Sleigh Ride Edgelits

I was making a few Hanukkah cards and I wanted to make something that didn’t use the only Happy Hanukkah stamp that I have. So out came my favourite sleigh ride edgelits which sadly are on the retiring list 🙁

Stampin' Up! Sleigh Ride Edgelits and Happy Hanukkah

I sponged a piece of very vanilla in blushing bride, up to about half way up the card and then sponged so saffron around the pink, blending it in a little. Next up was soft sky covering the rest of the card and blending into the so saffron. Then I took my spritzer and spritzed over the card twice with water. Whilst it was drying, I cut out the houses using the sleigh ride edgelits dies and very vanilla card stock. I also stamped the sentiment (from the retired Happy Hanukkah set) in soft sky on a scrap of very vanilla. I trimmed this and made a mat for it, but it overpowered the card so I just added the unmatted piece, popped up on dimensionals for interest. I then glued the very vanilla to my sunrise background (at least, I was going for a sunrise look) and put that onto a soft sky card base. I’m really pleased with the soft look that the spritzing added to the card, quite different to the effect on the night sky that I got here. I think I need to play around with other colours too.

I cut out a liner using the envelope liners thinlits to match the soft sky base of the card. Here are all the supplies (where available – the Happy Hanukkah is retired) that I used to make the card. It seems like a lot but they are all basics that once you’ve got them, you use them all the time.

See you tomorrow,

Jingle All The Way

Happy Thanksgiving to anyone who is celebrating it today although I’m sharing a Christmas card today! However I am thankful to my sister for bringing this card with her earlier this month because I then had her show me how she made it. I changed it a little by refusing to add glitter. If you want to see her version, here’s the link.

Stampin' Up! Jingle All the Way and Sleigh Ride Edgelits dies

First we made the background by sponging blushing bride onto whisper white going up about a third of the way up the card. Then we added lost lagoon and finally night of navy. We then used a water spritzer and sprayed the card a couple of times to get the starry effect. If you wanted more, you could wet your fingers and flick more water at the card, but I stopped with a couple of spritzes. We put the background aside to dry, weighed down with the wooden stamp set. Then we cut out the trees in both whisper white and night of navy. Caro had already cut the card to the appropriate heights – the night of navy is shorter than the whisper white. I love how the sentiments in Jingle all the way match with the curve of the Sleigh Ride edgelits and picked silent night this time. After that it was a matter of constructing the card. I lined the envelope using the regals designer series paper and the envelope liners framelits.

Caro has made a dozen or so of these and says that they are all different which I can easily believe. The three that Caro, Julia and I made at the crop were all different.

It’s been quite a rough year but of course there have also been a lot of things about which to be grateful and today is a good day to reflect on them. I was extremely lucky to be able to spend about 8 weeks in Spain at the beginning of the year when I was between jobs. I met some great people and learned some Spanish and had a really wonderful time. I know that a lot of people wouldn’t have had that option. I’m grateful that I found a new job and one that I really like – especially with the short commute – where the people are great and were tremendously kind when my mother died. I’m also thankful that the interviewer I feared the most (due to it being on the phone which I do not like, thankfully there was only one of those) has become a good friend of mine. I’m thankful that I can still run after dropping a sushi knife on my foot. It could have been much worse than tendon surgery. And I’m very thankful that I have found card making. Playing with ink and card and stamps (and writing about it) is tremendously satisfying. I never imagined that I was at all creative and exploring this creative side is exciting.

I’m also thankful that I finally got my online shop working along with the scrolling list of products that you’d need to create this card.

So what are you thankful for today?

See you tomorrow,

Happy Scenes

I was looking for challenges this weekend and found TGIF’s White Christmas challenge. Since I appear to be a little behind in my Christmas card production, that seems like a grand idea. I suppose that if I made some multiples, I’d be in better shape but I keep coming up with new ideas.

Stampin' Up! Happy Scenes and Sleigh Ride Edgelits and Hearth & Home Thinlits

Here’s the challenge banner that inspired my card

This card looks better in person – I took at least 4 photos and this is the best. Apparently it’s doomed to not look its best. I started off by embossing a piece of whisper white with the softly falling TIEF – I love this embossing folder. I then cut out the trees using the Sleigh Ride Edgelits dies and mossy meadow. I did contemplate adding something to look like snow on the trees but figured it would just look untidy, so left them as is. Which I’m happy about now that the card is finished – I like the mossy meadow background to the card. Although now that I’m done with the card I realize that it would have been much easier to have cut out the trees on the white and used the negative space to show the trees. Apparently I wanted to do it the hard way! Then I used one of the new in colours, tip top taupe to cut out the window using the hearth and home thinlits dies. After some fast fuse use, the window was constructed. This was when I decided that I wanted a sentiment. In white. What better than Let it snow? This is from the Happy Scenes set and I heat embossed it onto the mossy meadow card base. The envelope liner was cut using the envelope liners framelits and the retired backgrounds DSP.

I think I’ll make another of these cards and this time, I’ll make it the easy way. One less piece to put together.

See you tomorrow,

Sleigh Ride Edgelits

I really love the Sleigh Ride Edgelits and how the new precision base plate makes cutting out the intricate shapes much easier. That isn’t to say that I don’t spend some quality time with my paper piercing tool cleaning up a few wisps of card though! Clearly the inspiration for this card came from my tags that I shared on Sunday.

Stampin' Up! Sleigh Ride Edgelits and Softly Falling TIEF and Jingle all the Way

I have a feeling that I will be making quite a few of these cards this year. Trust me when I say that it’s even better in person, the gold against the green is lush. I started with a piece of ordinary whisper white which I ran through the big shot in the Softly Falling embossing folder and then cut out the trees in mossy meadow using the Sleigh Ride Edgelits. After cleaning up the edges a little and using the embossing buddy, I stamped the sentiment from Jingle All the Way in versamark. A quick sprinkle of the gold embossing powder and use of the heat tool produced what I think is the perfect sentiment. Next I glued the whisper white panel to a card base in mossy meadow and then popped the mossy meadow tree piece up on stampin’ dimensionals. I cut little fragments of dimensionals from the edge pieces to pop up the trees. The envelope is lined in last year’s Backgrounds DSP cut out using the Envelope liner framelits.

See you tomorrow,

Sleigh Ride Tags

The crop has a gift tag swap and it happened yesterday so I can reveal my tag.

I fully intended to use the awesome delicate ornament thinlits to make my tag but somehow got sidetracked!

Stampin' Up! Sleigh Ride Edgelits Dies

I cropped out two circles using the framelits in real red. Then I cut the santa and sleigh with the Sleigh Ride Edgelits Dies from the bottom of the circle and, because I was making eight, another from the top. I cut out two smaller circles from whisper white and ran one of them through the big shot using the Softly Falling TIEF. The white embossed circle is glued to the real red larger circle – I thought it looked best anchored at the bottom of the larger circle – and the santa and sleigh are popped up using stampin’ dimensionals.

On the other circle, I stamped sentiments from the Flurry of Wishes and Wondrous Wreath (retired) in real red.

I finished the tag off using the gold cording trim.

See you tomorrow,
