Eastern Palace DSP and Acorny Thank You

I know that every blog around is talking about the newly released Eastern Palace suite so I decided to be a little different. No surprises there, I know! The difference isn’t  that I’m massively late in posting, even though it may seem that way – I’m late because I’m still fighting off a nasty upper respiratory infection. So the difference to which I’m referring is that I’m highlighting just the Eastern Palace DSP at the moment along with sets that are retiring that, in my mind, you need to grab as fast as possible. Once they are gone, they are gone. The Acorny Thank You stamp set with the matching Acorny Builder punch are just such products – I didn’t think that I needed this to begin with, not seeing much call for acorns, but once I’d ordered them after a glass of wine, I found that I used them quite a lot. They are really fun – and on sale! The punch is $12.60, down from $18 and the stamp set is only $15. Yes, I’m an enabler, but I do it to myself too – that’s presumably why I have 2 orders currently in transit!

I used the punch to cut out acorns and hats from the DSP sheets that I used yesterday and then inked up the gorgeous tranquil tide for the sentiment. Since the Eastern Palace DSP has very vanilla (a major bonus in my book) I used that as the layer. I then cut off the stalks from the whole acorns (because they are fiddly to layer and I’d punched them the other way) and glued the gold and vanilla tops on. The middle one is popped up with dimensionals. The whole layer is on a card base of tranquil tide.

Here are a few of the cards that I’ve made using the Acorny Thank You stamp set and builder punch:

I have today’s and yesterday’s cards propped up on my desk next to each other and the two together make me think of the in colors that went out last year – blackberry bliss and lost lagoon. I mourned those colours but I think I like these better. Tranquil Tide is more intense, more deeply green and makes lost lagoon (which I loved) seem almost a little pale, if not insipid. And Fresh Fig is more purple – blackberry bliss was sometimes almost too dark so as to appear black. And excitingly, the two bundles that are available to customers right now, include these 2 colours plus lemon lime twist. Or, if you join the Stampin’ Up! family, one of the perks is being able to pre-order and anything on the pre-order list is available to be put into your Starter Kit.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project. Please use the Stampin’ Rewards code to get five FREE handmade cards; the current Stampin’ Rewards code is 7UYN7HEJ (if your order is over $150, don’t use the code, you get the rewards, but you still get the free cards). In addition, to celebrate the new catalog, if you spend $50 this month, I’ll send you either the clear or gold faceted gems FREE (let me know which you’d like). Acorny thank you

Today I decided to make a card using one of the sets that isn’t actually retiring because I’m grateful that it isn’t – Acorny Thank You!

Stampin' Up! Acorny Thank you and Watercolor Wishes

Although I didn’t get completely off the retired list! I used the stamps with versamark to create a fun background on mossy meadow card stock. I just put pairs of the photopolymer stamps each onto a block and stamped randomly away ensuring that some of the images were off the edges of the card to give a sense of the pattern continuing. Since I had the versamark out, I also used it for the sentiment which is again from the Watercolor Wishes set and I heat embossed using the gold embossing powder. I cut this out using the retiring ovals framelits and made a frame using gold foil and the next size up oval framelit. Construction was a simple matter of using multipurpose glue and then popping up the sentiment with dimensionals.

It didn’t make the photo, but I used my envelope liners and the retired backgrounds DSP to dress up the envelope.

I can’t believe now that I was reluctant to get the Acorny Thank you set – I couldn’t see much use for it, but it’s one of my favourite sets now. I’m sure that this will happen to me again with the new catalogue!

See you tomorrow,

Liz

Acorny Thank You with DSP

The challenge currently at Less is More is to make a CAS card with DSP. Clearly there still needs to be lots of white space to keep it CAS so this is quite an interesting challenge. Luckily I have loads of DSP leftover to choose from and the Acorny Thank You set and associated punch is perfect for using up small pieces.

I used the acorn builder punch to get a variety of acorns and their tops using the Sweet Li’l Things DSP. I also punched some out in tangelo twist and watermelon wonder cardstock. Next I glued tops onto acorns, first removing the stem since that’s harder to line up. After that I stamped the sentiment (also from the Acorny Thank you set) in watermelon wonder and then started gluing my acorns to the card. I wanted to have them overlap the top and bottom of the card and I trimmed the excess with my paper snips once the glue was dry – using the card edge as a guide.

I used up some more of my DSP by using it for the envelope liner and the retiring envelope liner framelits. I still can’t believe that the liner framelits are retiring – they are the most used framelits that I own since I refuse to leave an envelope naked. I just checked the retiring list and they are still available, so if you don’t have them, I’d advise snapping them up asap.

See you tomorrow,

Paper Pumpkin January 2016 Alternate 2

Here’s the last Valentine’s card for this year. I meant to post it yesterday of course but I’ve spent the last two days elevating my ankle as often as possible. It aches if I sit in a chair – presumably two days in the office in a row were a bit too much. It’s lucky that I can work from home.

I made this during my melon mambo phase at the crop and it was liked so much that I had to make a spare one for a fellow cropper. It’s a pretty good feeling when someone really wants one of your cards. It was also a pretty good feeling when Acorny Thank You made it to the list of continuing sets and I wanted to combine it with the Paper Pumpkin January 2016 set, Cute Conversations, to make a Valentine’s card. I carefully used the acorn builder punch to cut out an acorn as far away from the edge as possible. Then I stamped the dotty acorn hat and the sentiment and cut out both of these with the punch. I then layered the whisper white piece over a square of melon mambo cardstock, popping it up on dimensionals. The dotty hat was then added through the hole to ensure that I got it in the right place. The right hand acorn was then carefully glued only on one side and then added. I figured out the placement and then stamped the XOXO which comes from the January 2016 Paper Pumpkin kit. Then, after that was safely stamped, I glued down the square of melon mambo.

I lined the envelope with the envelope liners framelits and the retired backgrounds DSP from the brights collection.

Today’s the last day that you can be guaranteed to be able to get the three limited time freebies from the Sale-a-bration catalogue and it marks half way through what is the best sale of the year! It’s also half way through your opportunity to join Stampin’ Up! and get $155 worth of product for $99 with free shipping. There’s no risk because if you like, that can be the last time you ever buy anything. That’s a lot of free product…

See you tomorrow,

Acorny Thank You PPA275

I think that this is a first – I don’t believe that I’ve ever used two different DSPs on a card before. I struggle to use one, to be honest. But I’ve recently realized that the way to use the things that I find hard is to start the card with them rather than hoping that they will somehow fall into place on the card. I recently used an enamel dot. Only one, it is true, but it’s the first time I’ve put a dot on a card and I don’t even own any candy dots.

This card is inspired by the current challenge at Pals Paper Arts.

I’ve been playing with the Acorny Thank You set a bit lately and these colours seemed as if they’d be fun with it. But this time, I decided to use some DSP – this is the Sweet Li’l Things DSP and I intended on having a band of the tangelo twist DSP but somehow it ended up punched out with the acorn punch instead. And then the hello honey paper seemed to partner so well. I glued the tops onto the acorns and played with them across the page trying to find the look that I wanted. I ended up with the perfect place for the sentiment – it’s from the Acorny Thank You set – and tried to glue everything down without messing up the layout. I had another acorn punched out and I used that to mark where each acorn was supposed to go whilst I added glue to the back. I’ve put the acorns onto very vanilla card stock because the DSP has very vanilla in it – I’m so glad that more of the DSPs are very vanilla since I tend to choose that more than whisper white. I’ve made a skinny mat of tangelo twist before mounting this onto a blackberry bliss cardstock. The envelope is lined with some retired backgrounds DSP and using the envelope liners framelits.

I can’t believe that we’re only 7 months away from these colours retiring, they are so gorgeous, it’s going to be hard to see them go. I think I may be concentrating on them for a while – in between my Christmas cards.

See you tomorrow,

Liz
