Totally Trees for Christmas

I mentioned that I’m sad that Totally Trees is retiring. It’s such a versatile set – it can make (and has) birthday cards, thank you cards and Christmas cards. I think I could make it into a Valentine’s one too. But today, Totally Trees is making a Christmas card.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Totally Trees - Wonderful Winterland - Paper Pumpkin - Paper Pumpkin November 2016 - Confetti Stars Punch

I stamped the basic tree in always artichoke and then coloured some of the splodges in cherry cobbler, always artichoke, daffodil delight and the gold wink of Stella. Next I cut it out with my current favourite, the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies. I love that the stitching adds a border that means you don’t need another mat. So easy.

I used the November Paper Pumpkin, Wonderful Winterland, for the sentiment which I stamped in cherry cobbler and then popped up the oval on dimensionals. The tree needed a little something and although I tried stamping a star using Totally Trees again and using the dazzling diamonds embossing powder, it wasn’t enough. I instead pulled out the retired confetti stars punch and punched out a gold foil star which worked perfectly.

Perpetual Birthday Calendar – December

Here’s the final month in my perpetual birthday calendar. For this one, I wanted to emphasize snow – and the snow flurry punch and some silver glimmer paper helped me do that.

Stampin' Up! Perpetual Birthday Calendar

I started by stamping December in night of navy and then added the December images from the Perpetual Birthday Calendar stamp set in night of navy and marina mist. I cut out a number of snowflakes using the snow flurry punch and decided that the larger one looked best – I used fast fuse to firmly adhere the heavy silver glimmer paper. It still needed a little more sparkle so I grabbed the confetti stars punch and punched out little stars. I fixed these on with the multipurpose glue which worked okay after it was really dry. Until that point, it seemed to be easy to knock them off.

Stampin' Up! Perpetual Birthday Calendar

Most of my class didn’t get this far – other  priorities like making dinner and ferrying children around interfered. I suppose that 5 hours for the total calendar speaks to how much fun we were having – and how many trips to the cookie rack were incorporated into the fun. The up side is that we’ll have another class to finish off soon although the later months aren’t really needed quite yet.

I’ll do a round up with pictures of all the months in one place soon – and will also show the changes that I made to a few of the months during the class.

See you tomorrow,

Liz

More congratulations

Yesterday was Julia’s son and fiancee’s engagement party so Julia and I spent the previous three evenings baking. It was fun – we always have fun together – but hard work. Hence the lateness of this post. Here’s the card that I made for Ross and Abby – I hope they like it.

cajun craze congrats

Base: 8.5″ by 5.5″ cajun craze

Top layer: 4″ by 5.25″ cajun craze

Stamp set: Bravo

Ink: versamark

I used the confetti stars punch on the edge of the cardstock and then, after swiping the embossing buddy over the card, stamped the Congrats! in versamark and sprinkled the gold embossing powder over it. After a couple of flicks to the back of the card to remove excess, I used the heat emboss tool. Next I cut a piece of gold foil just a tad under 5.25″ by 1.25″ and adhered it behind the stars. It’s easiest to put the glue on the card in order to avoid the cut outs.

To finish I used the backgrounds DSP to line the envelope. I made this on Saturday morning just before the brunch. Since I really like this design, I think I’ll make a few to have on hand in order to be a bit more prepared!

Congratulations!

One of my colleagues at work just got promoted – actually two of them did, so there will be another congratulations card soon. I have some time to make it because Donna is on vacation for the rest of the week. Fortuitously, the second free stamp set that arrived last week was Bravo – lots of congratulatory stamps. So I thought that using it to make a card for Matt would be perfect.

night of navy and silver congrats confetti stars

This didn’t turn out the way that I had half planned. I was thinking to do the Congratulations text heat embossed in silver and then mat it in something yet to be decided. I grabbed a piece of scrap card and stamped and embossed. It happened to be a piece of night of navy which I’d punched the confetti stars into but I’d messed it up and the edge of the card was through the middle of some stars. But when I’d embossed the text, I realised that it looked really good with the stars – I like how the stars tie in with the one in the text. And it looked even better when I grabbed some silver foil paper and put that behind the stars.

Base: Night of navy 8.5″ by 5.5″

Top layer: Night of navy 4″ by 5.25″

Stamp set: Bravo

Ink: Versamark

I have found that using 5.25″ to punch the confetti stars leaves me about 1/8″ border at each edge of the stars so that all of them are whole.

Welcome to my blog

My sister recently got me hooked on making cards – not something that I ever thought I would enjoy and I have found that I absolutely love it! I think about card design at many odd moments, even when out running and it’s given me a greater appreciation of design in general. I am an independent Stampin’ Up! demonstrator and will be featuring cards and projects made with their products.

Today is a special day with the launch of the Holiday Catalogue (it’s also my birthday, so it seems a good day to start a blog!). It’s full of tempting items and I bought more than I initially planned. I confess it feels a little odd to be making Christmas cards in August when it’s 70 or so degrees outside, but I can’t resist playing with my new purchases.

Details:

Base: Very vanilla card stock 8.5 x 5.5 inches scored in half

Mat: Cherry cobbler cut at 5.25 x 4 inches

I used the Merry Christmas sentiment from Sassy Salutations stamped in versamark and then sprinkled on the stampin’ emboss powder in gold. The heat tool did the magic and turned the dull looking embossing powder into a glorious gold. I then used the confetti stars punch at the bottom of the card. My experiments have shown that by having a 5.25 inch piece of card and starting the punching at just past the little star on the right of the punch, that no stars will be cut in two. Using my gold Stampin’ dazzle marker, I dotted the middle of some random stars to get the placement on the cream card and then scribbled a small square around the dot. I was really pleased with how this one turned out.

See you tomorrow,

Liz
