Party Pants meets Lighthearted Leaves

I was looking for some challenges to enter – I’ve not done many lately, I’ve been mostly focused on my cards for the Design Team at CAS Colours & Sketches. But this weekend I went looking for others and found CASology where this week it’s a cue card of DOODLE. Sounds like fun.

Stampin' Up! Party Pants and Lighthearted Leaves and Tin of Cards

Here’s the banner for the challenge:

One of my favourite recently retired sets is Lighthearted Leaves and that looks very doodled. I played around with it for a bit and then decided to pull out my so far unused Party Pants set and realised that I really like the base of my doodled leaf taking over the full stop at the end of the sentiment. I stamped both of these in the archival basic black. I added some colour with my bermuda bay Stampin’ Write marker and looked at my piece of whisper white on a bermuda bay base. I liked it, but there was something missing. I knew that I had a doodled sort of border somewhere. I started a full table scan of my stamp sets and found what I was looking for when I got to the Ts. Yes, they’re alphabetised, it’s impossible to find what you want otherwise.  Well, for me anyway! Tin of Cards has this fun border and I stamped it around the edge, masking off when necessary so that I got a good frame. I then glued my whisper white piece onto a bermuda bay card base and lined the envelope with the retired backgrounds DSP using the envelope liner framelits dies.

I was inspired by this month’s Paper Pumpkin to use bermuda bay – it apparently isn’t a colour that I use very often. I really like it, so I’m not sure why I don’t use it very much. It may appear more often in the near future. I encourage you to take a look at your cards and cardstock and pull out a colour that has been neglected. It’s quite fun.

See you tomorrow,

Lighthearted Leaves

Here’s another card that I made at the crop, I’m not sure where it came from. It just evolved.

Stampin' Up! Lighthearted Leaves

This is one of my favourite sets, Lighthearted Leaves and I decided to stamp one of the images in the archival basic black three times. I used the stamp-a-ma-jig to ensure that I had them lined up and spaced the same. Then I looked at the card and decided to mark each leaf with the white gel pen. Actually I practised first on the grid paper to be sure that I liked the look. Which I obviously did – it’s quite a fun look. I matted the piece of watermelon wonder in basic black and contemplated a sentiment. And left the white gel pen to dry whilst we came home from the crop. In the end I decided it didn’t need a sentiment and placed it on a watermelon wonder card base. This is the first time that I’ve used the white gel pen and I like how it adds interest. Just be careful and test it on scrap paper first to ensure it’s flowing and be careful of the drying time. The three days that I left it may have been excessive!

See you tomorrow,

Lighthearted leaves for Christmas

This week’s challenge at CAS Colors and Sketches is to take any of the colour challenges of the year and make it Christmassy.

Stampin' Up! Lighthearted Leaves and Mistletoe and Holly

I chose Challenge #118 which is to use all greens. Here’s the banner:

I stamped the image from Lighthearted Leaves in the archival basic black and coloured it in with a variety of markers – mossy meadow, pear pizzazz, old olive, wild wasabi and even a touch of always artichoke. I found, though, that the always artichoke was a bit close to mossy meadow and stopped using that one. I then got out the white chalk marker and added a few lines to give a softer effect. The sentiment comes from the latest Paper Pumpkin kit – Mistletoe and Holly and is stamped in mossy meadow. I put the whisper white piece straight onto a mossy meadow card base but now, looking at the card, I think that a skinny black mat may have improved the card.

There aren’t many supplies needed to make today’s card – for a change!
I think I will go and pick another colour combination and see what else I can make for this challenge.
See you tomorrow,
Liz

Lighthearted Leaves

Today’s card is for a challenged at CanYouCaseIt where you have to use neutrals, yellows and browns. A good challenge for me since brown tends to stay in the box, unused.

Stampin' Up! Lighthearted Leaves and Sweet Li'l Things DSP

Here’s the banner for the challenge:

CYCI#95

I had started playing around with the DSP from Sweet Li’l Things and hello honey and I already had the DSP glued to the cardbase. But the card refused to continue in the direction of a congratulations card (possibly, in retrospect, because I’d mistakenly grabbed crushed curry and it didn’t look right with the hello honey) so I got out lighthearted leaves. I really like this set and am disappointed that it’s retiring at the end of the year. Another good reason to use it!

I stamped it in early espresso on very vanilla (to match the DSP) and cut it out with the framelits. I then coloured it in with hello honey, crumb cake and early espresso. I played around with different colours for the sentiment (I have spares cut out now for a future project) and finally settled on early espresso. This was cut out using the greetings thinlits dies using the precision plate which makes it so much easier than having to cut several times and use wax paper. It takes just once through the big shot and the sentiment pops right out. It still needs a little cleaning of the wispy bits of card, but it’s minimal. I used the fine tip glue pen to glue the sentiment on – another great tool that makes life much easier. If you’re trying to glue something that is.

See you tomorrow,

Lighthearted Leaves sponged

I was playing with Lighthearted Leaves (again!) the other day and some sponges were out. I probably should put Lighthearted Leaves away and let another set keep grabbing my attention. Maybe!

Stampin' Up! Lighthearted Leaves

I stamped the image in my favourite archival basic black on whisper white. I love the crisp image that it gives but I’d advise getting the refill at the same time. It didn’t take long before my ink pad needed extra ink – perhaps because this is now my go to black and it gets a lot of use. Then using crushed curry, pumpkin pie and Cajun craze, I sponged colour onto the leaves which I then cut out using the matching framelits. The base is the extra thick whisper white (it’s so much better for card bases than the regular whisper white) and I stamped the sentiment from the Lighthearted Leaves set in the archival basic black first. The right hand leaf is glued to the base whereas the left hand one is popped up using stampin’ dimensionals. The card looks better in person since the extra dimension is more visible.

Welcome to my new blog follower, I’m glad you joined us.

See you tomorrow,
