Eclectic Layers

I won the stamp set that coordinates with the Eclectic Layers thinlits dies at Onstage in Amsterdam and I swapped it with my sister. It just didn’t seem to be me although I did like the look of the thinlits. Until Nicki sent me a card using it recently and then the Eclectic bundle leapt onto my next order. I’m not actually using the stamp set here, although I have plans, but just the thinlits make a beautiful card.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Eclectic Layers - Bunch of Blossoms - Naturally Eclectic DSP

The diamond shaped cut out is really striking – and I’m already planning to use it as a mask for stenciling and embossing paste. I cut a piece of Naturally Eclectic DSP to put behind it and that drove the choice of emerald envy for my leaf card stock. The flowers are cut each using 2 pieces from the Eclectic Layers in berry burst. There is a detailed die which cuts out the inside of the flower and then a framelit which cuts around the edge. This means that there is a lot of scope for layering with this set of dies.

My sentiment comes from Bunch of Blossoms which probably doesn’t come as a surprise to you! It’s an awesome sentiment and I also like how it looks. Win – Win!  I stamped it in more berry burst and cut it out with the stitched shapes framelits dies and popped it up with dimensionals.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project.

Naturally Eclectic DSP

Today’s card is showcasing one of my favorite papers in the annual catalog – it comes from the Naturally Eclectic DSP. I love the combination of lemon lime twist, tranquil tide and soft sky and all done in a watercolor-like way.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Naturally Eclectic DSP - Happy Birthday Gorgeous

I took a piece of the DSP and matted it with what I thought was tranquil tide but it’s not until I was sitting down to write this that I realise it’s actually emerald envy! But it works. I wanted the panel the width of the card and rather than relying on perfect measuring, I actually had a slightly wider piece and trimmed off the excess with the trimmer after I’d glued it down to the whisper white card base. The sentiment is from Happy Birthday Gorgeous and that really is stamped in tranquil tide – and that’s also the tranquil tide 1/2 inch finely woven ribbon making the tails of the rosette. I used my favourite stitched shapes framelits to cut out the sentiment – love the stitching. I popped the sentiment up with dimensionals to give the ribbon room.

Designer Series Paper

Stampin’ Up! has many beautiful papers that they call Designer Series Paper (and we tend to shorten to DSP). Each year they bring out new ones and there are so many gorgeous papers that it’s hard to do them all justice. So here I’m sharing some notebooks which I covered in DSP but highlighting each of the new in colors. Notepads are easy to cover – just measure the front of the pad and add a teeny bit to the length (so that you don’t bend the cover when opening it), then score where you need the cover to bend and have a couple of inches to glue down onto the back. The most fun is choosing the papers and decorations and then your basic scratch pad is all beautiful.

Here I’ve used Powder Pink with Whole Lot of Lovely DSP, Berry Burst with Color Theory DSP stack and Fresh Fig with Fresh Florals DSP stack. They each have the sentiment from Crafting Forever which I love in coordinating ink stamped on whisper white and then matted in a teeny tiny  scallop in the base cardstock color. I cut these out with the layering circles framelits dies.

Naturally Eclectic DSP

The Naturally Eclectic DSP is a wondrous mixture of colors that I’d never think to put together, but which I adore. Here we have emerald envy, lemon lime twist and soft sky with whisper white. What a fabulous combination.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Naturally Eclectic DSP - Vertical Greetings

I was really pleased with a card that I CASEd from the catalog (page 33) so I decided to use the layout again. Here’s my earlier card. I changed it up a bit but still used DSP as the background and added that to an emerald envy card base.

The top layer was a piece of whisper white which looked “right”. I held a piece of the new half inch lemon lime twist ribbon along with my happy birthday over a scrap of whisper white to figure out the width!  The length was the same as the piece of Naturally Eclectic DSP – 4 inches. The sentiment is from Vertical Greetings, stamped in emerald envy. I added a mat 1/8 inch wider to pull it all together.

Ribbon of Courage

I was challenged to CASE a card from the new catalog and wow, there’s a lot of choice! Here’s my CASE from page 33 where there’s a card using More Than Chocolate which I’ve remade using Ribbon of Courage and the Natural Eclectic DSP.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Ribbon of Courage - Naturally Eclectic DSP

I’ve switched the stamped background to use the Natural Eclectic DSP in lemon lime twist and fresh fig and then used the fabulous sentiment from Ribbon of Courage stamped in more lemon lime twist on my whisper white panel. I copied the layout from the card in the catalog and added a lemon lime twist mat and a ribbon – instead of baker’s twine, I used the 1/8 inch sheer ribbon in fresh fig. I debated between a whisper white card base and a lemon lime twist one but the latter looked more striking and exciting.

Here’s the card that I CASE-d

Page 33 cropped

I haven’t purposely CASE-d from the catalog before but there’s loads of inspiration there – I’m definitely going to do this again. I don’t think I’d have thought of adding the ribbon like this and it’s rather fun.
