it for 15 different sizes (in both cm and inches) so it’s really versatile. Really easy too.

I’d love to stick around and write more and put off my run, but I’d better get moving. I hope that your day is filled with love and fun and joy.

See you tomorrow,

Liz
