Cupcake Party

This isn’t really the card I should be making seeing as I’ve put on weight so far this year with a cold, bronchitis and now my sprained ankle (improving a lot) but perhaps I should look at it as this is the only cupcake I should  be seeing! I used the sketch from CAS on Sundays again but you can only enter once so this one is just for us.

Stampin' Up! Cup Cake Party and Have a Cuppa DSP and cupcake builder punch

I’d decided that I wanted to use the Cupcake Party set and that drove the selection of the cupcake paper from Have a Cuppa DSP stack. I trimmed it down carefully ensuring that I had enough left over from the 6″ by 6″ piece to line the envelope. Perfect. Since I planned to mat the piece of whisper white on wisteria wonder before putting it on a cherry cobbler card base, I had to cut back the whisper white from my standard 5 1/4 by 4 which ensured that the DSP was absolutely right to the edge of the card stock. I then stamped the sentiment in cherry cobbler along the line of the DSP. Next I played with the Cupcake Party cupcakes and the punch until I decided on an all red cupcake. I glued the cupcake together and then popped it up with dimensionals.

I then matted the whisper white on the wisteria wonder and glued that to the cherry cobbler card base. I got the colour combination from the colour coach ignoring the addition of pink pirouette. I tried to add it in, but it just didn’t work. The envelope is lined as planned with the remainder of the Have a cuppa DSP.

I love symmetry so this is an odd card for me, but I really like this sketch.

We have just a couple of weeks left of Sale-a-bration so remember that for every $50 you spend before April 1st (before taxes and shipping) you get to select a free item. Also, if you’re thinking about becoming a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, this is the best time of year because you get $155 of product that you choose for only $99 with free shipping instead of $125 normally. How can you go wrong with this deal? If you want to sign up, just for the $155 of product, that’s fine. If you want to sign up just for the 20-25% discount, that’s fine too. If you want to build a business, that’s fine. But if you sign up, just know that there are no strings attached. You don’t have to buy anything more if you don’t want to. It’s a great deal.

See you tomorrow,

Sunburst Sayings

I was playing with the Sunburst dies the other day and cutting out a number of samples when I used the Have a Cuppa DSP. Actually I was planning on using the reverse side but it didn’t work out. This combination of colours though I really like.

Stampin' Up! Sunburst Sayings and Sunburst Thinlits Die and Have a cuppa DSP

The sunburst is larger than the pool party card base so I trimmed it after gluing the centre with the multipurpose glue. This way there is no glue on my stampin’ trimmer! Once I’d done the trimming, I attached the ends with snail. You can use any glue for this. Then I stamped the sentiment from Sunburst Sayings in bermuda bay on a scrap of pool party and punched it out with the 1 1/4 inch punch. I made a mat using bermuda bay and one of the circles collections framelits dies. I dry embossed the envelope although you can’t really see it here. But I just cannot send out a plain envelope!

Don’t forget that tomorrow is the last day to comment on Tuesday’s post to have a chance to win blog candy.

How are you doing on sending cards this year? Did you decide to join me and resolve to send more? I’m doing better than I expected, I’m up to 14 so far this month with one slated for a birthday tomorrow. It’s amazing how happy it makes people to receive a hand made card. I encourage you to give one to somebody today.

See you tomorrow,

Cupcake Party for CC&S

It’s Thursday and that means that it’s time for another challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches. And with this sketch challenge, I’ve just completed my first month as a Design Team member. It’s fun and it’s definitely going to pull me out of my comfort zone and that’s a good thing.

Stampin' Up! Cupcake Party and Helping Me Grow and Have a Cuppa DSP

Here’s the sketch which inspired my card

I was going to use vellum but that was getting too fussy so I looked for a DSP with small images that would work showing just at the corners. And found just what I needed when flicking through the Have a Cuppa DSP stack. This obviously led me to the Cupcake Party stamp set. This card has been through many iterations – it was all in wisteria wonder, then I added melon mambo before finally deciding on cherry cobbler because it made the cherry believable. I still wasn’t happy with the card last night until I realised that it was the missing border that was bothering me. The sketch doesn’t allow for matting so I used the line of dots stamp from Helping Me Grow instead. This seems to give all the white space some purpose rather than it just being there.

I punched out the cupcake liner from the Merry Moments DSP out of the annual catalog; I chose this because I needed a very small pattern for the little cake. I even punched the cherry out of the same paper managing to get it without any of the gold dots. The top of the cake is stamped in wisteria wonder and punched out also.

I hope that you’ll pop over to the challenge page and take a look at what the rest of the Design Team have produced and then have a go yourself. It’s fun to push yourself.

I also hope that you’ll take a look at my post from Tuesday and enter to win the blog candy that I’m offering to celebrate my 400th post. You have until midnight (EST) on Friday to enter. Sorry, it’s only open to US residents.
