Flower patch

Here’s a CAS card using a couple of the new in colours, delightful dijon and watermelon wonder.

Stampin' Up! Flower Patch

I used one of the small flower “insides” from the Flower Patch set, stamped in the two colours. The sentiment, stamped in watermelon wonder, is from a just retired hostess set, Because You Care although it’s only half of the sentiment. The Hello that’s the top portion of the sentiment was just too big for this card. I stamped on a piece of very vanilla and mounted that on a watermelon wonder card base. And that’s it. Easy to reproduce this one.

Because you care

I’m having a very CAS (clean and simple) week. My cards are usually CAS; CAS is generally defined as having a lot of open space, minimal (if any) embellishments and clean lines. I look at it as not being overly fussy. It wasn’t a conscious choice to fall firmly into the CAS camp, it’s just that I prefer my cards this way. I was happy to find that there’s an official term for it!

This card though, is really ultra CAS!

Stampin' Up! Because You Care

The beautiful border is from a hostess set, Because You Care and is only guaranteed to be available until today; after that it’s available until the stocks are depleted and then only until June 2nd. So if you want it, you need to move quickly!

It’s stamped on very vanilla in one of the new in colors – cucumber crush. I wasn’t crazy about this colour when I saw it online but now that I can see it in person, I love it. The sentiment is from the A Dozen Thoughts set. To stop the card from being too clean and simple, I gave it a skinny mat of cucumber crush which just finishes it off perfectly in my view. Let me know if you agree. Or not! Since I had the stamp out and inky, I added a stripe across the envelope to match.

Cards for the gift bags

As I mentioned yesterday, I wanted to make some cards to go into the gift bags that I created to thank my new Paper Pumpkin subscribers. The bag isn’t big enough to hold my normal sized cards so since I would need to make envelopes, I turned to the new in colours since I have the new envelope paper in these shades. Or maybe I just wanted to play with more of the new colours.

Cards sized 3″ by 4″ will fit happily in the bag and even more happily I found that an envelope for this size card needs a piece of paper 6″ by 6″ so I can get four envelopes out of one sheet of paper. Very nice.

Stampin' Up! Because you care and Million & One

I started with very vanilla card stock and stamped the sentiment from the Million & One set in mint macaron. This set is retiring so you only have until next week to get it if you want it! I then took some mint macaron card stock and using lost lagoon ink used some sentiments from the hostess set Because You Care. This is also retiring. As you can see, they pair beautifully with the envelopes made with the mint macaron envelope paper and there’s no need for lining since the inside of the paper already has a good liner – like pattern.

Stampin' Up! Million & One and Larger than life

I decided that the tip top taupe would pair nicely with the mint macaron. I decided to take it up a notch by embossing the sentiment from Million & One with gold embossing powder onto the tip top taupe. I then pulled out the Larger Than Life set and stamped the first initial of both of my subscribers onto a very vanilla card in tip top taupe. I’ll have to ensure that they get the right bag! I made the envelopes out of the tip top taupe envelope paper.

Boho Blossoms Birthday

I recently made a card for a clean and simple challenge with a row of flowers along the bottom of the card. I liked it so much that I decided to do the same kind of design. As often seems to happen, the card didn’t cooperate! I started by punching out shapes using the boho blossoms punch (it cuts out three shapes at a time) and three colours of card stock – lost lagoon, pear pizzazz and pool party. I arranged the larger shapes along the bottom of my very vanilla top layer but just couldn’t get it to look right as a horizontal card. So I flipped the card and went vertical; after gluing the shapes on I trimmed off the overhanging parts of the shapes with the stampin’ trimmer.

I hadn’t decided what the card was going to be at this point and instead went searching for a sentiment that would fit properly in the space and eventually decided on the sentiment from the Because You Care hostess stamp set. This was when I decided to add some of the smaller shapes; I tried stacking them on top of the large shapes already glued down but it was too fussy for me, so I just added a few on the sides. I then glued the very vanilla piece to a pear pizzazz card base and lined the envelope with the matching colour from the backgrounds DSP. This card didn’t end up anything like my original idea, but I am pleased with it. I think I will make it again in different colour ways too.

See you tomorrow,

Irresistibly Yours DSP and a colour wheel

On Sunday I sat down to have some fun with my crafting supplies and had one of those days where nothing looked right. But I did use a sponge dauber and rose red ink on a piece of the Irresistibly Yours specialty designer series paper. I don’t know why I haven’t used this before, it’s really fun and I have several packs of it! It’s one of the items you can get for free during Sale-a-bration – you select a free item for every $50 you spend (not including tax and shipping). So on Monday, the piece of coloured DSP was screaming to be used. And this card slowly evolved.

Stampin' Up! Because You Care

I originally was going for a monochromatic look and had stamped the sentiment in rose red on whisper white – the sentiment is from a new hostess set, the Stampin’ Up! Because You Care set. I then matted the whisper white with more rose red card stock. The issue was that my sponging didn’t precisely match the card stock, I’d got a deeper depth of colour. Whilst I thought about that, I realised that the card needed something more and introduced the spring flowers DSP to the party. I then glued the DSP and the dry embossed piece of whisper white onto my card front. As soon as I’d done this, I decided that I didn’t like where the DSP joined the dry embossed piece of whisper white and started looking at ribbon to improve the look. No rose red ribbon. Naturally.

I recalled that Jen had emailed me a colour wheel and I’d been intending to play with it. According to the wheel, the complimentary colour was a yellow green. Sounds like pear pizzazz. And lo and behold, I have ribbon in pear pizzazz. So I stamped the sentiment again in rose red and cut it out with the circles framelits and also a circle of pear pizzazz for matting. I don’t like the ribbon to show in the inside so I cut my DSP and embossed piece down to 5.25″ by 4″ which had the advantage of trimming the edges where they weren’t quite matched up. Then I wrapped the ribbon over the join and secured it with tape. I then glued this panel to a pear pizzazz card base. Finally I used stampin’ dimensionals to pop up the sentiment.

Since I still had the rose red ink out and a dirty stamp, I decorated the envelope as well. I also lined the outside flap with pear pizzazz.
