Eastern Medallions and Eastern Beauty

Today I’m sharing a card showcasing other thinlits from the Eastern Medallions thinlits dies; these are three nesting thinlits that can be used interchangeably with the one I used yesterday and another two smaller ones. Which means that there’s quite a variety of possible designs. I’ll do a post soon showing the various dies and some of the combinations. It’s quite amazing how much you can do with these.

I’m also showing a brand new product that is available in the Eastern Bundle kit and will be in the new catalog – the very vanilla notecards and envelopes. I cut out my beautiful medallion in tranquil tide but it’s actually designed to be a cutout in a large piece. So I snipped the edges that were still connected to the rest of the card into points. Once I had my medallion freed, I put it in place on my card and stamped the greeting from Eastern Beauty in more tranquil tide. With that stamped perfectly, I then used the silicone craft mat and a sponge dauber to add a little of the multipurpose glue to the back of the medallion and put it in place. And there you have it – a card that’s simple to create but is very effective.

One tip – be careful to line the points of the star up with the other pieces. The first time I tried this, I was just concerned about getting the three nesting pieces to be nested properly and it just didn’t look right with the inside pieces pointing in random directions.

Eastern Medallions and Eastern Beauty

Here’s another card that I made a few days ago whilst playing with the Eastern Medallions thinlits dies from the Eastern Palace suite. I absolutely adore the large flower die and the way that the petals are released to add a three dimensional feature to the card. In fact, I loved it so much, that I wanted to make it the highlight of the card.

I started by using the die in the corner of a piece of the new color, berry burst and then I helped bend the petals a little. A thumb at the base of the petal helps the petal bend properly. Next I used the matching stamp set, Eastern Beauty, on a piece of white scrap to stamp the sentiment and border. One of the layering circles dies cut this out and I glued it in place inside the flower. Holding the Berry Burst over a card base of thick whisper white showed that although it was looking beautiful, it needed just a little something. But not too much! So I added scored lines using the trimmer to make them 1/2 inch in from the edge and then the Simply Scored tool to deepen the lines. That was the perfect finishing touch. I think I’m going to make this card up in all of the in colors and will share them with you soon.

Eastern Medallions

I was playing with the new Eastern Medallions thinlits dies which are part of the Eastern Palace suite – this was released a month ahead of the new catalog in two bundles. Check them out in the store. I’d tried out a few of the Eastern Medallions dies but not all and it wasn’t until I tried one of the big flower looking ones, that I realised that some of the dies do a partial cut so that you get some awesome three dimensional effects. So I decided to experiment!

Here I used the Eastern Beauty stamp set and some of the beautiful Berry Burst ink (I think that melon mambo may be taking a bit of a back seat for the next 2 years!) and then used one of the dies from the Eastern Medallions set to cut the four “petals” around it. There’s also another die which cuts out the whole shape. I glued down the outer piece (it’s attached to the inner piece at the middle of each side) onto a layer of whisper white and put that onto a card base of thick whisper white. Why white on white? The added subtle border really added to the design of the card and made a super clean card. I love all of the white space.
