Party Pop-up thinlits dies for CASology

The current challenge at CASology is Sprinkles. I fully intended to use the Sprinkles for Life set (obvious right?) and was undecided as to whether to go for the cupcake sprinkles or the rain when I remembered that I’d been planning on playing with the Party Pop-up thinlits dies. They are being carried forward to the new catalogue so I felt I should celebrate by using them. So I’m going with sprinkles in a confetti type way. Hope that’s okay for the challenge and that it’s CAS enough.

Stampin' Up! Party Pop-up Thinlit dies

I used the Party Pop-up thinlits dies on a piece of card stock that happened to be sitting next to my big shot – turns out it’s tangerine tango. I wanted to see how it looked as a front to a card. I trimmed the edges of the piece so that it actually popped out and cut off the piece making it into a word bubble. I then decided it needed some contrast behind the card and picked gold foil. Perfect. Except the piece needed to go on more tangerine tango but overall it seemed a bit bare. So I cut out another few pieces of the party pop-out thinlit with gold foil so that I could add the curly gold and the stars to the edges of the card. I popped the main piece up with dimensionals. The envelope is lined using retiring in colour DSP and the envelope liner framelits.

I used the hostess set, Happy Birthday Everyone for the inside, stamping the sentiment in tangerine tango on very vanilla. I love this sentiment – you need it. Really. And it’s retiring at the end of the month so you need to grab it asap. I added some spare gold foil curly ribbons cut out with the die to embellish it.

Party Pop-Ups Thinlits dies

I probably should have added a warning to yesterday’s post about today’s because I know that some people are going to be stunned by today’s card. Remember how in December I was determined to use a single enamel dot? It caused much hilarity at the crop as I worked hard to incorporate a dot. So putting five on a single card is quite a large step! Don’t worry, I’m not going to go crazy with embellishments!

I didn’t exactly plan this card, it just happened. Sometimes they are planned completely and sometimes they’re not at all. I’d cut out a couple of the Happy Birthday using the Party Pop-Ups Thinlits dies out of mint macaron and melon mambo and cut the edges off planning to use them on the card front somehow but inspiration didn’t strike the day that I did that. As they were both sitting on my desk, I wondered about offsetting them slightly and this is how the card was born. And then, because I was using mint macaron and melon mambo I got out the It’s My Party enamel dots and wondered. It did give me the idea of using crushed curry for the mat (since those are the three colours of the enamel dots) and I didn’t really need another sentiment to go with the big Happy Birthday and there was a lot of space left. Decision made. I quickly started adding a couple of dots. I like the happy confetti look that it’s added. The envelope is lined as it often is using the envelope liner dies and the retired backgrounds DSP from the regals collection. I do have the new collection but I had this one already cut out and with a sprained ankle I am restricting jumping up to use the big shot as much as possible. Actually I eventually had a little occasional table brought to me and put the big shot on that so that everything is at hand.

I was going to say that tomorrow’s post will be late – at around 8am, but I’ve been pretty late most days this week. Blame the ankle. 🙂

Unusually there’s no ink used to make this card, but here’s the rest of what I used.

Sunburst Sayings

This card gave the big shot a bit of a work out – I don’t think I’ve used so many different dies on a single card before. And there was almost no stamping, just the sentiment from Sunburst Sayings – which coordinates with the Sunburst thinlits die.

I actually cut out a number of the starbursts as I was trying to decide on the direction of this card. A couple of tips – use the big shot brush to get the cut piece out of the die and cleaned up (or the paper piercing tool) and not your thumb. I have a pretty good cut from the card that I tried that with! Also I put glue on the sunburst to the ends before trimming to fit the melon mambo cardbase, that could have been planned a little better. This DSP is from the It’s My Party DSP which is a fun collection of papers in happy bright colours. In this case, crushed curry and whisper white, so I continued those colours with the stamping and the mat. I punched out the sentiment with the 1.25″ circle punch and used the circles collection dies to cut out the mat which is popped up with dimensionals. I used another piece of the DSP to line the outside flap of the envelope to coordinate. And there’s one bright and happy birthday card. Except, that’s not all. There’s more fun on the inside.

This is the second die from the Party Pop-up thinlits dies with another piece of the It’s My Party DSP behind it. I cut the crushed curry at a quarter inch smaller than the card base, scored it in the middle and then lined the tabs on the die up with the score line.

Party Pop-up thinlits dies for PPA

When I got home from work on Thursday, there was a box full of new product at the front door. Although this was my first day in the office for the week due to being sick, I could not resist a little play. I made yesterday’s card for Komal (she loved it – it’s wonderful how giving a card makes people happy) and then instead of going to bed, I had to play with the Party pop-up thinlits dies. I loved Brian’s colour combination for the Pals Paper Arts challenge this week so much that I looked through the It’s My Party DSP stack again for a suitable paper for the back of my card. It’s really simple to do – I cut the mint macaron a quarter inch smaller than the card base and folded it in half. The party pop-up dies have arrows on them that you line up with the central crease and then a roll through the big shot and you have this great pop up card.

Just glue the DSP in place onto the melon mambo cardbase and then attach the mint macaron as well. Make sure you push the crease of the mint macaron well into the crease on the card base. The amusing thing about making this card is that after you’ve done all this, you still have the front of the card to do! Fortunately I persuaded myself to go to bed at this point.

I decided that balloons were the perfect image for the front of this happy and fun birthday card and pulled out more new items – the Balloon Celebration stamp set and it’s matching punch, balloon bouquet. You can get these as a bundle together and save 15%.

I first stamped the bundle of strings in basic black and then stamped various sized balloons in mint macaron and melon mambo on scrap paper, decorating some with the bubbles. After I’d arranged the balloons, popping some up with stampin’ dimensionals I decided that I needed a sentiment. Since the balloon strings are in the middle of the card, it just didn’t work putting anything either side so it needed to be a banner. The triple banner punch came in very handy – it’s not an essential tool since you can use other punches or scissors for the banner end, but it’s makes it so much easier. The sentiment is also from the balloon celebration set.

I decorated the envelope with another piece of the same DSP as is inside the card. I just cut a strip of the DSP, glued it to the outside of the envelope and trimmed off the excess.

Here’s the banner which inspired this card
