Retiring Bundles

One of the things that happens as a catalog comes to the end of its active life is that some products that were bundled together for a 10% saving carry on to the next catalog. Normally when this happens, they are no longer bundled and the 10% instant saving is no longer available. I thought I’d point out the retiring bundles, i.e. the products that are carrying over into the upcoming catalog but will cost more from June 1st.

There are four of these in the Occasions catalog (and I’m happy that they are carrying over because I have all four!) – take a look below at the bundle along with my favourite of the cards that I’ve made with each. Just click on the picture of the bundle if you decide you need this at 10% off! Click on the picture of the card to go to the original post.

Dragonfly Dreams Tag

I decided to make a “pillow gift” for my sister of a tag and it was based on my swap card (and then the tag improved the card) using Dragonfly Dreams.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Dragonfly Dreams

I first stamped the bee from Dragonfly Dreams in versamark and heat embossed using the copper embossing powder. Next I used so saffron, calypso coral and rose red to add diagonal stripes of colour with my aquapainter which I then softened by adding more water and more so saffron. When they were dry, I cut them out with the Stitched Shapes framelits dies and then cut a larger mat using the copper foil. I realised that these weren’t going to be sturdy enough as tags on her onstage live bag and added a sturdier square – I used the card that is on the back of a DSP pack. To make that more pretty, I added another copper foil square. After that I did more watercoloring using the retired set Larger than Life to stamp a C and then heat emboss in copper. I made one for myself too.

larger than life tags

Once I’d glued everything together with fast fuse, I tried to use a hand punch but it was a bit tricky. After mentioning this to Martin, he took the tags down to the basement and used the drill press. I then used some very vanilla satin ribbon to create a pretty means of attaching the tag to a bag. At this point, I decided it would be fun to make one for each of the Aces and Diamonds who were attending. Aces and Diamonds is Eimear Carvill’s team of which my sister is a member and I’ve been adopted as an “across the pond” member. It was really fun to meet up with them in Amsterdam.

Dragonfly Dreams

Oh I’m so excited!! I’ve actually finished my swaps and also two pillow gifts for my room-mate (my sister) and I get on a plane later today. I can’t wait to meet up with my sister Caro, her upline Eimear, (who I met almost three years ago at one of her team meetings that she kindly invited me to and has since then adopted me as part of the team), Claire, (who I’ve never met but we talk on FB a lot; she is a genius at emojis), Ali and a few more of Eimear’s downline. I’m really bummed that my best friend Julia had her days off revoked and is missing out, but we’ll make sure that we get all the stuff that she would’ve got – the catalog, the freebies and so forth. Not sure how to bring the camaraderie though. But onto today’s card using Dragonfly Dreams.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Dragonfly Dreams - Bunch of Blossoms

It’s uses another piece of the watercolor paper that I showed on Sunday, this time one that’s got more of the island indigo than bermuda bay. I trimmed it down a little so that I could mat it with Bermuda Bay and then an odd thing happened. I forgot (that’s not the odd part!) that I had used island indigo and grabbed a dapper denim cardbase and I really liked how it looked. Before I glued, I realised my error and pulled out island indigo – and it just didn’t look as good. Fascinating that the addition of water and the merging of colours changed it enough that dapper denim needed to be the card base!

I then used the Bunch of Blossoms for the sentiment which is stamped in island indigo onto watercolor paper. The clear embossing allows the colour of the watercolor paper to show through and so very vanilla just doesn’t quite match. I kept the sentiment small so as not to detract from the fun background. I popped it up with dimensionals so that it didn’t seem too insignificant though!

Dragonfly Dreams

I had so much fun playing with emboss resist and watercolor paper last week, that I decided to have another go, this time with a more masculine palette. So I grabbed island indigo and bermuda bay along with the Dragonfly Dreams stamp set.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Dragonfly Dreams

I started by using the embossing buddy all over the watercolor paper and then started stamping the dragonfly in versamark. Since it’s virtually impossible to see, I sprinkled the clear embossing powder onto the paper frequently so that I could see where I’d been. I didn’t actually heat emboss until I’d finished the sheet though. Once the watercolor paper was cool, I filled an aquapainter and got part of the paper very wet and then brushed on some island indigo. I let that dry and then wet another section and brushed on bermuda bay. I continued playing with this until I was happy – adding more water, more colour wherever I wanted. It’s a load of fun and you’ve now got your own DSP to cut up and use as you choose.

This one became a full sized background for a thank you card where the sentiment was also from Dragonfly Dreams stamped on a scrap of watercolor paper and made into a banner. A bermuda bay card base and a sprinkling of the bermuda bay enamel shapes finished this off nicely.

Dragonfly Dreams bundle

Mint macaron is going to be one of the colours that I really miss when it retires at the beginning of June. It took a little while to grow on me – as most in-colours do – but now I’m hooked. Don’t forget that card stock and re-inkers of the retiring in-colours are the first to go when the retiring list is announced so it’s best to get them now, before there’s a shortage. Especially since we’re still in Sale-a-bration and just stocking up on retiring goodies would probably get you to $50 and a freebie as well! The Dragonflyl Dreams bundle is a good one to get (if you don’t already own it) since Stampin’ Up! just announced that Dragonfly Dreams is one of the sets that will be in next year’s catalog. It’s safe to assume that the thinlits will still be there but not safe to assume that they’ll still be available as a bundle for a 10% discount.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Dragonfly Dreams bundle - Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits Dies - Dragonfly Dreams

Here I took a piece of watercolor paper and did a light mint macaron wash over it and then cut it out with the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits dies. I then added the sentiment from Dragonfly Dreams onto a piece of very vanilla and cut out the same dragonflies out of the very vanilla. I added a square of the mint macaron glimmer paper (Sale-a-bration freebie) to the back of the very vanilla piece and then glued down my watercoloured dragonflies attaching them with glue dots on the bodies. I curled up the wings a little to make them seem more 3D.  Finally I poked out pieces from my diecut of the very vanilla which aren’t parts of the wings and glued them back into place.
