Watercolor Wishes Card Kit

I said yesterday that I’d been waiting to do a class before using the Watercolor Wishes card kit but after I pulled it out and started playing with the sentiments, I began wondering about what would be left over after making the cards. It’s odd – I have a lot of stamping stuff (just ask my kitchen table!) but I like to reuse things  – do you feel the same? Here’s my first left over card from the kit

I’m guessing that you’re wondering how I got the frame? The kit has a number of frames that are stickers but to ensure that the edges of a sticker isn’t white (I assume) the colour goes further than necessary. So I got out a pair of paper snips and quickly and easily trimmed the navy to create a skinny frame. I first stamped the sentiment in watermelon wonder on a notecard and then stuck the frame down. The ribbon isn’t from the kit and is actually white cotton ribbon that I coloured using the middle coloured blendability (retired) pen. On the way to me is the night of navy seam binding ribbon so that I can make more cards with products that are available –  just a simple bow did the trick. The wooden heart is an extra from the kit (there are quite a lot of wooden elements remaining after you make the kit up to the instructions) as is the sequin. The envelope is lined with the 2015-2017 in colours DSP stack and the medium sized envelope liner framelit.

I’m going to make up more cards with the leftovers and using minimal extra supplies to show that for $35 for the kit, $6 for 20 notecards and $7 for the seam binding ribbon and not much else, you can make 40 cards. That’s a pretty awesome value per card and shows that you don’t need to have masses of supplies. In fact, if you buy those products from me and add just one more thing to go over the $50 mark (I’d suggest an embellishment or maybe watermelon wonder ribbon) you’d hit the monthly goal and would get a thank you card and the It’s My Party enamel dots from me.

See you tomorrow,

Watercolor Wishes meets Grateful Bunch

I bought the Watercolor Wishes card kit a while back and put it to one side to wait until I put a class together to do it. One of the great things about this kit is that it’s all inclusive – as in the stamp set is included. I recently pulled out the stamp set and started playing with it. The sentiments are really pretty.

Stampin' Up! Watercolor Wishes and Grateful Bunch

I had cut this piece of DSP in mint macaron from the Pretty Petals stack a while ago when I was doing a sketch challenge but this one was put to one side. I recovered it from my “save for later” pile and decided it was time to continue. This card is actually the cause of the card that I shared yesterday because I was stamping and punching out the flowers from Grateful Bunch in both melon mambo and watercolour wonder. I love the way that both the stamp and the blossom bunch punch can create three flowers at a time. I decided that the watercolour wonder went best with the mint macaron but I didn’t quite like the overall combination of colours. Then it hit me that I had used whisper white card for the flowers and the DSP and base were very vanilla. Once I’d remade the flowers in very vanilla, I was happy. It also means that I have a few more flowers sitting on my desk asking to be used.

Once I had all the pieces ready for construction, I put the DSP in the right place and first stamped the Thanks (isn’t that a great typeface?) in watermelon wonder. Stamping completed, I glued down the DSP and then glued down 2 of my flowers, popping up the third. The very vanilla layer was then glued to a very vanilla card base. Once that was done, I added the pearls to the centres of the flowers. The envelope is lined using more of the same paper so that it coordinates.

See you tomorrow,

It’s My Party

CASology’s challenge this week is the cue word washi. Okay, I have loads of washi tape. I decided to challenge myself to use the Sale-a-bration glimmer tape in silver or gold which so far have been left untouched. I decided that the It’s My Party washi would be a good match for that.

Here’s the banner that inspired this card:

So I cut a piece to cover my whisper white layer and laid down the melon mambo washi. Then I added the silver glimmer tape below it. I confess I wondered if it was a bit TOO loud – what do you think? I figured that some people (I’m looking at you, Rebecca) would love the glitter and pressed forward. I planned to add the birthday cake from Endless Birthday Wishes since that was out for the sentiment, but it was too small. I’d just completed a card with Grateful Bunch so I tried that instead. Perfect. I stamped a number of flowers using that and melon mambo ink and punched them out. I glued the flowers on, popping up the largest with dimensionals and then added some clear Wink of Stella to the centres of the flowers.

I’m happy that the “celebrate” from Endless Birthday Wishes still works. It’s had a lot of use! Of course it’s another birthday card that isn’t going to work for a male. Oops.

See you tomorrow,

Celebrate Happy Home

Apologies for the late post today – I was all ready to start blogging this morning when the rather excessive wind outside meant that we had a power outage. After about five minutes, it came back on and I was happy, but it was a momentary restoration and then it was out again for the next couple of hours. Still, we used the time to go to the mall (and walk around and have a coffee because it doesn’t open that early) and look at stand mixers. I’ve been pushing the limits of my 4.5 quart mixer and I’m upgrading to a 6 quart. In purple. I can’t wait!! Anyway, to get back to the card making…I’m still using the Happy Home set – I really love the line drawn images and they keep making their way onto my cards. Today I set out to make a card for the sketch challenge at Pals Paper Arts and somehow Happy Home insisted on being included. Endless Birthday Wishes gets pretty insistent as well.

I inked up the stamp with my archival basic black ink, but didn’t include the clouds that are part of the image. I’d decided to use the Sweet L’il Things DSP for my clouds. First, I stamped my sentiment onto the very vanilla layer in archival basic black  and then glued my piece of DSP onto it. Next I cut three pieces of thick very vanilla baker’s twine and firmly attached them to the back of the card with fast fuse. I then popped this card up with plenty of dimensionals and added it to my very vanilla card base (otherwise the twine would make lumps in the card). After that I used the ovals collection framelits to cut out my image and that is also popped up with dimensionals – note – you want the dimensionals on the top and bottom of the oval so that they aren’t on the twine. The twine stops the middle of the oval from sagging. Here’s a side look at all that dimensional use.

I then used the same paper to line the envelope so that it coordinated. I used to make short liners so that I could get 8 out of a 12 by 12 piece, but I’m never in danger of running out of DSP and you can often see the end of the liner through the envelope. So now, I’m making full sized liners and I like the extra luxury that it gives, finishing off the handmade card perfectly.

I hope you’re having a power filled and wind free Sunday!

See you tomorrow,

A Happy Home fest

I’m really enjoying playing with the Happy Home stamp set – and I haven’t even pulled out the coordinating window die yet. I was contemplating joining two of the scenes together again but the bench and clouds doesn’t lend itself to that since the clouds would be rather out of proportion. So I decided to go super simple and make a very CAS card; black and white with just a touch of colour.

Stampin' Up! Happy Home

I used the ordinary whisper white card as usual for layers on my card. I only use the extra thick for card bases. Whilst it might be simpler to just have one type of whisper white, I stocked up a while ago so I am still working through my stash. I stamped the two images from Happy Home using the archival basic black ink and the stamp-a-ma-jig for placement. It’s very clear when using the stamp-a-ma-jig that the basic black is an enduring ink – if you don’t clean the plastic fairly quickly you end up needed the stazon cleaner to get the stamp-a-ma-jig plastic clean!

I then used an aquapainter to give a little wash of pear pizzazz to the hill. I’d decided that I wanted a large pear pizzazz border so I’d just kept trimming down the piece of whisper white until I had the size that I wanted. Then I mounted this on a piece of basic black card stock to give a narrow border and added that to a pear pizzazz card base.

The envelope is lined with the subtles DSP stack in pear pizzazz using the envelope liners framelits to cut it out.
