Succulent Garden Designer Series Paper

The Succulent Garden Designer Series Paper, and especially this pattern, is one of the best papers in the Occasions catalog in my opinion. It’s also running out (it’s hit the low inventory marker on the status report) and on sale at $6.60 down from $11. A steal. I had a different layout in my head but apparently my hands weren’t in the know and they cut the paper differently!

And once I had my piece of  Succulent Garden Designer Series Paper cut, it was a matter of looking for the right sentiment. It needed to be the right size and a single line. I eventually found a stamp that’s been sitting out since I couldn’t figure out where it came from – I eventually decided that it had to be from a Paper Pumpkin set and a quick look through the Paper Pumpkin pinterest boards revealed that it’s from the October 2016 Paper Pumpkin kit, Season of Gratitude. At least now I can put it away! I stamped it in mint macaron to match the DSP and used a mint macaron card base.

I hope that you’re feeling inspired to pull out some designer series paper and actually make some cards with it. It’s quite liberating cutting it up!

Paper Pumpkin October 2016 Alternate 4

I hope that your weekend is going well. Here’s my Paper Pumpkin October 2016 Alternate 4. This time I wanted to at least make the shaker card that is in the kit, but I couldn’t resist making a couple of tweaks. I felt that the card needed more of the old olive than just the twine and a hint in the sequins, so I added some old olive cardstock.

I followed the instructions in the kit apart from the added piece of old olive and once I’d added my sequins and put the shaker card piece on top, I added the thanks from the Greetings thinlits set which I’ve just realised is actually retired. However, if you don’t have this one, we have so many other words that would work – grateful from the Seasonal Frame thinlits dies which is currently at 50% off on the clearance rack would be perfect.

Here’s another shot with the card leaned over a little so that more of the sequins are obvious:

Paper Pumpkin October 2016 Alternate 3

I wanted to create another Paper Pumpkin October 2016 Alternate today and after a long overdue pedicure, I started playing.

I used the crackle background stamp to create a tone on tone background for my card – it’s so saffron ink. I then went looking for a contrasting colour, preferably one that I had in ribbon and discovered that the delightful dijon from the Ribbon 3/8″ Trio pack was perfect. So that set my colour scheme! I stamped the greeting from the paper pumpkin set in delightful dijon on very vanilla and cut it out using the layering oval framelits. I also cut out a mat using the same framelits in delightful dijon. The construction of the card was then pretty simple – dimensionals under the sentiment and the piece of ribbon and tombow everywhere else.

Paper Pumpkin October 2016 Alternate 2

Welcome to my Paper Pumpkin October 2016 Alternate 2. I’ve yet to make any of the cards as per the kit, I’m having too much fun making alternatives! The background crackled stamp gave such an intriguing texture to the leaf a few days ago, that I was quite fascinated with it and wanted to make it the star of my card. And I think I achieved that. I keep picking up the card and looking at the shiny copper and touching the texture!

I stamped the crackled stamp three times in versamark on elegant eggplant and then heat embossed with the copper powder. I love how it came out and I couldn’t bring myself to cover it up much at all.  So I left it the full width of the card on top of a elegant eggplant mat. The card base is tip top taupe and is also used for the sentiment which is also from this month’s Paper Pumpkin kit, Season of Gratitude. This was also heat embossed in copper (note to self: get another pot before really starting Christmas cards!) and cut out with the layering ovals framelits. I also cut out a piece of copper foil with the next size up in the framelits.

Loads of copper going on here – I like how it looks with the elegant eggplant. In fact, this combination may have me making more elegant eggplant cards than I’ve done lately. I find that there are colours that just don’t get used much at all. I think I’ll look through my cardstock and pull out another underused one as a challenge to myself. Want to join me?

Paper Pumpkin October 2016 Alternate

Here’s my first Paper Pumpkin October 2016 Alternate. The Season of Gratitude kit is really fun – 8 shaker cards with great leaf shapes and sequins. But pushing out the leaf shapes to make the shaker cards leaves (sorry) you with corrugated leaf shapes left over. So I decided to use them on a card.

The oak leaf was stamped with the “crackle” stamp from the kit in cajun craze and then I sponged it in the same colour. The maple leaf was sponged in crushed curry and the remaining leaf (no idea what that one is!) is pumpkin pie. I stamped one of the greetings from the set in cajun craze on very vanilla and then built my pile of leaves. The oak leaf is glued to the very vanilla piece and the other two are popped up with dimensionals and it’s all on a cajun craze card base. I really like the texture created with the corrugated card and sponging and also with the crackle stamp. It’s almost like a fake kissing technique.

This card fits perfectly with the current Paper Players challenge – clean and simple with a leaf.
