Fruit Stand DSP

The Fruit Stand DSP is amazingly, still available and it’s on sale – $8.80 which is 20% off. I’ve become completely enamored with this pattern which was uncut up until last week – I thought it was beautiful, but just too loud. But it’s not. It’s making wonderful cards.

I wanted to show how different this paper can look – I took a square (3 1/2 inches) that didn’t have any of the bright full strength watermelon wonder and it’s a totally different look. I matted it with a piece of pear pizzazz 1/8 inch larger for a skinny border and isn’t it amazing how it changes the look of the paper? I used the Vertical Greetings again as before – in pear pizzazz instead of watermelon wonder – with a card base of thick whisper white.

Here’s my card, side by side with my previous card with this paper with a similar layout and the card is totally different. It’s amazing (and fun) how a change in color totally changes everything. And this is using the same paper! Let me know which you prefer.

This Little Piggy

I’ve been wanting to share this card ever since I got the set at Onstage but I didn’t want to share something that you couldn’t get for ages. I figure half a month isn’t so bad! So here is the This Little Piggy stamp set and the two in colors which were not released early. I saw the set in the catalog and thought it was maybe a little too cute for me but after seeing a demonstration I realised that it was on the cute side, yes, but it could still be a lot of fun and even elegant!

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - This Little Piggy

This Little Piggy is stamped in archival basic black on watercolor paper and then I used my brand new powder pink ink refill and an aquapainter to colour in the piggy. A little of the other new in color, berry burst for the flower with some daffodil delight and then pear pizzazz for the grass and leaf and the piggy was all coloured in. As you’ll probably have noticed, I don’t tend to do slanted mats, but after seeing all the swap cards at Onstage, I wanted to push myself a little. So here we have a berry burst mat cut using the Layering Squares framelits dies to slant behind the watercolor paper. Once I had the layers on my powder pink card base, I decided that there was something missing – maybe a ribbon. I don’t have any pear pizzazz ribbon from the new catalog yet so I used this beautiful 3/8″ mini chevron ribbon in old olive. I think it works! It’s wonderful ribbon; it’s smooth, silky and easy to tie – it’s a shame that it only comes in old olive, bermuda bay and crushed curry. However, if you’re a ribbon person, I think you’ll be happy – there are 56 new ribbons in the upcoming catalog!

Eastern Palace Specialty DSP again

Here’s another piece of the Eastern Specialty DSP but a completely different colorway. This one is pairing Fresh Fig with the Tranquil Tide instead of Lemon Lime Twist. It’s a fairly lively print which gave me a few issues as I tried to pair it with the new Eastern Medallions Thinlits dies, but everything I tried came out too busy. So this one just has a simple banner.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Eastern Specialty DSP - Endless Birthday Wishes

The card base is very vanilla (another reason to love the Eastern Specialty DSP) with a deep border of Fresh Fig before a piece of the pretty DSP. I then took a piece of very vanilla scrap and stamped the sentiment from Endless Birthday Wishes (it’s going away, but guaranteed to be available until next Monday) in Fresh Fig. I think this may be the most used sentiment that I have in my collection! I had trimmed the scrap to be just under an inch wide so that it would easily slide into the triple banner punch. I cut a piece of fresh fig just over an inch wide and cut one end of the banner with the triple banner punch. At this point, I realised that I’d have to be really careful to accurately use the punch for the other end so I glued the two pieces together and used scissors to cut the flag in the fresh fig. It’s not as simple, but it’s safer! I popped this up with dimensionals.

Eastern Palace Specialty DSP

So after a rather busy week, I took some time this morning to play with some of my new product. I also wanted to try a third card with the same basic layout as the last two that I shared but to try to make it seem different again. A fun challenge. So I took the newly released Eastern Palace Specialty DSP which is available to you now in two bundles  (with freebies) and available a la carte as of June 1st.

And I amazed myself – and my sister – by using a predominantly lemon lime twist piece of DSP. I’d said that I wasn’t sure about this colour and could see only using it in accents, but after the surprise of the large piece of loud Fruit Stand DSP, I wondered. This is again a 3 1/2 by 4 1/4 inch piece but this time the mat (tranquil tide) has a large border. I had already cut out the tranquil tide shape using the Eastern Medallions Thinlits Dies and then cut that out with a circle and then trimmed the shape out from inside the circle (mostly because my circle wasn’t centred) and then put it to one side. This morning I realised that it would be a perfect accent for the card to hold the sentiment which is from the Bunch of Blossoms stamp set and stamped in yet more lemon lime twist.

And there you have it. Three cards with the same basic layout, all quite different. I enjoyed the challenge to myself. Now to use some of the sets that are retiring that haven’t been used enough…
