Scoop?

A lot of people commented and asked what was happening, so here’s an update. It is much improved. We stayed at a hotel on Friday and Saturday night just to be careful and we’ve been working on cleaning for the whole weekend. Well, maybe not the whole weekend. On Saturday, I had a hair cut with my friend Julia and we worked on a little project at her house. On Sunday, Martin went riding with a work colleague. But the rest of the time, we we’ve been cleaning, running the dishwasher and the laundry and sniffing things. The smell has been absorbed by fabrics so there’s a lot of laundry. Also there’s a sticky residue covering walls and any other surfaces – we’re planning on hiring a service to do a good clean and in the meantime we are cleaning out cupboards. Which haven’t been cleaned in far too long so this is actually a good thing – and we’re throwing things out and that makes me happy. We’re going to end up with a much cleaner house and that’s awesome.

Hopefully tomorrow, I’ll be sharing a card. Come back and see!

Oops

Where am I today? Well we had a culinary disaster yesterday – a pot was left on the stove all day whilst we were at work and the house was full of nasty cough-making smoke. We ended up at a hotel and today has been spent out of the house as much as possible (the veranda is such a great place to sit) with the fans going. I was lucky  – I had a scheduled hair cut. Martin decided against riding because he wanted to keep the house ventilated and divided his time between sitting on the veranda reading and cleaning and washing anything he could find. The house is doing much better but there’s a distinctly plastic smell. My cardstock seems to have survived – unlike my wallet and coffee travel mug which reek – which is great, but I haven’t had much time for carding or blogging. I hope to be back tomorrow but bear with me.

Hopefully see you tomorrow – and please ensure you turn off your stove when leaving the house,

Paper Pumpkin August 2016 Alternate

It’s time for the first Paper Pumpkin August 2016 Alternate idea. My kit arrived a couple of days ago and I decided to use the stamp set to create a card to enter Pootles’ colour challenge this week. Ever since Sam has extended the length of the challenge, I’ve missed the deadline and this week is no different. Since I share a card for the CAS Colours & Sketches on Thursday and Sam’s challenge finishes early in the morning (in the US) on Friday, the last day that I can enter is actually Wednesday. Still, even though I can’t enter (unless I’m awake at 1am), the card was inspired by Sam’s colours of mint macaron, blushing bride, sweet sugarplum and pool party.

Stampin' Up! Bold Botanicals - Paper Pumpkin August 2016 Alternate

I started by using the Bold Botanicals largest flower and leaves stamp. I first inked it up with versamark and then mint macaron and stamped the image in the corner of a piece of whisper white. After adding the clear embossing powder and heating it for a glossy finish, I repeated that three more times. I next used my aquapainter and mint macaron, blushing bride and sweet sugarplum to colour in the images – it’s so much easier when you’ve heat embossed the image.

I cut down a piece of sweet sugarplum to make a square 4 1/4″ cardbase and glued on my painted panel. To finish off the card, I used one of the sentiments from the set and stamped it in sweet sugarplum. I punched it out using a 1 3/4 inch punch and then cut out a circle using framelits to give a small border. I popped this up with dimensionals.

So that’s the first first Paper Pumpkin August 2016 Alternate – I have a few more ideas to share soon.

See you tomorrow,

Liz

Love You Lots, Baby Bear

As it’s Thursday, there’s a new challenge on the CAS Colours & Sketches challenge blog – which is why this post is later than usual. It’s timed to coincide with the challenge blog. Today it’s a colour challenge and to make this card I combined two sets, the hostess set Love you Lots and Baby Bear.

Stampin' Up! Lots of Love and Baby Bear

Here’s the colour banner which inspired my card.

I was a little worried about this combination – as I’ve mentioned before, I’m not overly fond of brown and to make it worse, when I made this card, I hadn’t yet made peace with flirty flamingo. So it was with some trepidation that I sat down to see what was going to happen. I started with a piece of watercolour paper thinking about doing a sunset with trees and started happily using my aquapainter to add sweet sugarplum and flirty flamingo. It looked really good. I’m not sure where the idea of the elephant came from – other than it was on my desk – but I decided to stamp her in chocolate chip and I loved the look. I also stamped her again on the whisper white card. I then snipped her out – cutting off her tail – and then glued my piece of watercolour paper right over the top. I added a little more sweet sugarplum in the shaded areas for contrast and a wash of more chocolate chip for some ground. The sentiment comes from the set Baby Bear and it’s also stamped in chocolate chip.

There was something missing and I looked around my table for a little something. I was actually at a day crop and didn’t have all my supplies, but I did have my new punch, the blossom builder. Perfect. I punched out a piece of flirty flamingo and put it on a foam mat. I then used the handle of my scoring tool to press down on the centre to make the edges pop up. A rhinestone in the centre and my baby elephant had her bling.

For the envelope, I stamped the elephant again and left her plain. So it coordinates but doesn’t give away everything about the card ahead of time.

I hope that you’ll pop over to the challenge blog to see what the rest of the design team have created and to have a go yourself. You don’t need a blog to enter, any public gallery will do or even Facebook.

See you tomorrow,

Liz
