Foil Frenzy Specialty DSP

I needed a gift box and of course it’s a simple matter to make one. The hardest part was deciding on which of the beautiful foiled patterns to use from the Foil Frenzy Specialty DSP pack. There are three 1 sided designs in four colours with the coloured foil printed onto heavyweight kraft paper. Perfect for boxes – or anything else! I picked the lemon lime twist foil stripes and decided on a lemon lime twist base.

First I measured my contents and determined that I needed a box 5 1/2 by 6 1/4 by 1 inch. So to allow for the sides, that meant cutting a piece of lemon lime twist cardstock at 7 1/2 by 8 1/4. I then scored that at one inch all the way around, cut the tabs loose and made the box. For the lid, I cut a piece of the foil frenzy specialty paper at 1/16 inch larger (one tiny notch on the Stampin’ Up! trimmer) and then continued as before scoring 1 inch on all four sides. The slightly larger piece means that it fits snuggly onto the base. I added a little notch to make it easier to open using a 3/4 inch circle punch. This photo shows the lemon lime twist foil stripes better.

For the decoration, I closed the box with a piece of the lovely 1/2 inch finely woven ribbon. Next I heat embossed in gold part of a sentiment from Better Together onto a piece of lemon lime twist and cut it out with the layering oval dies as well as a gold foil scalloped mat. The leaves maybe puzzling you – it’s a sneak peek of a new leaf punch that will be available next Friday, 1st September. It’s great for just adding a little bit of interest.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project.

Happy Birthday Gorgeous

Today’s card is based on one that I received a couple of weeks ago and which inspired me to order the Pick a Pattern washi tape – you can see that post here. The white parts of the washi are slightly see through so an intense color like Berry Burst works well.

I cut my upper layer half an inch smaller than the card base so that I could wrap the ends of the washi under (I haven’t embraced the torn edges looks and doubt I ever will!) and then have a basic black mat to give a frame for the card. I then used the white craft ink which is lovely and juicy to stamp my greeting from Better Together and sprinkled on the white embossing powder.

I used the Stitched Shapes framelits dies to cut this out but decided that the card needed a little extra pop. The Happy Birthday Gorgeous set has some lovely balloons and a single one gave me just what I was looking for – and as a bonus the balloon bouquet punch cuts it out perfectly. I popped it up with a few dimensionals and the card was complete.

Better Together

I put off buying Better Together because I thought it was a bit expensive and I wasn’t sure how much I’d use it, but I decided to add it to a recent order and I’m so glad that I did. I really love a lot of the typefaces and can see that this is going to be a very frequently used set. In case you were on the fence like me, here’s a closer look at it.

Today I decided to make a birthday card and to go simple. No surprise there. I’m still stuck on the new in colors – today it’s berry burst and lemon lime twist.

I stamped the beautiful sentiment in the archival basic black and added the party hat at a jaunty angle. The spots were colored in using the Stampin’ Write markers in the new in colors as mentioned. Then I trimmed down my top layer a tad (it’s half an inch smaller than my card base) and added a skinny mat of berry burst. And that’s it. Clean, classic, elegant. What do you think?
