Banners and Banners for a baby card

I decided to make a selection of baby cards so that Julia has a choice. Here’s the second one and it uses both Banner Blast and Banner Banter as well as Bravo. Banner Blast is a Sale-a-bration set from last year which I won at a recent crop.

Stampin' Up! Banner Blast, Banner Banter and Bravo

I stamped banners from both the Banner Blast and Banner Banter sets in soft sky with the sentiments in island indigo; I was so happy that the banner punch works for both sets. It wouldn’t be difficult to snip them out, but the punch makes life very easy. I then took a piece of the soft sky 1/8 inch taffeta ribbon and I first attached the middle banner with a glue dot. Then working sideways and measuring the gaps between the banners (it’s one square or 0.5cm on the grid paper if you’re interested) I added the others. I then decided that the banners would be best with little pieces of stampin’ dimensionals and added little pieces to the back of each banner. Then it was a simple matter of anchoring the ribbon behind the piece of whisper white with tape and carefully pressing the banners down into place one at a time.

The sentiment is from the Bravo set and is stamped in island indigo. I lined the envelope as usual with the envelope liners (so easy to cut out 8 from a single sheet of DSP) with the Backgrounds DSP in soft sky.

See you tomorrow,

Zoo Babies for a baby card

My friend Julia told me that she needs a baby card for a coworker who has just had a boy. Of course, I don’t have any in my stash – this surprised me, I have so many cards in various boxes that I’d have thought I could cover any situation! But no. So here’s one of a few that I made, hopefully one of them will fit the bill.

Stampin' Up! Zoo Babies

I stamped the elephant from the Stampin’ Up! Zoo Babies set in marina mist on whisper white card stock and added the sentiment underneath. It’s from the same stamp set in case you were wondering. I then cut out my stamped images with one of the circles collection framelits. I stamped another elephant on whisper white and snipped around his ear and then popped this up on a little piece of stampin’ dimensionals (a good time to use a piece from the edge of the dimensionals) for some added interest.

I ran a piece of marina mist through the texture boutique in the Alphabet Press embossing folder – so far, I only seem to use this folder for baby cards, I’ll have to issue myself a challenge to use it for something else! I originally intended to mat the embossed card with something else, possibly white, but it drew attention away from the elephant. So I just mounted it on the marina mist card base.

I lined the envelope flap with the Backgrounds DSP in marina mist –  I cut a 6″ by 2.25″ piece and trimmed it with my paper snips after I glued it on.

See you tomorrow,

Sale-a-bration DSP

Sale-a-bration DSP is only available for a short time and it’s exclusive to the promotion – it won’t be turning up on the clearance rack later on. Some of us seem to collect DSP. I like to take it out of my 12 by 12 file folders and look at it, consider making a card and then put it back. So I haven’t bought any of this year’s SAB or Occasions new DSP because I am getting quite a stash! I wasn’t a demo during Sale-a-bration last year (I wasn’t even making cards) but my sister joined towards the end and had an extra Sweet Sorbet pack which she gave to me.

I tried to make a card with DSP for a friend’s birthday at the end of January but there was something missing. Caro, after viewing it on Skype, gave me an evil grin and suggested ribbon. I don’t use ribbon either – but I do like to look at it and put it back! –  so the thought of DSP and ribbon was causing her quite a lot of mirth. I played with the design some more and did in fact incorporate ribbon and DSP – I’ll show it after his birthday.  As Susan Itell says, once you have a keeper of a layout, why reinvent the wheel. Good point. So I decided to make another card with the same sort of design but in different colours, different DSP and different shapes and that was Caro’s birthday card from Tuesday which I really loved. Actually the only similarities, as you’ll see at the end of the month, is that there is DSP for the background, there’s a matted shape on the right and there’s ribbon on the left. I was so pleased with Caro’s card that I decided to make another variant.

Stampin' Up! Embellished Events

The base is crisp cantaloupe with a piece of the sweet sorbet DSP on top. Before adhering the DSP, I wrapped a piece of the crisp cantaloupe baker’s twine around the DSP, just long enough to tuck behind the DSP and be glued down with glue dots. I then used stampin’ dimensionals to ensure that the DSP wasn’t lumpy where it was over the twine. After that it was a simple matter of cutting another small piece of twine and tying a bow around the first piece of twine. I stamped the image also in crisp cantaloupe from the Stampin’ Up! Embellished Events stamp set and cut it out using the second windows frames die and matted it on a piece of crisp cantaloupe cut with the third one. I then glued the matted image to the DSP. Although it would’ve been easier to glue the image before popping up the DSP, it made it easier for the placement of the image once the twine was in place.

Now that I’ve used some DSP, I think I can let myself buy some of the new packs. And they are beautiful!

Addicted to family and CAS

The current challenge at the addictedtoCAS site is Family. Here’s the banner:

This seemed like a great time to pull out my new stamp set, Zoo Babies. I also decided to use some of the Fresh Prints DSP stack (currently a great value on the closeout list at $2.79) and took my colour choices from there.

Stampin' Up! Zoo Babies

The colours on this DSP are coastal cabana, crumb cake and whisper white (also real red but not on this piece) so I stamped the giraffes in the crumb cake and the sentiment in coastal cabana both on whisper white. I cropped the whisper white to give a decent border of the dsp which is only 1/8 inch smaller than the base of whisper white.

For some reason, I like to use the alphabet embossing folder on baby cards. Maybe I think that the alphabet will somehow sink into the baby’s mind. I’m not sure. But it is fun to dry emboss the flap of the envelope with it.

Baby Tees

Another of my colleagues at the office had a baby recently – this time a baby girl. I decided to continue not using the typical pastel pink/blue and chose crisp cantaloupe for my card.

Stampin' Up! Baby Tees on alphabet embossing

I borrowed the Alphabet Press embossing folder from my sister in my continued attempt last weekend to use all of the supplies that she’d brought from the UK. I liked the idea of having the alphabet on a baby card although I doubt that the baby will learn much from it. I ran the piece of crisp cantaloupe through the big shot and mounted it on a piece of very vanilla which in turn was mounted on the crisp cantaloupe card base. Next I took the single tee that I have from the retired Stampin’ Up! Baby Tees wheel (when I de-wheeled it, I ended up with 4 tees which fit on a block and a spare one) and stamped it in crisp cantaloupe on very vanilla. It looked a little stark so I put the edges of the card onto the crisp cantaloupe ink pad to soften the look.
