Blooms and Bliss DSP

Happy Wednesday – my days are all confused after the day off for Labor Day on Monday! Here’s a quick card that is easy to replicate and uses such a minimal amount of DSP that you could get 144 cards out of a single DSP pack. In this case, I’m using the Blooms and Bliss DSP – one of my favourite packs of DSP ever.

I started by using a 2 inch by 5.5 inch strip and then decided it was too wide and hacked off a bit – about a quarter of an inch. I’d cut my strip of island indigo to be 1/8 inch wider so I just put the DSP with the cardstock, got the edges the same and sliced away. This meant no measuring and only one cut and I still had my 1/16 inch border at the edges. Next I stamped the greeting which is from Endless Birthday Wishes in island indigo onto the thick white cardstock before constructing the rest of the card.

If I’d actually designed this card to use 1 3/4 inch of DSP and cut it that way to start with, I’d end up with 144 cards like this one and then I could make another 24 where the strip was just 1.5 inches wide which would work well too although would probably need a wider cardstock border. So there you go – 168 cards from one pack of DSP!

Don’t forget that it’s the last day of the Special Deals that I’ve been mentioning this week. Tomorrow we get a new set.

See you tomorrow,

Fruit Stand DSP

I really love the Fruit Stand DSP, especially the paper with the lemons and so I wanted to make it the star of my card.

I think I achieved that with this super simple and quick card. It would be a great one for mass production using a variety of DSPs. This strip of DSP is about 1 3/4 inches tall and 5 1/8 wide so that I get a very small matt at the edges. I glued it to a mat of whisper white and then stamped the sentiment from Endless Birthday Wishes in crushed curry. This was a bit of a departure for me, a “colouring outside the lines” since the DSP is supposed to pair with daffodil delight. However, this piece looked happier with crushed curry. Hence the card base is also crushed curry.

To make my envelope match, I cut another strip of the DSP at 2 1/8″ by 6 and then glued it to the envelope flap and trimmed off the excess.

See you tomorrow,

Sunshine Wishes Thinlits Dies

I’ve been intending on putting a number of the flowers cut using the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits Dies onto a card and somehow it just hasn’t happened. I assume due to the amount of product that I have to play with at the moment! But the sketch at Freshly Made Sketches this week, reminded me that I had planned to do this and determined that I’d be adding two flowers!

Here’s the banner which inspired my card:

As you can see, I took a mirror image of the sketch – just because the flowers are cut out with the curve to the right hand side. I cut out the flowers in perfect plum and wisteria wonder although I did contemplate elegant eggplant. I cut a sliver of wisteria wonder for my sentiment which comes from the amazingly versatile Endless Birthday Wishes set and stamped that in elegant eggplant. It wasn’t until the time of writing that I realised that I have in fact got three purples on the card. Next it was a matter of constructing the card (on a base of thick whisper white), so that the second flower’s stem was not showing as in the sketch.

I dry embossed the envelope flap with a retired folder, Spring Flowers. It’s handy having a fairly large (and growing!) collection of embossing folders so that I can sort of match the card.

See you tomorrow,

Tuscan Vineyard Watercolor Continued

Here’s the final card of the ones that I made at the crop using the Tuscan Vineyard set. On this one, I decided to watercolour the entire image and to use last year’s in colours.

So I started off with delightful dijon for the basket and decided that the other bottle was terracotta and thus I could use watermelon wonder. For the ground and shadow, I used tip top taupe and I also used that for the stoppers. I trimmed down my watercolor paper until it felt “right” and then cut a piece of tip top taupe 1/8 inch larger for the mat. Before committing my watercolouring to the card, I stamped the sentiment (which is from Endless Birthday Wishes) in more tip top taupe on a delightful dijon base. Once that was safely executed, I glued on the watercolouring.

For the envelope, I used the Festive TIEF to dry emboss the flap – and this time I remembered to take a photo to show you! It’s a really fun pattern.

I really enjoyed playing with Tuscan Vineyard and since I have a day of stamping planned for tomorrow, there may well be some more examples of its use in the upcoming week! I hope that you have something fun planned for the weekend and that you have a great Friday too.

Tuscan Vineyard Masculine Birthday Card

Yesterday I shared a watercoloured image from the set Tuscan Vineyard as the focal point for my card. Today I’m sharing a card showcasing one of the smaller, more overlooked images.

I stamped the corks in early espresso on very vanilla and then trimmed to scrap paper to what felt like the “right” size. Then I cut a piece of early espresso 1/8 inch larger to give me my little border. I then took a “card front” which is 1/4 inch smaller than my card base – it’s adds some interest even though it’s the same colour as the card base – and heat embossed the sentiment using versamark and gold embossing powder.  The sentiment is from the must have set, Endless Birthday Wishes. This is one of my most oft used birthday sentiments – not only is it a good birthday greeting, the size and shape of it makes it frequently fit right on the card.

Once I’d heat embossed the sentiment without mishap, it was time to add the image and layer to my card front and then add that to my very vanilla card base. Since very vanilla is a little thin, I always add an insert to the inside aswell to make it more sturdy. This is especially necessary if you have a number of layers on the front so that the card itself is a little balanced. For the envelope, I got out my Festive TIEF and dry embossed the envelope. Adds a really birthday feel, don’t you think?

Yesterday I placed a rather large order from the upcoming Holiday catalog. As a demonstrator, I get to order a month early which is a great perk. Don’t worry, I won’t go completely Christmassy quite yet! The exciting part for non-demonstrators is that now the limited time bundle is available for purchase – it’s available until the end of the month or until supplies last. So if you want it, get it soon!

Otherwise, sit back and relax and get ready for a really fun holiday catalog.
