Cupcake Cutouts Framelits Dies

Well it was the House IT Desk (aka my brother) to the rescue. He got me a new card reader and I’m back in business. I decided to celebrate by finally entering another Pootles’ Colour Challenge; recently I’ve been leaving it too late in the week because I know that there’s more time and then suddenly I’ve missed the deadline! Also I wanted to make a card using the cupcake cutouts framelits dies to show why you need them if you don’t already have them. So I banned myself from using the stamp set and just used the dies. Sam’s colours for this week were rich razzleberry, sweet sugarplum, blushing bride and crumb cake. I usually forget about crumb cake so this was a great challenge for me.

Stampin' Up! Cupcake Cutouts framelits dies and Cottage Greetings and Layering Squares Framelits dies

I first cut out a number of the squiggles using the three pinks and decided that they looked very celebratory and should be bursting out joyfully. So then it was a matter of finding the right sentiment that wouldn’t take up too much space so that the squiggles could shine. I found my greeting in the Cottage Greetings set – a really happy one and stamped it in rich razzleberry on crumb cake. I cut it and the rich razzleberry mat using the layering squares framelits dies and then glued on my squiggles ensuring that they continued off the crumb cake cardbase and came together close enough so that my square would cover the ends. To continue the feeling of celebration, I added some enamel shapes in sweet sugarplum and rich razzleberry. The square is popped up on dimensionals so that the ends of the squiggles don’t create a lumpy look. I’ve now got lots of little pieces of cardstock that came out from the loops of the squiggles – I’m contemplating a shaker card with them! The cupcake cutouts framelits dies are a must have in my opinion – very versatile.

See you tomorrow,

Softly Falling for CAS C&S

I’m a little late today due to a power cut at the absolute worst time – so photography, blogging and making food for my day are now compressed into about 15 minutes in total. Eek. First things first – photography and blogging, I can (gulp) skip the nutrition or at least cut it down! It’s Thursday which means a new challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches and it’s Karen’s first sketch of the month. Of course since I’m late, my computer has decided to stop reading my SD cards. I was about to use my iPhone but my brother’s computer can read the card. Weird! Anyway, here’s this week’s card:

softly falling

And here’s the sketch which inspired it

I dry embossed a piece of so saffron with the softly falling TIEF and then used one of the old oval framelits to draw a curve on the back which I cut out with my paper snips. Then I heat embossed the sentiment from Endless Birthday Wishes in gold onto a so saffron cardbase and constructed the card. A few of the gold enamel shapes finished the celebratory card.

See you tomorrow,

Blossom Builder Punch for embossing

I wanted to showcase the Blossom Builder Punch again, but this time without the stamp set. And I decided to have a go at a technique I saw on Brian King’s blog which he calls faux embossing. Martin commented that it was a bit subtle and that the test would be whether I could photograph it!

Stampin' Up! Blossom Builder Punch and Suite Sayings

I punched out a number of the pieces and in the end decided to just use the stars and leaves on this card. I used the multipurpose tombow glue to randomly atttach stars and leaves to a piece of card. I then ran it through the big shot with my precision plate and one clear plate to squash it a little to give more of the embossed look. I think this photo shows it better:

I then attached it to a melon mambo mat and then moved onto the sentiment. This is from Suite Sayings (love this set) from the annual catalog and I’ve of course stamped in melon mambo. I cut it out using the new layering ovals framelits; I also cut a scalloped piece as a mat but it didn’t really fit with the rest of the card. Instead for a little decoration, I used the 1/8″ stitched ribbon which I just happen to have in the matching melon mambo!

I hope that I’ve shown you some of the fun that you can have with the blossom builder punch.

See you tomorrow,

Blossom Builder Punch

As promised yesterday, I took some time away from cleaning (yes, we’re still not completely vaporised chicken free!) to play with the blossom builder punch which is on sale this week.

Stampin' Up! Blossom Builder Punch and Bunch of Blossoms

I even went one further and used the metallic enamel shapes which are also 25% off through Wednesday. So, what have we got here? I started with melon mambo (a surprise, I know) and stamped the outline of the petal full strength, then the partial petal stamped off once and the full petal stamped off twice. I punched all of them out and then used my bone folder to get some curl – you know, the way that you make curling ribbon really curl with scissors. The centre is a piece of melon mambo card stock just punched out with the blossom builder punch. It’s a fun punch, there are 5 parts to it:

Next was the stalk with is stamped in old olive using the stamp that doesn’t have the watercolour look and then the sentiment. All of the stamping is from the Bunch of Blossoms set which coordinates with the blossom builder punch. Normally they are $35 as a bundle, if you take advantage of the 25% savings and buy them individually, it’s $34.50. But if you previously bought the stamp set and decided you didn’t need the punch, now is the time to get it!

To make the flower, I put a couple of mini glue dots onto the card and started building – I added another glue dot along the way. Then I glued on the little piece of melon mambo card. Here you can see how much 3D effect you can get curling the petals, so much more fun than just stamped flat on the page.

I added three of the silver metallic enamel shapes – just picking them up with my paper snips and putting them down gently until I had all three out and could get them where I wanted them before pressing them down to adhere. I used old olive for my mat and put that onto a melon mambo card base.

I’m glad that the punch is on sale this week and thus pushed me to use it. I had a lot of fun. I may come up with something else for tomorrow using it as well.

See you tomorrow,

Totally Trees for CAS Colours & Sketches

Happy Thursday which means it’s time for another challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches and it’s the beginning of a new month which means that it’s time for hostess duties to change – this month it’s Karen setting the challenges. She chose a bright trio of primary colours for us to use and for some reason that meant the Totally Trees stamp set to me!

Stampin' Up! Totally Trees and All About Everything

Here’s the banner which inspired my card:

I started by stamping the sentiment from All About Everything in real red and then added basic black trees from Totally Trees (I really love this set, it’s going to get a lot of use) to surround it. Then I grabbed the other two chosen colours and used them for the splodge – a technical term! – for each tree. I played a bit with mats before determining that island indigo on a real red card base was the most fun.

Since my stamps were inked up, I added a tree to the envelope front. Why not, right?

Stampin' Up! Totally Trees and All About Everything

Totally Trees is one of the brand new sets available in the new Holiday catalogue which is going live for customers today! If you’ve bought from me in the last year, you should already have received your catalogue – if not, just let me know and I’ll send one along. Or, if you don’t already have a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator and would like a catalogue, drop me a note and I’ll send one your way. In the meantime, click on the picture of the catalog on the left, and look at it online.

Once you’ve checked out the new catalog, I hope you’ll go to the challenge site and check out the cards by the rest of the design team and then have a go yourself. It would be great to see you in the gallery.

See you tomorrow,

Liz
