Peaceful Pines and other tags

Continuing on from yesterday, I made more tags using up “leftovers” although my father objected to the term since he felt that some of the parts were too gorgeous to be deemed leftover! And I actually did some stamping this time (apart from on the back), using Peaceful Pines.

The first tag is on a base of cherry cobbler which I punched with the scalloped tag topper punch; oddly this was on my pile, I’d been planning on making tags last week but this one didn’t get beyond the base! The always artichoke pine boughs cut out using perfect pines thinlits dies were from an attempt to put a mass of pine boughs on a card – it got too fussy and I cut back on the number, so here were the perfect number for a tag. I first used heat embossing and copper powder to add the sentiment and then used the silicone mat and sponge dauber to attach the pine boughs. I actually had to cut something out to finish it – it needed a copper foil bow (from the same set of framelits) and I used some cherry cobbler baker’s twine to attach one of the mini pinecone embellishments. In order to let this swing free, I popped up the bow with teeny tiny pieces of dimensionals. A combo of cherry cobbler and gold baker’s twine was used for the string.

Next I found a beautiful silver foil star cut out using the Starlight thinlits dies which I attached to a circle of cherry cobbler with a circle of whisper white on the back to make it possible to write on it. Well, legibly anyway. I attached the cherry cobbler baker’s twine and it looked wrong because the twine hides some of the star and it looked as if there was too much star at the bottom. So, I turned it up the other way and it’s perfect. At least I think so – let me know what you think.

The third tag is my father’s favourite. The pieces have been languishing in my leftovers pile for a while as you can see since it’s using red foil which was in last year’s catalog! Both the red foil and the gold foil back were cut using the delicate ornament thinlits dies which were carried over from last year. I sandwiched the gold baker’s twine between the layers with fuse before using the liquid glue and a sponge dauber to attach the rest.

I hope that you’ll have some fun making tags. It’s so much fun because there are no rules of sizes or shapes, you can just use up whatever you have hanging around. Your leftover pile will thank you!

In case you missed the post, I’m offering a product share of new papers and ribbons from the catalog. Details are here.

Peaceful Pines for CAS Colours & Sketches

It’s time for the first sketch challenge of the month at CAS Colours & Sketches, this one set by Jane. And it seemed a great time to make another Christmas card, this time using Peaceful Pines. I’m trying to sneak in a few Christmas cards even though it’s July so that we’ll be off to a good start for later in the year!

Stampin' Up! Peaceful Pines

Here’s the banner which inspired my card and as you can see, I’ve turned it through 180 degrees:

It’s a really fun sketch and allows you to go in pretty much any direction. Why don’t you have a go and put your work in the gallery? You don’t need a blog to enter, you can upload it to public galleries like splitcoaststamper or flickr and link it.

I started by embossing the tree with gold embossing powder (using the Peaceful Pines stamp set) and after cutting it out with the Perfect Pines framelits dies, popped it up with dimensionals on the very vanilla layer. I then stamped the sentiment, from Embellished Ornaments in real red before adhering the very vanilla piece to a real red cardstock.

Peaceful Pines

I had a couple of challenges noted down but when I came to make cards for them, amazingly, I combined them. I was planning to make a card for the CAS Colours & Sketches challenge which is to take any sketch challenge this year and make it Christmassy when I realized that the Pals colours this week were perfect for my card.

Stampin' Up! Peaceful Pines and Seasonal Frame Thinlits dies

Here’s the sketch that I used (#119) and the colours from the Pals Paper Arts challenge:

12-10 PPA279

The sun was shining so I took advantage to try to really show the gold foil off well. The word comes from the Seasonal Frame Thinlits dies which I cut out using the new precision base plate which really helps to get the word cut more cleanly and without little raised spots from the holes in the die. I stamped the present from the Peaceful Pines set in both cherry cobbler and mossy meadow as my three elements from the sketch. I did try every word die that I have over the presents to see which flowed the best – this time, I just held the dies over the card rather than cutting out every one! A mat of black set this panel off nicely before mounting on a cherry cobbler card base.

See you tomorrow,

Peaceful Pines

The Paper Players challenge this week pretty much screams Christmas and even though I’m not really focused on Christmas Card making yet, I went for it anyway.

Stampin' Up! Holly Jolly Greetings and Peaceful Pines and Christmas Greetings Thinlits

Here’s the banner which inspired my card:

I started by stamping the speckles in cucumber crush onto the same coloured card using the Peaceful Pines set and then cut it out with the matching framelit. I couldn’t resist cutting out the holes using another of the framelits. I cut out another tree in red – and trimmed the edges – and layered it behind to see how it looked. I then stamped some ornaments in crushed curry on crushed curry card stock and cut them out (again with the same set of framelits) but I didn’t like how they looked on the tree. Still, I liked how they looked behind the tree. So the little ornaments were glued onto the tree’s back using the fine tip glue pen and then I attached the red tree on top of them. So, I had my tree. Then there was a fair bit of playing with different colours of cardstock and different orientations until I decided to cut out the merry with the Christmas Greetings Framelits in real red. Now I could see where I was going and I stuck down my tree using dimensionals. Rookie mistake! I tried to stamp the Christmas (from Holly Jolly Greetings) in cucumber crush using my stamp-a-ma-jig for placement and of course the raised tree meant that I stamped it wonky. After using a knife to remove my tree – and scrape off the remaining pieces of dimensionals, I started again. This time I decided on Christmas in real red and added the crushed curry stars (also from Holly Jolly Greetings) before gluing the tree back on – again with dimensionals. The fine tip glue pen made quick work of adhering the die cut merry and then all that was left was to put the very vanilla piece onto a real red cardbase. Another clean and simple card, my favourite!

See you tomorrow,

Liz
