As I’ve mentioned before, the set Totally Trees is retiring in a few days. It’s still available as of this morning and I wanted to play with it a little more when it was fair to share it with you. I stamped the tree in versamark and heat embossed it with the gold embossing powder. Next I used one of my new watercolor pencils in old olive to colour in the leaves and then a blender pen to soften it a little. I was so struck by the beauty of the image that I simply matted it with gold foil and put that onto an old olive card base. I think I’ll play a little more with Totally Trees this afternoon!

Petals and Paisleys Specialty DSP

In case you haven’t guessed, I’m on vacation this week which ought to mean that I have extra carding time and I’m more efficient than usual. Not so. I seem to be posting later and later. My sister is visiting and although we’ve planned days of carding, today is the first day of actual doing rather than just talking!

I wanted to showcase not only a carrying over item but also one on the clearance rack. The Petals and Paisleys Specialty DSP is currently still available and is 30% off but the stamp set in the same suite, Paisleys and Posies is carrying over. There are matching framelits which are also carrying over but if you want the bundle of framelits and stamp set, you need to get it by January 3rd because the bundle pricing is going away.

Here I cut a piece of the copper embossed DSP (it’s one of the sheets which make this paper collection specialty) and amazingly had a piece of copper foil leftover to match. It required just a half inch trim off the length and it was perfect. I tried (again) to pull in a copper foil embellishment which I’d cut with the matching framelits but it was not working – this one had been on my leftovers pile for a while! Instead, I used the sentiment from Paisleys and Posies and heat embossed it in copper and then cut it out with the stitched shapes framelits – love the effect the stitching gives. Often the stitching is enough but this is such a flashy card, it needed another oval, this time of copper foil. It’s a fairly simple layout, but with all the copper shining, it’s a pretty special card.

Beautiful You and an Aquapainter

I made a number of cards using Beautiful You as soon as I got it – and in fact made a box to hold them which I’ll share later on. This card uses the regular whisper white card stock which is still my preference for stamping. It’s been pressed so that the surface is beautifully smooth and perfect for stamping. The thick whisper white is wonderful for card bases since it’s more sturdy, but it’s not as perfectly smooth for stamping. So I use both.

I used the aquapainter with a tiny amount of water (easier to control) because the whisper white won’t absorb much and did a very quick wash over the girl’s dress. The umbrella was stamped on a piece of pool party from the Subtles DSP stack and then snipped out and glued over the original stamped umbrella. With a skinny black mat as a frame and one of the sentiments on the pool party card base, I was almost done.

Since I had the Subtles DSP stack out, I cut a piece to put over the envelope flap to pull it all together. I’m planning a class based around this set in early February (the 5th) in case you’re local and interested.

Fancy Frost Specialty DSP

Well I’ve gone for all the catalogs today – the annual, the soon to be retired Holiday and the upcoming Occasions! After playing with the Hey Chick stamp set yesterday, I wanted to make another card and sometime last night I thought of the window framelits and having the chick peeking in the window. I was wondering what to do for wallpaper when I thought about texture which led me to the Fancy Frost Specialty DSP which is retiring and currently 20% off at $10.80.

I took a piece of the fancy frost paper and used the Hearth & Home thinlits to cut out the window. Then I did the same with a piece of so saffron and continued the colour by lightly using a sponge dauber onto the textured paper. Next I stamped my chick with archival basic black and then used the same two watercolour pencils as yesterday, daffodil delight and pumpkin pie but added some rich razzleberry to the ends of the chick’s hairdo.

To construct the card, I placed everything where I wanted it and then removed the window frame. I added glue to the back and then put it back in its spot. This meant that I had the chick stuck to the window frame in the right place and could just add the wallpaper around the frame. Easy. After adding this all to a rich razzleberry card base I felt that there was something missing. I’d wanted to add the sentiment but it wasn’t going to work over the texture until I remembered the classic label punch. A quick stamp and the addition of an enamel shape and it was perfect.

Hey, Chick Sale-a-bration freebie

Here’s one of the freebies from the Sale-a-bration sets and it’s really fun. It’s the one most requested in my December give-away. So, now that we’re past Christmas cards and tags, I felt it was time to pull out the new sets. But I also want to pay more attention to the product in the annual catalog since there are some awesome things there, so don’t run away expecting that I’m only going to show product that you can’t order yet!

This chick from the Hey, Chick set is so adorable, I suspect that you’re going to set the image all over the place. I stamped using the archival basic black which holds up pretty well for this and then coloured it using the new watercolour pencils (love them!) in daffodil delight and pumpkin pie using a blender pen to move the colour to hide pencil strokes and to blend the colours together. It’s really fun. I love that I don’t have to use stazon and then the different cleaner. However, I have noticed that when you use your stamp-a-ma-jig and the archival ink, it’s best to clean fairly promptly or you need the stazon cleaner to get the ink off the plastic sheet. I was going to cut this image to a smaller square and mat in various colours, but I liked the simple look here. I like to start with the basics when using a new stamp set.
