Falling in Love DSP

I decided to showcase the Falling in Love DSP today in a way that doesn’t really fall into line with the “expected” use of this part of the Falling in Love suite. As I mentioned, I’m making congratulations cards for people at work who have just been promoted so this seemed like a good challenge. And since I had the Sunshine Wishes thinlits dies out for yesterday’s card, there was a good starting point!

I’m in IT which has far more males than females so it’s no surprise that I’m making 4 male cards and one female. I started with a 2 inch deep strip of the Falling in Love DSP (it’s the reverse side of one of the bokeh photos) and matted it with a piece of early espresso. The very vanilla and the early espresso look very rich with cherry cobbler which is why I wanted a large expanse of the red. To give it some interest, I ran a layer of cherry cobbler through the big shot with the lucky stars TIEF and then cut out the congrats from a piece of scrap using the Sunshine Wishes thinlits dies. To keep the richness of the look, I used a cherry cobbler base and then added a few enamel shapes also in cherry cobbler. I’m really pleased with how rich and luxurious this colour combination looks. Let me know what you think.

Falling in Love DSP notebooks

I had a launch party for the new catalog last night and we had so much fun. We had snacks – hummous, cheese, grapes and chocolate chip cookies (two of them home made, I’ll leave you to figure out which two!), a free raffle, a little gift for everyone AND we made three cards. It was a good night. I’ve previously shared the make and takes, but here are the little gifts – covered notebooks decorated with Falling in Love DSP. This are extraordinary for me because they are neutral – in fact just sahara sand and very vanilla and I love them. The neutrals collection is my least used, I’m not fond of grey and brown isn’t really me either, so these are a surprise. The Falling in Love DSP is absolutely gorgeous – here’s a selection of the leftover notebooks.

Covering a notebook is easy – you just need a ruler. My notebooks are 3 inches wide (apart from the ones that are 3 1/16 – they weren’t cut with precision apparently) so that set the width of my card stock. I added 1/8 inch to the front (which measured 4 15/16 inch) to create a little lip to make them easy to open, 3/16 for the width and 1.5 inches for a piece on the back which meant a 6 3/4 piece of card which I scored at 5 1/16 and 5 1/4. I applied fast fuse just to the piece that goes on the back and carefully lined up the notebook with it’s cover. Then it was a  simple matter of stamping the sentiment from the SAB freebie, Designer Tee, in more sahara sand (!) and cutting it out with the layering circles and creating a scalloped border to go around it. I didn’t pop anything up because I didn’t want anything coming off the notebook if it was thrown in a purse.

I got carried away and made more than I needed – and then sickness got in the way and a few people couldn’t make it – so I have extra extra. I’ll throw one in with my thank you card to anyone who orders from me this month whilst they last. So if you want one of my remaining notebooks, order quickly!

All Things Thanks

I was playing with the Falling in Love DSP yesterday playing with another project, when this piece of DSP came to hand and I thought it would be great with the All Things Thanks set. The big bold sentiment paired with the dreamy out of focus bokeh background insisted on being put together. I think that they were right!

I used the embossing buddy of course and then inked up in versamark. I actually then stamped because I have the retired early espresso embossing powder, but if you don’t, just then ink up in early espresso and use clear embossing powder. It gives the same look and the versamark doesn’t seem to upset the other ink pads – I’ve been doing this for a while. I also heated the powder before adding the DSP to its mat since if it became wavy (heating the back of the paper helps to straighten it out), fixing it to the early espresso mat would take care of it. I used blushing bride as a card base which is odd because I fully intended to use sweet sugarplum! This is the paler edge of the DSP so possibly the sweet sugarplum would’ve been too much. I think I’ll get a piece from the more purple side of the sheet and make a similar card for comparison purposes. Wow! Can you believe that I made a card without the Stitched Shapes Framelits? Me neither! Although that gives me an idea…

I really love this DSP – I wonder if it might possibly be the first time that I need to order a second pack!

So Detailed Thinlits Dies

I decided to have some fun today and pulled out my new So Detailed Thinlits Dies. I didn’t have any sort of card in mind but it became a celebration card which seems fitting for the first day of 2017. Not only did I play with the beautiful new dies, I used the new Falling in Love designer series paper and matching stamp set, So in Love. It’s all part of the new Falling in Love suite. I love the bokeh look of the paper, so beautiful.

I took the colours for my card from the DSP – blushing bride and sahara sand – and cut the flowers using the So Detailed Thinlits dies. Next I stamped my sentiment in sahara sand onto a piece of blushing bride and originally I intended to have the banner cover the complete width of the card, but it just didn’t look right. So I figured out where I wanted the banner and cut the end of it off with the So Detailed Thinlits Dies so that it would match up perfectly. I then took my blushing bride cut out and snipped off the part that helps you use this to make a wrap around card and glued it onto the edge of my piece of DSP. Since it’s a detailed die cut, I used my sponge dauber and silicone mat with the multi purpose glue to gently dab glue onto the die cut eradicating any oozing. After attaching this to a blushing bride card base, I glued on my banner, matching up the cut outs. I love how this came out.

Don’t forget the great close out sale currently going on and also the offer from me – a new, free stamp set. Just spend $40 with me and use the workshop code CBUJ4GTP, and you get to select one of Hey, Chick, Delicate Details or Designer Tee which I’ll send you for free once I close out this workshop on January 3rd. So Detailed Thinlits Dies

Following the success of the detailed floral thinlits dies, Stampin’ Up! have brought out the So Detailed Thinlits Dies and they let us play with them at Onstage! Here the make and take was assembling a card with a belly band made of a delicate detailed piece cut using the dies and the coordinating stamp set So in Love  and the Falling in Love DSP. I was lucky enough to get the stamp set for free and the So Detailed Thinlits Dies and DSP are winging their way across the country to me at the moment and should arrive tomorrow. Can’t wait!

We used a pool party base and used the same ink to add a few flowers to the DSP before gluing it down to the base. The belly band was made out of a die cut piece of very vanilla and another piece which we carefully glued together loosely so that it would slide on and off. The sentiment is in crumb cake and this make and take also features the rather lush Very Vanilla satin ribbon (which I picked out of the box of supplies as it was passed round and round the table for us to share out the goodies) and the Falling in Love embellishments.
