Stylish Stems Framelits Dies

I love the Stylish Stems Framelits Dies. They are gorgeous and allow you to create some really fun cards and they are on the retiring list and right now, they are in LOW inventory status. They are also 40% off and only $18.60 – a no brainer. Go ahead and snap them up right now! (host code A2XGZS79).

I’m also showcasing a new (to me) technique – the shaving foam technique. I took a wooden stamp case and sprayed shaving foam into it, and levelled it out somewhat with a chopstick (a plastic knife would be easier). Then I added drops of melon mambo, pumpkin pie and daffodil delight and mixed these up a little with my chopstick and then pressed a piece of whisper white into it. I scraped off the excess and then blotted it with a paper towel. I ended up with a beautiful swirly pattern on the card. I mixed up my foam again and went again. I also did the same technique with dapper denim, pear pizzazz and soft sky and produced the following. You can see the progression from right to left as the ink was more mixed and then on the fourth and fifth pieces I added extra drops, first of soft sky and then pear pizzazz. I didn’t get a picture of the one I’m using today – I loved it so much, it was cut up before I thought!

So for today’s card, I cut the flower in the base and then positioned a piece of my patterned paper behind it. Next I cut out the the outline of the small flowers twice in the patterned paper and using two of the framelits, cut out the peek through small flower and then cut it out from the card. I carefully mounted this onto my patterned pieces to produce the two small beautiful flowers. I popped these up on dimensionals. The celebrate comes from the Endless Birthday Wishes (also retiring and at just $16 a fabulously versatile set – I use it all of the time). The card base is actually watermelon wonder because after the colours were mixed, it was the perfect choice!

I hope you enjoyed today’s project and if you go to buy either of these products that you’re lucky enough to find them still in inventory! Stampin’ Up! video tutorials

Yesterday I shared a card that I made with the new Sale-a-bration glimmer paper and the Stylish Stems framelits dies. I enjoyed watching the Stampin’ Up! video tutorials on both of these products and thought that you would too! Here’s Holly showing the uses of the Stylish Stems framelits

Now that you’ve seen all the fun that can be done with the Stylish Stems, here’s Shannon showcasing the glimmer paper. One of the samples that she shows is also on the extra Sale-a-bration flyer and is clearly where I got the idea to use the glimmer paper with the Stylish Stems.

So you’re asking how do you earn the glimmer paper? Here are three suggestions, let’s call them the gold, silver and bronze kits:

GOLD KIT

Have it all! For $99 plus tax choose $125 product and from now until the end of March, you ADD 2 free stamps. Depending on stamp choice, that’s a value of $161-$251 plus tax  for $99 plus tax. This doesn’t actually earn you the glimmer paper on this order, but now you get a 20% discount whilst you’re active (at a minimum until the end of July) so earning it just got a lot cheaper!

Glimmer Paper Assortment Pack

Yesterday I played with the very glittery glimmer paper assortment pack; it’s one of the items that you can choose for free for each $50 spent (before taxes and shipping) during Sale-a-bration. This ends on March 31st, so you need to act fairly swiftly to get your hands on this. And you will want to. It’s so much fun.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Glimmer Paper Assortment Pack - Designer Tin of Cards - Stylish Stems Framelits Dies - Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies

This card was made using the Stylish Stems framelits dies which are awesome. You can cut out the flower or, as I’ve done here, cut a flower in your card and have something peek through, like the sweet sugarplum glimmer paper. It really is the perfect way to show off the glimmer paper. I also used the same dies set to cut out the leaves using the mint macaron glimmer paper.

To hide the fact that the ends of my leaves were all over the place and to finish off the card, I used a sentiment from Designer Tin of Cards which was still out after my playing for the last few days and sweet sugarplum ink. After trying a few mats, I decided to keep it simpler and cut out my sentiment using the Stitched Shapes framelits dies. I love these – they add just enough interest to the card to negate the need for a mat so they are perfect in a case like here where a mat was just too fussy.

Don’t forget that Sale-a-bration free products are now whilst supplies last. So if you want the glimmer paper assortment pack, (or any of the others), I’d advise ordering sooner rather than later.

Stylish Stems Framelits Dies

Today I’m sharing a quick clean and simple card but an effective one nonetheless. It pretty much made itself once I started playing with the Stylish Stems Framelits Dies and, as a bonus, I have a bunch of pieces ready cut out with other dies to play with too.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Stylish Stems Framelits Dies - Bunch of Blossoms

The Stylish Stems Framelits Dies contains some unusual pieces – there’s a die to cut out the flower itself but it leaves it in the card so it’s more peeking through to the next layer. I used another of the dies to cut the edges of my calypso coral flower creating the piece which I could layer. The stem and leaves together are another die and I cut it into the whisper white layer  before carefully layering the flower on top – lining up a piece of the flower to hide the top of the stem. The sentiment is from Bunch of Blossoms (I really love the mixed typefaces in these sentiments) and it’s in pear pizzazz – and stamped before I glued anything down. I then layered my whisper white panel onto a pear pizzazz card base.

I used the silicone mat to add tombow glue to the back of the flower. It’s a really easy way to add delicate die cuts. Just put a splodge of tombow onto the silicone mat and use a sponge dauber to pick up some glue. I then dab the dauber onto a clean part of the mat to take off the excess and then dab it onto the back of the die cut. When the dauber starts seeming to be a little sticky, I know that it’s time to add a little more glue. You need enough to stop the dauber sticking to the delicate die cut, but not so much that you get excess splodging  around it. Be careful not to move the die cut or you’ll likely get glue onto the front.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project. Stylish Stems for Norma

I’ve been giving out birthday cards at work for a year now; I don’t manage to make them for the entire department (I don’t even know some of the people) but I’m enjoying the joy that someone feels when they get a handmade card. Last year, someone jumped up and hugged me and said I’d made their day. It’s an enormously touching response to my hobby that I enjoy for its own sake. So here’s a card I’ve made for Norma, whose birthday is today. It’s also for the Paper Players current challenge – it’s about time I entered a challenge; when I “entered” one lately, I forgot to go to the challenge site and actually enter!

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Stylish Stems - Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits Dies

Here’s the banner which inspired my card:

I really love the Special Reason bundle which includes the stamp set and the Stylish Stems framelits dies. The dies are unusual in that it includes shapes to cut around the stamp set images and dies that create a shape that allows a paper or coloured image to show through. They are really versatile. I took a piece of watercolor paper and used the watercolor pencils to lay down color – rich razzleberry and melon mambo – using darker, more intense colors in the centre and fading outwards like a peony, creating that effect with a blender pen. I used the stylish stems framelits dies to cut out the front part but once I’d glued that to the watercolor paper, I needed to trim it. That didn’t go too well! I ended up using my carl trimmer because the stampin’ up one wavered and couldn’t make straight lines through the double thickness. I should’ve made the watercolor smaller and used dimensionals. But now that both pieces were the same, I added a border of rich razzleberry. This was then added to a whisper white card to which I’d added a sentiment from Dragonfly Dreams.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project.
