You’re a star

I wanted to create a congratulatory type card for a friend of mine and whilst my sister was over last month, I played with her Stampin’ Up! Pictogram Punches set. It was finally appropriate to send the card last week, so I can now share it.

The vase and stems are on the same stamp so I used the Stampin’ Write markers to colour the stamp and then breathed hard on it to moisten the ink before stamping on very vanilla card stock. I got the colour combination of rich razzleberry, pear pizzazz and tempting turquoise from the Colour Coach and played around with various variations before deciding on this one. After stamping the flowers in rich razzleberry, I stamped another on a piece of scrap paper and punched it out using the coordinating punch from the Itty Bitty Accents punch set. I popped this up on the middle flower using a little piece of a stampin’ dimensional.

The sentiment is a single stamp also, so I again used the markers to colour it in. A very short post today, but it’s a very simple card (although no less effective for that) so there’s not much to say. And I’m trying not to procrastinate too much today and get out of the door for a run. There’s not much point waiting because the temperature isn’t going to get much above the current 34!

I am pretty intimidated by sketch challenges and this was no different. But I let it percolate and percolate and a card that I made earlier in the week was almost there. And then I knew what I wanted to do. 🙂

bbs bravo with twine

I don’t like too many layers or fuss, so three bands of something bothered me until I realised that it could be ribbon. Or even twine. I started looking at the new in-colours ribbon but finally decided that twine was the way that I wanted to go. Which restricted my choices a lot (perhaps not a bad thing!). My favourite colours from last year’s in colours are strawberry slush and baked brown sugar. I’m still a bit off pink after my pink cat card so went brown which is a very unusual direction. I checked all of the colours to see what would work and pear pizzazz made the pick. This card is a first in that it has TWO layers of dimensionals.

Other: Baked Brown Sugar baker’s twine, versamark, embossing buddy, gold embossing powder

It’s a Clean and Simple card. Emboss the sentiment in gold and mat it in baked brown sugar. Put the three lengths of twine over the mat and use stampin’ dimensionals to raise the mat off the card base to hide the fact that the twine makes it uneven. I also put dimensionals under the sentiment matting due to the twine. I finally used my crumb cake envelopes since they seemed to match better than the very vanilla.

Double Emboss

I have a pile of cardstock stacked up for later. It consists of partial ideas or leftover pieces from other projects that in the end, weren’t needed. Sometimes I go through the pile to let my subconscious have something to noodle on. I was feeling a bit blocked on Saturday and my autumn card that I’m working on just wasn’t feeling right so I picked up the pile and this card just fell together. When I was making Matt’s congratulations card last month, I’d planned to start with the lucky stars embossing folder but in the end, went in another direction. I’d also silver heat embossed the sentiment on a scrap and that was sitting in the pile. I thought that I could pull out my brushed silver cardstock for the first time and create a mat for the sentiment and it would work on the embossed stars. And it did.

Small mat: 4 5/8″ by 2 1/8″ brushed silver (the odd size was because I trimmed the card stock around the sentiment until it looked “right” and then added 1/4 inch for the mat)

This is a fun and easy card to put together and, if you needed a load of congratulations cards, simple to mass produce. I cranked the large navy mat through the big shot in the lucky stars embossing folder. I love the embossing folders – the texture that they create is wonderful.  I then stamped the sentiment onto the smaller piece of navy in versamark, sprinkled over the silver embossing powder and used the heat gun. All that was left was assembling all of the layers – rather more layers than normal!

More Cat Congratulations

Donna is another of my colleagues who was promoted this year. I don’t believe that she reads my blog, but if so – sorry, that you’re seeing your card before you receive it and congratulations! Donna is a cat person so whilst trying to create the card for Dr Demaira, I somehow easily came up with this one which is a surprise since the first one was so difficult.

Other: silver foil paper, silver embossing powder

This was a fairly simple card. I embossed the cat in silver on blackberry bliss and then cut it out with oval #3 (counting from the smallest die) and then created a frame from silver foil by using ovals #3 and #4. A bit more silver embossing for the Congratulations from the Bravo stamp set and the card was pretty much done. I used the Park lane DSP to line the envelope. I’m really pleased with how this came out and I hope Donna likes it.

 

More congratulations

Yesterday was Julia’s son and fiancee’s engagement party so Julia and I spent the previous three evenings baking. It was fun – we always have fun together – but hard work. Hence the lateness of this post. Here’s the card that I made for Ross and Abby – I hope they like it.

I used the confetti stars punch on the edge of the cardstock and then, after swiping the embossing buddy over the card, stamped the Congrats! in versamark and sprinkled the gold embossing powder over it. After a couple of flicks to the back of the card to remove excess, I used the heat emboss tool. Next I cut a piece of gold foil just a tad under 5.25″ by 1.25″ and adhered it behind the stars. It’s easiest to put the glue on the card in order to avoid the cut outs.

To finish I used the backgrounds DSP to line the envelope. I made this on Saturday morning just before the brunch. Since I really like this design, I think I’ll make a few to have on hand in order to be a bit more prepared!
