Hey Chick Happy Day

It’s funny how your opinions of stamp sets change – I was on the fence about getting Hey Chick, but I’ve been having so much fun with it and the new watercolor pencils. I’m so glad that I got it. Especially as it was free – and can be for you too. It’s one of the Sale-a-bration products which means that it’s one of the items you can select every time you spend $50 (before tax and shipping) during Sale-a-bration which started earlier this week and goes on until the end of March.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Hey Chick

I again used the watercolor pencils and a blender pen after stamping the image with the archival basic black. One tip that I have for you is that you must give it time to dry before using the blender pen or you get a chicken tinged with grey. No need to discuss how I know that! You could use the heat gun but I actually left mine overnight – not on purpose, it just happened that way. I used the daffodil delight, pumpkin pie and bermuda bay pencils, first laying down some colour and then using the blender pen to move the colour around to erase the pencil lines (I love watching that happen) and then blending where the colours change. I added more colour where I felt I needed it and repeated until I was happy. There’s something very therapeutic about this process.

The rest of the card is also easy (luckily since it’s my third make and take at my launch parties) – cut out the image with the wonderful stitched shapes dies, dry emboss a piece of bermuda bay with the Seaside TIEF, stamp a sentiment from the same set on daffodil delight and make it into a banner using the triple banner punch and then construct. I like to use snail or fuse (or a mixture) to adhere dry embossed pieces. And I used dimensionals to pop up the chick – I think she deserves it.

Dragonfly Dreams

Whilst we’re waiting for the servers to come back up, how about another sneek peek – and in fact another of the make and takes that we’ll be making at my launch parties. This one uses both parts of the dragonfly bundle – dragonfly dreams and the matching Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits dies.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Dragonfly Dreams - Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits Dies

I started by stamping the beautifully dragonfly in versamark and sprinkled on the gold embossing powder and then heated it. I love this technique and am excited to share it at my upcoming parties. I DID use my embossing buddy but didn’t notice a little stray powder because it was hiding on the island indigo paper and then decided that I didn’t want a one layer card as I was planning. So I cut out the dragonfly which made the card more fun AND removed the embossing powder glitch. Perfect! The lovely sentiment comes from the same set – stamped in island indigo on very vanilla and then added to the island indigo cardbase.

One important tip – I thought I could use snail on the body of the dragonfly and apply it with the dragonfly on the silicone mat to mop up the extra glue. Nope! The snail is too strong and ripped layers off the card stock, so don’t try that! There you go, I’ve saved you a ruined dragonfly. Instead I used the sponge dauber and multi purpose glue and dabbed it onto the body leaving the wings free to move.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project. Beautiful You for my make and take

As I mentioned yesterday, I’m holding a catalog launch on Wednesday (also on Monday 9th) and today I’m sharing one of the make and takes. I love the Beautiful You stamp set – it’s so simple, has elegant lines and you can make a super card with very little effort. Perfect for a make and take!

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Beautiful You

So, here we have a very simple elegant card using the Beautiful You stamp set which will be available for purchase tomorrow. I stamped the image using the archival basic black and added the watercolour like wash in emerald envy using the same colour for the sentiment. I also put the piece of whisper white onto a card base of emerald envy. I hope that my launch stampers like it.

So Detailed Thinlits Dies

I decided to have some fun today and pulled out my new So Detailed Thinlits Dies. I didn’t have any sort of card in mind but it became a celebration card which seems fitting for the first day of 2017. Not only did I play with the beautiful new dies, I used the new Falling in Love designer series paper and matching stamp set, So in Love. It’s all part of the new Falling in Love suite. I love the bokeh look of the paper, so beautiful.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - So Detailed Thinlits Dies - So in Love - Falling in Love DSP

I took the colours for my card from the DSP – blushing bride and sahara sand – and cut the flowers using the So Detailed Thinlits dies. Next I stamped my sentiment in sahara sand onto a piece of blushing bride and originally I intended to have the banner cover the complete width of the card, but it just didn’t look right. So I figured out where I wanted the banner and cut the end of it off with the So Detailed Thinlits Dies so that it would match up perfectly. I then took my blushing bride cut out and snipped off the part that helps you use this to make a wrap around card and glued it onto the edge of my piece of DSP. Since it’s a detailed die cut, I used my sponge dauber and silicone mat with the multi purpose glue to gently dab glue onto the die cut eradicating any oozing. After attaching this to a blushing bride card base, I glued on my banner, matching up the cut outs. I love how this came out.

Beautiful You and an Aquapainter

I made a number of cards using Beautiful You as soon as I got it – and in fact made a box to hold them which I’ll share later on. This card uses the regular whisper white card stock which is still my preference for stamping. It’s been pressed so that the surface is beautifully smooth and perfect for stamping. The thick whisper white is wonderful for card bases since it’s more sturdy, but it’s not as perfectly smooth for stamping. So I use both.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Beautiful You

I used the aquapainter with a tiny amount of water (easier to control) because the whisper white won’t absorb much and did a very quick wash over the girl’s dress. The umbrella was stamped on a piece of pool party from the Subtles DSP stack and then snipped out and glued over the original stamped umbrella. With a skinny black mat as a frame and one of the sentiments on the pool party card base, I was almost done.

Since I had the Subtles DSP stack out, I cut a piece to put over the envelope flap to pull it all together. I’m planning a class based around this set in early February (the 5th) in case you’re local and interested.
