Baby Bear with a Jolly Hat

Here’s another Christmas card using a non-Christmassy stamp set – this time, Baby Bear along with the Jolly Hat builder punch to add the Christmas to the card. Technically, the hat is a little small for the bear, but it was too adorable not to do it.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Jolly Hat builder punch - Christmas pines - Baby Bear

The bear is stamped in soft suede first for the most detailed layer and then crumb cake for the next detailed and crumb cake stamped off for the least detailed layer. I like to do it backwards so that it’s easy to see the darker layer for lining up purposes. The final piece of stamping came from Christmas Pines, a set that I love but have only recently started to use – fortunately it’s carrying over. Do you ever do that? Buy something that you love and it just sits on your desk amidst all the other sets and it gets ignored for a while?

I punched out the hat in real red and whisper white and added the festive touch to my bear! What do you think?

I just noticed that today is the deadline to guarantee Christmas delivery.

Product Share Time

With the new catalogue going live on January 4th, it’s time to talk about product shares again. This is when you get a portion of every paper or embellishment and ribbon so that it doesn’t break the bank. The idea is that you sign up for a share and once I have four people sign up, I order the product, divide it up and send it out. This way, you get to play with all the new stuff. Here’s a photo of a couple of the new ribbons – we’re not allowed to share pictures of catalog pages yet, but we can take our own photos. My favourite is the very vanilla satin ribbon, it’s so lush.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Product Share

There are 2 shares – paper and embellishments with ribbon.

Paper: This would cost $84 plus tax and postage to buy it all. For your quarter* share it’s $20 plus $6.45 postage.

*There are 10 Sending Love Glassine Sheets; you get two. I didn’t want to cut the sheets into 6 by 6.

For the 6 by 6, you get 12 sheets per stack, one per pattern.

For the rest, you get 6 pieces of 6 by 12, one of each pattern- unless it’s a specialty paper when you get a piece of 6 by 6 of both specialty papers.

Beautiful You

I made a set of cards using the will-be-released-in-3-weeks stamp set, Beautiful You back in November a week after I went to Onstage. My friend Julia was lucky enough to win it as a prize patrol gift and when we were stamping together the following week, she brought it with her. Okay, I packed her bag for her to ensure that we had it! She was focused on Christmas cards, like most November stampers, but I couldn’t resist playing with it.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Beautiful You

Not only does this set have three great images, but the sentiments are awesome and I love the fonts used too. I stamped this image in archival basic black onto watercolour paper and then used my aquapainter and the lid of my sweet sugarplum ink (see – I do have inks that aren’t red! It feels like all I’ve used lately are reds). Just a little splash of colour. I added a mat of basic black to make it pop – LOL – minor typo as I was writing this and I put that I added a moat of basic black. I guess it’s sort of a moat. Any, I used fuse to add the mat/moat which has the side effect of ensuring that the watercolour paper is perfectly flat if you’ve used loads of water (back to the moat again!). The card base is of course sweet sugarplum.

I looked in my stash of DSP that I had handy and found the perfect matching paper in Blooms & Bliss for the envelope flap. Beautfiul isn’t it?

I love this set so much that I’m going to be featuring it at two upcoming classes – January 14th and February 5th. Details coming soon.

Cookie Cutter Christmas

A group of us got together over the weekend to make the Tin of Tags project and had a great time each making 30 tags. Julia showed me some cards she’d made with the Cookie Cutter Christmas set and shared that she was having issues getting the gingerbread man to stamp properly. I brought it home with me to use it with a pierce mat – it gives cushion that photopolymer stamps don’t have – and after first stamping with versamark and then crumb cake ink, got a perfect image. I didn’t want to waste it, so here’s my gingerbread man card.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Cookie Cutter Christmas - Christmas Pines

I picked the colours from the Global Design Project forgetting that their new challenges start on Mondays so I’ve missed the deadline. Still, I’m grateful to them for the combination. The early espresso sentiment comes from Christmas Pines and of course the hat was punched out of real red with the jolly hat builder punch and set at a jaunty angle on my gingerbread man. His buttons are from the brights enamel shapes collection.

To make it so that the early espresso looks as if it belongs, I added an early espresso mat and to make the real red less of an accent, added a real red card base. I’m really pleased with this card and happy that I had to check out the stamp!

Delicate Ornament Thinlits Dies for a CAS(E)

I haven’t done any challenges in ages – I’ve been playing with whatever was to hand without needing a starting point. Sometimes the focus on a sketch or collection of colours is helpful and sometimes you don’t want to be tied down. But I do find that challenges often push you to make cards that you wouldn’t have made otherwise and if it’s a challenge that you find tricky, and you persevere, it can give you a card that you’re really proud of. So I decided it was time to pick a challenge and I found CAS(E) this Sketch has a fun sketch which allowed me to use my Delicate Ornament Thinlits Dies and a sneak peek of an upcoming set, Beautiful You. The sneak peek is a very little peek!

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Delicate Ornament Thinlits Dies - Beautiful You

I used my Delicate Ornament Thinlits Dies to cut out the gorgeous ornament in gold foil and a solid one in cherry cobbler. After putting these together using my sponge dauber and the silicone craft sheet, I took out the gold baker’s twine from the trio pack but it was a bit too insubstantial for this ornament. I tried a few other ribbons but nothing looked right, so I went back to the gold baker’s twine, cut three lengths and braided it. I used my paper piercing tool to hold the knot to my eraser and weighted that down with a punch to hold it steady whilst I braided. I tied off the ends with simple knots. Fuse was handy for securely fastening the braid and knot to the underside of the ornament and I popped the ornament up on dimensionals to hide the knot. I used fuse on the underside of the very vanilla piece and firmly pressed the braid to the fuse and then cut off the knot. The whole very vanilla layer was then added to a cherry cobbler card base.

I bet you’re wondering about the Beautiful You sneak peek? It’s just the sentiment. There are 6 or 7 other sentiments in this set as well as some fabulous images – I’m guessing that it’s going to be be extremely popular.
