Background Bits

When I don’t have a card in my head, I sometimes pick a stamp set at random and decide that the card will just use that. Yesterday I picked up Background Bits, a hostess set. The card didn’t turn out as I planned; in fact, the stamp I’d selected as the main focus didn’t even get inked up in the end! It’s fun seeing how cards evolve.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Background Bits - Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies

I started by washing some pear pizzazz and soft sky over a piece of watercolor paper with an aquapainter. Whilst that was drying, I stamped another of the images from Background Bits in pool party onto the pool party card base.  Next I made my “label” – the sentiment is actually in one long line, but that wasn’t what I wanted so I only inked up one word at a time so that I could place it where I wanted it. I actually had to do this twice as I smudged the first one whilst using the stitched shapes framelits dies to cut it out. The second time I waited and occupied myself in tying a bow with the beautiful pool party 3/8 inch shimmer ribbon. Finally I stamped my flower image in night of navy and then added a mat of the same color. After that, all that remained was construction.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project.

Happy Birthday Thinlits Die

How awesome is the Happy Birthday Thinlits die? I wanted to make a quick birthday card and after looking at a few stamp sets, decided to go with a DSP based card and then I remembered the Happy Birthday Thinlits Die. Perfect! It’s especially perfect because of the new product, the multipurpose adhesive sheets. They make it so simple to adhere fiddly dies – just cut out a piece of the sheet, peel off the backing paper and it sticks to your card stock. Cut out the shape that you’re after and then you just peel off the other side of the backing paper and you stick down your die cut. It’s brilliant. No excess glue anywhere.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Happy Birthday Thinlits Die - Fresh Florals DSP stack

The DSP that I chose was the Fresh Florals DSP stack in lemon lime twist. I really like how this colour pops with black and the way that the half inch wide lemon lime twist border pulls your eye into the centre. I have a feeling that night of navy would be awesome too – I’ll have to give that a try.

A glue tip for you: I used to use SNAIL all the time when I started carding and then moved onto the multipurpose liquid glue. Lately I’ve gone back to SNAIL for adhering DSP, whisper white and very vanilla layers – the liquid glue sometimes leaves visible marks where it has been spread.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project.

Half Full

I did not intend to start teasing you with sneak peeks of the new holiday catalog, but yesterday was my brother’s birthday and of course I wanted to make him a card. My newly delivered products were on the table and before I knew it, I was playing with the Half Full stamp set! It’s crazy when I still have some unused sets from the previous order to play with.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Half Full - Beautiful You

I stamped the line of wine glasses in versamark on watercolor paper and heat embossed them with gold embossing powder. Then I squeezed a cherry cobbler ink pad and used my aquapainter to use that ink for the wine. I echoed the gold with a piece of gold foil for the border and also for the Celebrate – which is from the Beautiful You set in the annual catalog. The card base is also cherry cobbler. The photo doesn’t really do it justice – it’s very hard to make the gold embossing look realistic. There are some fun Christmas sentiments included in the Half Full set which I’ll be using next month.

Carols of Christmas

A Stampin’ Up! video popped up in my email today; Brandy introducing the Carols of Christmas bundle which is being released a month early. Demonstrators were allowed to play with it last month (one of the perks of being a demonstrator) but the company decided to let this one bundle be purchased early to give you a head start on your holiday cards.

Take a look and see the versatility of this bundle. I’ve already used the dies to make a congratulations card, it’s not just for the holidays.

Add a Little Glitz

I actually planned to make a birthday card for my brother Martin since it’s his birthday tomorrow but my pre-order arrived yesterday and I was drawn in by this gorgeous sentiment from Add a Little Glitz and I just had to play with it! I stamped it in versamark and heat embossed in gold. So beautiful.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Add a Little Glitz - Year of Cheer Specialty DSP

I also couldn’t resist using the Year of Cheer Specialty DSP and matted that with gold foil before putting it onto a thick whisper white cardbase. I left a good sized border on the card base – the large number of layers seemed to demand it. The DSP is 3/4 inch smaller than the card base with the foil 1/8 inch larger than the DSP. I cut out a piece of foil from the middle of that mat to use as a border for my sentiment and popped that up with dimensionals.
