Dropping in to say hi

I was away at the weekend at a crop – i.e. a weekend filled with crafting, classes, music and chat with like minded people. My sister and friend joined me and we had a blast. We even made a bunch of cards, this being one of them – the inspiration for which was this week’s challenge at CAS Colours and Sketches.

Stampin' Up! Acorny Thank You

The challenge banner is

The stamp set is Acorny Thank You which I’m having a lot of fun with. I stamped the striped nut in delightful Dijon on very vanilla and then cut them out with the new punch. Then I punched out a few nut hats in chocolate chip and blackberry bliss although I stamped off once with the blackberry bliss or it looked almost black. I cut the top off the nut hat from the very vanilla version because otherwise it was peeking out from under the stamped one. The top two acorns are glued to the very vanilla piece whereas the bottom one is popped up with dimensionals. I really like the sentiment and the typeface of the hi – I stamped this in chocolate chip. I matted this in delightful Dijon and then put it on a blackberry bliss card base. The very vanilla envelope is lined using the envelope framelits  and the retired backgrounds DSP – I need to get the new version of this DSP, it’s so useful, especially for lining envelopes.

See you tomorrow,

Thankful for Acorny Thank You

The more I use the Acorny Thank You set, the more I like it. I wanted to make a card for this week’s remix challenge at TGIF and also the Paper Players and this set was begging to be used.

Stampin' Up! Acorny Thank you

Here’s the Paper Player’s banner

The idea of the remix challenge is to take at least two of the month’s challenges and combine them. Here are the two challenges that I chose:

This is the first time that I’ve used all these cool patterns from this set – I didn’t think that they were going to fit my style, but I’m really pleased with how this card came out. I’m also thrilled that the retired itty bitty framelits fit the thankful banner AND that my sister has them and is visiting. She has her own blog, by the way – check it out.

The acorns are stamped in old olive with their tops in Pumpkin Pie on very vanilla. I am beyond thankful for the punch that cuts these out. I stamped the thankful banner in rich razzleberry and then placed it so that the curve matched the curve on the acorn. Having all the parts punched out made it easier to work on placement – but I first glued the tops onto the acorns (snipping off the very vanilla stem first) so that there were less moving parts. The central acorn is popped up with dimensionals. I mounted my very vanilla piece onto rich razzleberry and lined the envelope to match using the retired backgrounds DSP in the same colour. I really must order the new replacement stack in brights – I have it in everything else.

See you tomorrow,

Liz

Acorny Thank You

Firstly I’d like to thank the team at CAS Colours and Sketches for choosing my card last week as one of the winners. It’s definitely an honour to win since CAS is my favourite type of card.

I wasn’t going to get the Acorny Thank You set; it seemed a bit limited and why would I want acorns? But I’ve seen a few samples and decided one late night (a few glasses of wine may have been involved) to get the set and the matching punch. And I love them! They arrived yesterday and seemed perfect for the sketch challenge this week at CAS Colours & Sketches.

Stampin' Up! Acorny Thank You and Perpetual Birthday Calendar

The sketch that inspired this card is:

I looked through the (retired) colour coach for ideas and was happy to find the suggested combination of sahara sand, early espresso and my favourite pear pizzazz. I stamped a couple of images in early espresso on sahara sand and punched them out using my new punch and then made an acorn topper with another stamp and pear pizzazz. This was also punched out and then adhered to the acorn with snail. I then cut a template using one of the circle framelits (actually this was my second go, the first was too small) and used that to stamp the leaves in pear pizzazz from the Perpetual Birthday Calendar stamp set in a circle. I glued the first acorn on and then popped up the second one using stampin’ dimensionals. I cut a square piece of early espresso an 1/8 inch bigger than the sahara sand to give me a thin mat and then glued that to a pear pizzazz card base.

See you tomorrow,
