Paisley Framelits Dies

I’m feeling a little sad today; sometimes people behave in a totally unacceptable and hurtful way and your only choice is to walk away. But when you walk away, you’re always walking away FROM something that you probably liked; hence the sadness. So I wanted to focus on positives today and made this card to celebrate them – isn’t the sentiment beautiful? And I am now possibly ADDICTED to the paisley framelits dies and the matching Paisleys and Posies stamp set which can be bought together as a bundle.

I started by stamping the sentiment in versamark and sprinkled on the copper embossing powder. This meant that I had my placement down and could just fit all the paisleys and posies around. So I stamped a random assortment of the images in old olive, filling in spaces with some of the little stamps. But then I wanted to elevate one of them and match the copper by adding copper foil. I found that I could cut out a copper foil paisley shape which perfectly borders one of the stamped shapes – as long as you cut it out with its framelit and make it a touch smaller than it started. I glued this onto the copper with glue dots (it slides around otherwise) and then popped this up with dimensionals. Whilst I was cutting out the foil, I also cut out some of the other shapes and they are beautiful in foil. I’m certain I’ll be playing with these at the weekend or very soon – they won’t stay long on my “use later” pile.

This card might look familiar if you have looked at everything closely in the Holiday catalogue – I CASEd a card on page 46. If you don’t have a catalogue and would like one (and you’re in the US), let me know and I’ll pop one in the post.

Love You Lots for a couple of challenges

After a couple of busy days in New York, I was happy to be home and to have time to play with my stamps. CASology want a CUTE card this week and ATCAS want watercolour. This seemed a perfect opportunity to pull out Love You Lots and play with one of the so far uninked images.

I really do love playing in challenges where the sketch or colours are set, but sometimes it’s really nice to use a cue card and be able to add green if you feel like it, or to change the design as the card wants. It seems to depend on how your creativity is feeling. Sometimes it needs more of a kick than at other times!

So I stamped this super cute image on shimmery white card stock using the archival basic black ink. To ensure that it was really dry before I started watercolouring, I stamped the sentiment next – obviously also from Love You Lots – in rose red. Then I squished my ink pads to put ink on the lids and started colouring away. I must say that after two days at a conference, it was fabulous to sit at my table and just watercolour. SO relaxing. I used soft suede for the hedgehogs and then more rose red for the flower. To give them something to stand on, I added a swoosh of pear pizzazz. Easy, fun, relaxing and definitely cute! I then put the shimmery white onto a base of rose red.

Don’t forget that today is the last day to get the 25% savings on a selection of products. Just click here to go to my online shop and then select the World Card Making Day category at the top.

Star of Light for CAS Colours & Sketches

I’m still using the Star of Light set but today it’s not a Christmas card. I thought after 4 or 5 days of Christmas, it was time for a break!  This is the fifth Thursday in the month which means that it’s time for the dreaded double at CAS Colours & Sketches and it’s the last week for Karen as hostess for a while. I know that people fear the double – I did – but it’s a lot of fun. It also tends to lead to other designs as you get carried away either with the colours OR the sketch and then realise that you’ve wandered off at a tangent and are not using both which you must do to fulfill the challenge requirements.

Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Star of Light - Love & Affection

And here are the challenge requirements:

The left hand element looked a bit like torn paper to me which I never do; it’s just not clean enough for me so I needed an alternative. What a surprise – I picked up the Star of Light swoosh! I stamped that down the left hand of my very vanilla and then used a piece of rich razzleberry ribbon from the Holiday catalog as the stripe. This was a useful element because I love the mint macaron with the rich razzleberry but I’m not so fond of the tangerine tango with the mint macaron so the ribbon stripe is keeping them separated!

The sentiment is from Love & Affection and after I’d stamped it, I felt (unusually) that there was just a little too much white space so out came the enamel shapes in rich razzleberry to finish off the card.

I hope that you’ll head over to the challenge site to check out the rest of the design team’s creations and to have a go yourself.

See you tomorrow,

Friendly Wishes for CAS Colours & Sketches

Well, it’s Thursday again which means it’s time for another challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches. This week it’s Bev’s turn to host and it’s a sketch week.

Stampin' Up! Friendly Wishes

Here’s the banner which inspired my card:

And my best friend Julia inspired also this card and in fact is the reason that I got the Friendly Wishes set. We went out last night for a pedicure – and having just put my foot through an admittedly old sheet, it was definitely time – and as usual we had a blast. It doesn’t really matter what we do though, we always have fun. And we can talk about anything and everything and we usually do! We have each other’s back. Always. I hope that you have a friend like that.

I stamped the sentiment in archival basic black on whisper white, coloured the word using the melon mambo stampin’ write marker and cropped it down closely which gave me a 2 inch wide banner. Perfect for fitting in the triple banner punch. I then cut out another matching banner with melon mambo and cut it exactly in half using the trimmer. I stuck the melon mambo to the whisper white first – I used the grid paper to help me line up the pink so that it was even then I popped up the element with dimensionals. Something was still missing. The little silver metallic heart from the new metallic enamel shapes was the perfect finishing touch.

I hope that you’ll take a look at the challenge site and the inspiration from the rest of the team and have a go yourself. It would be great to see you in the gallery.

See you tomorrow,

Liz

Vertical Greetings for CASology

As I hoped, I spent some time yesterday crafting and took my inspiration from a number of challenges. Today’s card, using the Vertical Greetings set, is inspired by the latest challenge at CASology.

Stampin' Up! Vertical Greetings

Here’s the banner which inspired my card. It closes tomorrow, so if you want to enter, you’d better get crafting.

I decided that I wanted five of the trees and drew a pencil line to so that I could easily line up the pots. I started from the left and used the edge of my stamp-a-ma-jig for the spacing! So for the second tree, I positioned it on the line and then moved it to the right until the edge of the plastic was at the right most edge of the first tree. It worked perfectly. Then I put my emerald envy stamped trees onto a card base of the same colour. The little bow made with the thick bakers’ twine in melon mambo is the accent. I toyed with adding a sentiment, but everything seemed to be too much. So, it’s very much a clean and simple card.

See you tomorrow,

Liz
