Joyful Nativity for a simple Christmas card

I have a stack of Christmas related stamp sets on my desk and I’ve been meaning to use this one for a while but for some reason, it’s remained uninked. The other night I finally corrected that. Rather than use Joyful Nativity in a more traditional way for its first outing, I decided to mix it up with Cozy Critters, one of the sets available only for free.

I started by embossing the large sentiment image from Joyful Nativity in gold on whisper white and then added the little ornaments from the Cozy Critters set in cherry cobbler. Since Cozy Critters is a photopolymer set, it was really easy to see through them to line up the placement. I then glued the piece of whisper white to a cherry cobbler base and I was done. I have a feeling that this is going to be one of my Christmas cards that I mass produce this year. Quick, simple and effective. I used the carried over Flurry of Wishes set for the sentiment on the inside.

Cozy Critters and Candy Cane Lane

Happy Hallowe’en! I hope you have a fun day but I’m sharing a Christmas card today! There’s an enormous beautiful present in the Cozy Critters set and it was crying out to be heat embossed. Some of the detail is a little repressed with the heat embossing but it’s still gorgeous.

So I stamped the image from Cozy Critters – a stampin’ rewards set that you can only get for free! – in versamark on a piece of real red and then used the copper embossing powder to really make this luxurious. I just used a scrap of card stock and then cut it down to where it felt right and added a border of the copper foil. But this left me with a fairly plain card with “something missing”. So I started looking through my catalogue at the DSP to find a paper with real red – and Candy Cane Lane jumped out. I cut a strip and put it behind my main image and that’s just what the card needed.

Cozy Critters for CAS Colours & Sketches

Happy Thursday and welcome to another challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches. As I mentioned last week, I have hostess duties this month and this is my first ever sketch challenge. I was a bit nervous about creating a sketch, but after a little surfing I found that it was quite fun to just let go and design a sketch. I really hope that you like what I’ve come up with and join in the fun. I designed this card on Tuesday and because I’d just got a new box of supplies they feature on my card. The Cozy Critters and matching Jolly Hat Builder punch are really fun to play with and the mini jingle bell is the fun finishing touch.

and here’s the sketch which inspired my card

I wanted to keep the background strip fairly quiet because my owl was going to be quite busy so decided on dry embossing. I love the softly falling TIEF, it’s good for snow and champagne bubbles. Then I stamped out the tree branch in old olive and (amazingly) just snipped it out whilst I was thinking about what to do next. Next was the adorable owl who is in soft suede and I coloured in his scarf with real red. Then it was obvious he needed a santa hat. Clearly it’s cold if he has a scarf on so he needs an overly large hat – I love that it’s down to his eyes and at a somewhat jaunty angle! I first punched out the hat in real red and glued that down and then added a mini jingle bell with a glue dot but something was missing. As you’ve probably noticed, I don’t do much glitter, but the hat called for a dazzling diamonds glimmer paper brim. Perfect.

There was an issue with the preorder that meant I couldn’t get the hostess set, Cozy Critters otherwise I’d have been sharing it earlier. And now that I have the Jolly Hat builder punch, I have a feeling that santa hats are going to be turning up all over the place!

Stop over to CAS Colours & Sketches to take a look at the inspiration from the rest of the Design Team and I hope to see you in the gallery.
