Paper Pumpkin October 2015

I got home late last night, although not as late as I’d have been if Talbott hadn’t given me a ride home. The meeting that my brother was in ran really long. So after doing my small part of the dinner (my father having prepared most of it), I was ready to relax until I remembered that my Paper Pumpkin should have arrived. So I jumped up and presumably made my mail man happy by emptying the over stuffed mail box. Including this month’s special PINK box – Stampin’  Up! made a donation to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation for each active subscriber this month and the box is pink for just this month. Here’s the video showing the contents of the kit. I can’t wait to play with it.

In case you’re new to Paper Pumpkin and aren’t entirely sure of the details, here’s a reminder:

  • Each month you receive a unique, surprise kit with a project. It’s colour-coordinated and everything is cut for you
  • Each kit includes stamps, ink, paper, and accessories – everything but adhesive.
  • Each kit gives you about a 30 minute creativity escape.
  • Your Paper Pumpkin ships around the 15th of the month.
  • You need to sign up for a kit by the 10th of the month to get that month’s kit. If you sign up on the 11th of the month, your first kit will come the next month.
  • A Paper Pumpkin membership is $19.95 per month (and shipping is included!) There’s no commitment, you can cancel your monthly Paper Pumpkin at anytime. You can also skip a month if you want.
  • Just click on the Paper Pumpkin button on the left to sign up.
  • The fun of it is that you never know what you’re going to get, but there’s always a stamp set. Once you’re an active subscriber you can also buy old kits and refills where available.

See you tomorrow,

Sleigh Ride Edgelits – The Second

On Saturday I shared a card that I made using the Sleigh Ride Edgelits and mentioned that I’d cut out both Season of Cheer DSP and whisper white card stock at the same time. Once I’d decided that they weren’t going to fit in the same card, I decided to make two.

Stampin' Up! Sleigh Ride Edgelits and Softly Falling TIEF and Season of Cheer DSP

Today’s card features the bottom half of the DSP; I like how the sleigh and horse are set off by the white background. I decided to keep this one very clean without any extra mats and went searching through my stamp sets for a star that I could perhaps emboss. Nothing felt right. I suddenly remembered my (up to now) unused Softly Falling embossing folder and then the decision was easy. I embossed a piece of whisper white and allowed it to act as a mat. I then put this onto a night of navy card base. The envelope is lined with more of the Season of Cheer DSP using the Envelope liners framelits. The DSP is purposely different shades of blue in the same sheet – the whole stack has a water colour kind of look. It’s one of my favourite DSPs this year.

Here are the two cards side by side for comparison – let me know which you prefer

Lighthearted Leaves

I can’t believe that I hesitated for a minute over buying this set – I think it’s the one that I’ve used the most from this year’s annual catalogue so far. I was inspired by this week’s challenge at CAS Colours and Sketches where there’s an interesting trio of colours – and some amazing inspirational cards from the Design Team. I was also inspired by the challenge at the Paper Players where they are doing Clean and Simple with leaves. Stampin' Up! Lighthearted Leaves and Painted Petals

Here are the banners which inspired my card:

I removed some of my photopolymer stamp from their backings and stuck them to the insides of the stamp set box using the printed window sheet for positioning. This left me with a number of sheets of the plastic spare and I made a few templates with them. I punched out some squares to make a rectangle template which I used for this sponging. I started with the pumpkin pie, then tangerine tango finishing off with the real red. I then used the archival black to stamp the image from the Lighthearted Leaves set but I didn’t get a great stamp. So I inked it up again – and remembered to use my pierce mat this time – and stamped again. I wasn’t spot on but I continued with the card so that I could get it completely designed. It took quite a while to find the right sentiment for the feeling of the card and the space available – it’s from Painted Petals, a much loved set from the now retired Occasions catalogue. I interrupted the cooking going on and showed the idea to my father and brother; they liked it and looked at me as if I had 47 heads when I said I needed to redo it because the stamping wasn’t perfect. I looked again and decided that they were right and the imperfections were actually a good thing. I then mounted the piece of whisper white onto a base of the thick whisper white. I’d considered a coloured mat but it detracted from the clean lines. I added an envelope liner in a retired real red backgrounds DSP.

See you tomorrow,

Sleigh Ride

Many thanks to LeAnne for selecting my card as A Cut Above at the Paper Players this week; it’s an honour to be chosen. Challenges are so much fun – I’d never have made that card without the colour challenge.

Today’s card was also for a challenge – and I held up my blog entry yesterday trying to get the card finished so that I could enter it in the Global Design Project‘s sketch challenge. Sadly I didn’t manage to complete my card until after the challenge link was closed. However, today I finished two cards inspired by the challenge.

Stampin' Up! Jingle all the way and Season of Cheer DSP and Sleigh Ride framelits dies

I actually cut a piece of the Season of Cheer DSP and whisper white card at the same time with the Sleigh Ride Edgelits dies thinking to match up the curves. This didn’t work so well after I punched out the little pieces between the horses legs and the sleigh. Now I was left with missing blue for the background. This is really what sparked making two cards! I stamped the sentiment from Jingle all the Way in real red – I’d left just enough of the curve to match the curved sentiment. I then cut another piece of the DSP and mounted the whisper white on it. The night of navy mat is just 1/8 inch larger giving a skinny border before mounting this onto the new (to me) heavy weight whisper white card stock. It’s much more sturdy than the regular card stock.

As you can see, I used the envelope liner framelits and more of the Season of Cheer DSP to line the envelope. I do like to have them match the card.

See you tomorrow,

Pleasant Poppies

I stamped this image in versamark with the white embossing powder a while ago. When I was at the last crop, I took out my “save for later” pile and decided to use some of it.

Stampin' Up! Pleasant Poppies

I had embossed part of the image in white on night of navy and then I got stuck. When I was at the crop (and there was probably a glass of wine or margarita) I decided to trim the paper and mat it with whisper white. I then wanted to use the new colour stack – I really love the flowers pattern. I added extra layers and put this on a night of navy card base. It was almost right but missing something. Randa suggested some ribbon. I laughed. I don’t do ribbon but then I tried and it seemed to work!  I also used the same background paper for lining the envelope. Awesome stuff.

I meant to post this yesterday but my computer had other ideas. Today, it seems okay. So far!

See you tomorrow,
