Paisley Framelits Dies

I’m feeling a little sad today; sometimes people behave in a totally unacceptable and hurtful way and your only choice is to walk away. But when you walk away, you’re always walking away FROM something that you probably liked; hence the sadness. So I wanted to focus on positives today and made this card to celebrate them – isn’t the sentiment beautiful? And I am now possibly ADDICTED to the paisley framelits dies and the matching Paisleys and Posies stamp set which can be bought together as a bundle.

I started by stamping the sentiment in versamark and sprinkled on the copper embossing powder. This meant that I had my placement down and could just fit all the paisleys and posies around. So I stamped a random assortment of the images in old olive, filling in spaces with some of the little stamps. But then I wanted to elevate one of them and match the copper by adding copper foil. I found that I could cut out a copper foil paisley shape which perfectly borders one of the stamped shapes – as long as you cut it out with its framelit and make it a touch smaller than it started. I glued this onto the copper with glue dots (it slides around otherwise) and then popped this up with dimensionals. Whilst I was cutting out the foil, I also cut out some of the other shapes and they are beautiful in foil. I’m certain I’ll be playing with these at the weekend or very soon – they won’t stay long on my “use later” pile.

This card might look familiar if you have looked at everything closely in the Holiday catalogue – I CASEd a card on page 46. If you don’t have a catalogue and would like one (and you’re in the US), let me know and I’ll pop one in the post.

How to size a squishy box

Today I want to share how easy it is to change sizes of the squishy box to suit what you want to put in it. I’ve been playing with this lately because I’ve been making more grab gifts for my customers at my classes. Here are two of them in different sizes featuring the Tin of Tags stamp set on the labels.

Stampin' up! Tin of tags

You can make the bottom of the box almost 3″ by 3″. Here’s the way to think about it – the box is made out of one piece of paper and with 4 sides. Since the maximum length of paper is 12 inches, your 4 sides need to add up to no more than 12. In fact, no more than 11.5″ because you need an edge to glue. So in the examples above, I have a box which is 2 3/4″ square ( 2 3/4 four times is 11 inches, so that works) and another which is 3 inches across the front and 2 3/4″ deep ( 3 inches twice plus 2 3/4 inches twice is 11.5 inches). The scoring is obviously driven by the size of your sides so in the first case, my 2 3/4″ square, you first cut off the spare half an inch (since the 4 sides plus half an inch for gluing equal 11.5 inches). Then you score along the long side at 2 3/4, then 2 3/4 further along which is 5.5″, then another 2 3/4″ at 8 1/4 inches and finally at 11 inches. I decided to score along the short side at 2 inches and have another 4 inches for the top of the bag. The reason for this was to get 2 bags out of a piece of 12 by 12 DSP and because what I was putting in the bags is not very tall. The tabs at the bottom of the box don’t cover the entirety of the bottom, but that’s okay.

To finish the bag, cut up on the red lines, remove the yellow and glue the box together. Pinch the tops together and you’re good to go. Either punch holes for ribbon or use a clothes pin/peg and then attach a tag using the Tin of Tags set for decoration.

I hope that you can see that it’s possible to make quite a variety of sizes changing the width and depth of the box. Just make sure that the opposite sides are the same widths and you’re good to go. Of course, it’s possible to make a bag out of more than a single sheet of paper, but that’s for another day!

I used the Tin of Tags stamp set to make my tags – love that big Surprise. Mine are using retired DSP  (such a good use for it) and the real red ribbon is retired also. The lovely striped melon mambo stitched ribbon is current though and I just got the same ribbon in bermuda bay. It’s beautiful too.

Paper Pumpkin October 2016 Alternate

Here’s my first Paper Pumpkin October 2016 Alternate. The Season of Gratitude kit is really fun – 8 shaker cards with great leaf shapes and sequins. But pushing out the leaf shapes to make the shaker cards leaves (sorry) you with corrugated leaf shapes left over. So I decided to use them on a card.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Paper Pumpkin October 2016 Alternate - Season of Gratitude

The oak leaf was stamped with the “crackle” stamp from the kit in cajun craze and then I sponged it in the same colour. The maple leaf was sponged in crushed curry and the remaining leaf (no idea what that one is!) is pumpkin pie. I stamped one of the greetings from the set in cajun craze on very vanilla and then built my pile of leaves. The oak leaf is glued to the very vanilla piece and the other two are popped up with dimensionals and it’s all on a cajun craze card base. I really like the texture created with the corrugated card and sponging and also with the crackle stamp. It’s almost like a fake kissing technique.

This card fits perfectly with the current Paper Players challenge – clean and simple with a leaf.

Paper Pumpkin October 2016 – Season of Gratitude

Today I got my Paper Pumpkin in the mail – it’s always a fun thing to see in the mail box. Here’s the Stampin’ Up! video showing how to put together the Season of Gratitude kit.

I’ve been playing with this kit and already have an alternate to share – I’ll post it tomorrow. Here’s a reminder of some of the details of the Paper Pumpkin subscription service – you subscribe to magazines, why not some crafting fun?

  • Every kit comes with an exclusive stamp set to use over and over
  • We also send at least one Classic Stampin’ Spot with every kit. The colors don’t repeat in a 12-month period, so it’s easy to build a collection of colorful ink.
  • Every new subscriber receives a clear block (size D) with their first kit to help them get started.
  • It’s an incredible value. In addition to a stamp set an ink spot(s), the kits are packed with supplies many to make awesome projects like cards, home décor, gift packaging, and more. For example, our card kits (6+ per year) always include 8 cards—at least.
  • It’s flexible. You can suspend (for a month) or cancel at anytime.
  • Since all the prep work is done, the projects take a shorter time to complete, making it the perfect on-the-go craft. Headed out of town? Grab a kit to create during some downtime. It’s all contained in one little box, so it’s easy to take anywhere.
  • It’s a surprise in your mailbox every month. Because who doesn’t love happy mail?
  • You can create the project as intended, or if you’re feeling the urge to get a little creative, head on over to our Pinterest page. We link to our subscribers’ brilliant projects every month. I also share a number of my own alternate projects.
  • Every subscriber has exclusive access to our selection of past kits. So, when a kit runs out, you can buy more—either as a full kit or a refill (without stamp set and ink).
  • Hosts can earn Stampin’ Rewards on prepaid subscriptions
  • You’ll love the kits. That’s our promise to you. If you’re not satisfied, let me know and I’ll talk to Demonstrator Support.

I hope you enjoyed the video – if you’re not already a subscriber, I urge you to give it a try. There’s no commitment beyond a single month if you don’t want there to be. What do you have to lose? Even if you don’t enjoy the kit (in which case let me know), you will have supplies to use for other projects.

Jolly Hat Builder Punch

Yes, I’ve been playing with the Jolly Hat Builder punch again. It’s rather addictive. I know that my sister Caro has even punched one out and put on a photograph! I thought that I’d try a few of the other hat stamps in Jolly Friends as an excuse for more hats… 🙂

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Jolly Hat Builder Punch - Jolly Friends - Merriest Wishes

So my moose is stamped in soft suede again. This time the hat is the stripy rather Dr Seuss looking one and the brim and bobble are in silver glimmer paper. This is when I regret not having the red glimmer paper. Yet. I popped the bobble up on a teeny piece of dimensionals for some fun.

I’m finding that the brim of the hat can go either way up – I think that the stamp set implies it’s the other way than I’ve done it here, but this works too.

The sentiment is actually the name of the set, Merriest Wishes and that’s in real red too. I used a skinny mat of soft suede to echo the moose but that meant that I had a nice wider real red border from the card base. There are a few more different hat stamps to go, but since my Paper Pumpkin arrived at the post office in the wee hours, I’m expecting it today. So there will likely be a Paper Pumpkin related post tomorrow. It looks like a fun kit – I’ve already seen the video.
