Banners and Banners for a baby card

I decided to make a selection of baby cards so that Julia has a choice. Here’s the second one and it uses both Banner Blast and Banner Banter as well as Bravo. Banner Blast is a Sale-a-bration set from last year which I won at a recent crop.

Stampin' Up! Banner Blast, Banner Banter and Bravo

I stamped banners from both the Banner Blast and Banner Banter sets in soft sky with the sentiments in island indigo; I was so happy that the banner punch works for both sets. It wouldn’t be difficult to snip them out, but the punch makes life very easy. I then took a piece of the soft sky 1/8 inch taffeta ribbon and I first attached the middle banner with a glue dot. Then working sideways and measuring the gaps between the banners (it’s one square or 0.5cm on the grid paper if you’re interested) I added the others. I then decided that the banners would be best with little pieces of stampin’ dimensionals and added little pieces to the back of each banner. Then it was a simple matter of anchoring the ribbon behind the piece of whisper white with tape and carefully pressing the banners down into place one at a time.

The sentiment is from the Bravo set and is stamped in island indigo. I lined the envelope as usual with the envelope liners (so easy to cut out 8 from a single sheet of DSP) with the Backgrounds DSP in soft sky.

See you tomorrow,

Liz

Banner Blast with Vivid Vases

This is another card that I made at the Winter crop weekend earlier this month and it was just after I’d been lucky enough to win a door prize. I’d made a banner card with my winnings and then decided to make the vases a bit more exciting. The Stampin’ Up! Banner Blast set has a couple of small stamps, a star and a flower and I decided to decorate the vases with those.

Stampin' Up! Vivid Vases

I started by stamping the image on a scrap piece of very vanilla. I then snipped around each vase with my paper snips – not a big deal at all. Then I took the flower, star and one of the banners and stamped the vases in rose red and so saffron. Next I stamped the image on a piece of very vanilla in the black memento ink ready to colour with the blendabilities. And that’s when I realised my mistake! I don’t have rose red and so saffron blendabilities. They don’t exist. So I used daffodil delight and melon mambo and I think it worked out fine. I admit I left it on my table overnight so that I could review it in the morning before continuing! The green is the wild wasabi blendabilities, a new colour in the Occasions 2015 catalogue.

I popped up a couple of the vases using stampin’ dimensionals to add some more interest. Then I glued the very vanilla onto a very vanilla base. The envelope is lined with the backgrounds DSP in rose red.

Banner Blast

Continuing the fun from the crop weekend, I actually won something! Normally I don’t win a thing, but this time I won the big bingo prize (which was money to spend on Stampin’ Up! – what a great prize!) and then I won a door prize consisting of the Stampin’ Up! Banner Blast stamp set (a previous sale-a-bration set) and the banner punch. I haven’t really played with banners before (and one of my friends thinks that banners are a bit odd) but here was a great opportunity. It seemed appropriate to make a card with my winnings.

Stampin' Up! Banner Blast

To start with I tried to stamp the flags in a straight line but after about three tries I realised it would be easier to punch them out and then stick them on the card. There was either a banner stamped not quite straight or a smudge. It worked much better using a ruler and the punched out banners (although it’s still not perfect but you probably have to be a card maker to really notice). I used many of the stamps from the set and stamped them in perfect plum and rose red; the rose red one is popped up with stampin’ dimensionals. The sentiment comes from the A Dozen Thoughts set. I really love the typeface. It is also stamped in rose red. The very vanilla piece is glued to a rose red base and the envelope liner is also in rose red from the regals Backgrounds DSP. The Backgrounds DSP collections are incredibly useful, since you always have the perfect match.
