Christmas Greetings Thinlits

I’ve posted before regarding how much I love the words thinlits and the Christmas Greetings thinlits is one of my favourite. So when Elaine, my fun secret pal, snuck a packet of stamped images onto my desk during the weekend’s crop, I challenged myself to use at least one of them and the merry was the perfect addition.

I finished this off by lining the envelope with the retired backgrounds DSP cut out with the big shot and the envelope liners framelits.

See you tomorrow,

Dove of peace

Here’s a very simple card today which would be very easy to make a stack of relatively quickly. I say relatively because it includes heat embossing – it’s hard to show that well in a photo.

I’m using the new (ish) thick whisper white card as my base which worked really well when I heat embossed and hasn’t warped at all. I used the embossing buddy to ensure that the gold embossing powder went where I wanted it to and then stamped the image in versamark. I then sprinkled on the powder, heated up the heating tool a little and then embossed. I finished the card off by cutting out the peace sentiment from the Christmas Greetings thinlits dies in gold foil. I used the fine tip glue pen to glue the word down – it’s much simpler than having to carefully dot the tombow liquid glue onto it. By the way, I decided to separate the dove from the sentiment – it’s easy to put them back together when I want them, but mostly I’m expecting to use it without.

See you tomorrow when I’m showing the tag I made for the Christmas tag swap later on today at the crop. I’ve finished one of them so far, I’d better finish the other seven this morning!

Gift Bag punch board

I’m still packaging the gifts for my secret pal – my sister has been awesome helping me whilst I’m at work. I come home and things have been packaged. Sweet! Today though I used the gift bag punch board (truth be told, Caro punched and scored the larger one) to construct some bags for the last two gifts.

I made the largest bag possible out of a regular 8.5 by 11 inch piece of card stock and it wasn’t big enough for the largest present. Still, I had something to put in it. The bag was made out of a piece of mint macaron which I stamped in gold using the October 2015 Paper Pumpkin kit, Blissful Bouquet. This is definitely my most used Paper Pumpkin kit! Whilst I constructed the bag, Caro made me a bow out of the gold foil and the bow builder punch and then cut out the word jolly with the Christmas Greetings thinlits dies, also from the foil. I added the word and the bow using a glue dot. Since I didn’t use ribbon, I closed the bag with velco dots.

The other gift bag used a piece of 12 by 12 lost lagoon and made a large bag rather than a medium. I started stamping silver stars, using the stamp from Watercolor Words and then decided to add some colour. I grabbed rich razzleberry and added a few stars. Then I finished off the cardstock with silver. I constructed the box and found that happily the gift fits. For this bag I decided to use ribbon as the closure but the rich razzleberry didn’t work so I got out the blackberry bliss which was perfect.  I wanted to add a touch of bling since this is the last gift and thought that last year’s snowflake embellishments worked perfectly. I attached it using the silver cording trim. Now all I have to do is decorate my cookie recipe and bake the cookies. Oh and go to work. Easy peasy!

See you tomorrow,

Peaceful Pines

The Paper Players challenge this week pretty much screams Christmas and even though I’m not really focused on Christmas Card making yet, I went for it anyway.

Stampin' Up! Holly Jolly Greetings and Peaceful Pines and Christmas Greetings Thinlits

Here’s the banner which inspired my card:

I started by stamping the speckles in cucumber crush onto the same coloured card using the Peaceful Pines set and then cut it out with the matching framelit. I couldn’t resist cutting out the holes using another of the framelits. I cut out another tree in red – and trimmed the edges – and layered it behind to see how it looked. I then stamped some ornaments in crushed curry on crushed curry card stock and cut them out (again with the same set of framelits) but I didn’t like how they looked on the tree. Still, I liked how they looked behind the tree. So the little ornaments were glued onto the tree’s back using the fine tip glue pen and then I attached the red tree on top of them. So, I had my tree. Then there was a fair bit of playing with different colours of cardstock and different orientations until I decided to cut out the merry with the Christmas Greetings Framelits in real red. Now I could see where I was going and I stuck down my tree using dimensionals. Rookie mistake! I tried to stamp the Christmas (from Holly Jolly Greetings) in cucumber crush using my stamp-a-ma-jig for placement and of course the raised tree meant that I stamped it wonky. After using a knife to remove my tree – and scrape off the remaining pieces of dimensionals, I started again. This time I decided on Christmas in real red and added the crushed curry stars (also from Holly Jolly Greetings) before gluing the tree back on – again with dimensionals. The fine tip glue pen made quick work of adhering the die cut merry and then all that was left was to put the very vanilla piece onto a real red cardbase. Another clean and simple card, my favourite!

Sleigh Ride Edgelits again

I had a productive weekend and made cards for a couple of challenges. I suppose it’s fairly inevitable that there will be similarities since I’m not good at putting everything away after making the first card. So this card also uses the sleigh ride edgelits. It’s for the CAS Colours & Sketches challenge.

And here’s the banner which inspired my card:

I actually already had the night of navy buildings cut out; I’d been toying with using them for my brother’s birthday card back in August and since I didn’t, they were on my pile of things to use later. I wanted to put gold foil behind the doors and windows and realised that I only needed to attach the foil enough that it didn’t move before I stuck down the night of navy piece. So there are little strips of gold foil which are a fair bit longer than necessary so that I could glue them in place far enough away from the openings such that I wouldn’t have to worry about glue showing. I then turned it over carefully and glued it down to the soft sky card base. I stamped the Christmas sentiment in night of navy – it’s from the Holly Jolly Greetings set. Then I cut out the merry from more gold foil using the Christmas Greetings Thinlits and stuck it down using the fine tip glue pen. It’s a lot easier to use this than anything I’ve tried previously.

See you tomorrow,
