Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to all and I hope you have a happy peaceful day whether you’re celebrating or not. I decided to look at pinterest and showcase the 6 Christmas cards which have been pinned the most this year. I’m very grateful to you all for reading my blog and pinning my cards. Starting from the least number of pins and working upwards, we have a recent Paper Pumpkin card – just click on the photos to go to the original posts.

So there you have it – the top six Christmas cards as chosen by pinterest. A couple of them got a boost because people seem to look for Paper Pumpkin alternates so I’m quite intrigued that my two top cards are both Merry Medley.

Beautiful You with Watercolor Pencils

Here’s another version of the image that I shared from Beautiful You recently, this time coloured with the new watercolour pencils that are coming out in the new catalog (along with Beautiful You).

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Beautiful You

I first stamped the image using the archival basic black and then the sentiment also from the same set in pacific point. Once that was all completed without mishap, I got out the pencils. I coloured using rich razzleberry, pacific point and old olive and then added a tiny hint of calypso coral to her skin. I then used a blender pen and this was the really exciting part – all the lines that were showing from the colouring just blended away as if by magic! I think that this set and the pencils are going to be a big hit – if you get the wood mount, you already earn a free Sale-a-bration item. If you go clear as I did, you’re only $6 short of the free item. A set of blender pens for $10 might be just the item you need!

Merriest Wishes for Peter

It’s hard to know what to get your boss as a little gift – especially one who is so fitness focused that means he goes to the gym five days per week and although he keeps a candy bowl on his desk, almost never eats it! I’m trying to emulate him – on the lack of candy eating that is. The gym, not so much although I’m going to try to start running again soon. There. It’s out there in writing so I’ll have to push myself! I decided on a bottle of wine which of course needs a tag, so I whipped one up this morning. I’d lent out my Merriest Wishes set and got it back a day or two back which is why I was so last minute with my bottle topper.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Merriest Wishes - Merry Tags Framelits Dies - Softly Falling TIEF

I cut a piece of whisper white (thinking about it now, it should’ve been the thick whisper white) at 7 1/2 inches by 2 1/2 inches. Odd size you’re thinking? Well yes. I started with 8 by 3 but it drowned my little tag so I cut it down! I cut a hole in the top with a circle framelit (measured first over the bottle for size) and then dry embossed the bottom part with the Softly Falling TIEF.

Next to the fun details. I cut out the tag with the scene from Merry Tags Framelits Dies three times – in whisper white, soft suede and always artichoke and then cut out the deer and trees and glued them on top of the whisper white using my silicone mat and sponge dauber to apply the glue. Next I cut a full sized tab from soft sky and glued my pieced tag onto that. The sentiment is of course from the Merriest Wishes set.

I wonder if subconsciously I selected the colours to match the bottle that I was using for sizing and as a prop. Peter’s not getting this one – it’s only half full, the other half being consumed last night. The Oyster Bay bottle has a blue top that isn’t far off Soft Sky. I will be laughing at myself if I end up selecting a bottle by colour rather than contents!

In case you’re wondering at the lack of Paper Pumpkin alternate ideas, my kit hasn’t come yet. The tracking says that as of a week ago, the Post Office has been sent notification but not the item. Hopefully soon.

Merry Tags Framelits Dies

I know that the Merry Tags Framelits Dies are retiring but there are a must have and also are half price (and still available this morning). I wanted to make my team a little something for the holidays and then of course I needed packaging. My sister Caro raves about the Rocky Road recipe that she found and says that people just inhale it so I decided to give it a go. I made the additions that Caro suggested – so instead of just graham crackers (substituted for the British Rich Tea biscuits) and mini marshmallows coated in the chocolate mixture, I added macadamia nuts and craisins. Honestly I was concerned half way through the process, making something as a gift that I hadn’t tasted and especially making a double quantity. But pieces broke and my father, brother and myself were rather impressed with the results. In fact Martin thought that quadrupling the recipe might have been a better idea…

Packaging was fairly simple. After waiting 2 hours for the rocky road to set up, I cut it into squares and packaged them in food safe bags. And  made some tags. These are quick and easy if you don’t count poking out the pieces of the tree with a paper piercing tool – my die brush broke and I need a replacement. I must call demo support one of these days! Some of the labels fronts feature emerald envy and some are silver foil with the plain label for the back cut out using gold foil or emerald envy. I found that glue dots or fuse were easiest for attaching the emerald envy onto the gold foil – using liquid glue, the papers slid around. I used the matching gold or silver satin ribbon (which is really luxurious) and a little emerald envy baker’s twine to attach the labels. Hopefully they are a hit. Here’s a closer look at all the chocolaty goodness:

Jolly Hat Builder Punch

Need a few extra quick Christmas cards? Look no further than your jolly hat builder punch. In fact, whilst making this card, I cut out a few other pieces and so have the makings of another card. Or a tag.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Jolly Hat Builder Punch - Oh What Fun

I used the jolly hat builder punch on red, silver (and gold actually) glimmer paper before deciding on a red hat with silver trim. Whilst I used the liquid glue for the main part of the hat, I used fuse to attach the trim – liquid glue doesn’t stick well to glimmer paper and tends to slide around. Fuse holds everything VERY firmly!

For the simple sentiment, it’s real red ink and Oh, What Fun – a set full of greetings made for tags but perfectly at home on cards too. I cut down my layer a quarter inch to enable a thin mat of real red to echo the redness of the rest of the card, popped that onto a thick whisper white card base and I was done. These could be mass produced very easily – I may be doing that later on today since my brother needs cards for people at work. I can multi-task – make cards whilst cooking dinner. We’re eating late these days because he’s working late. It’s never a problem to make cards is it?! And glitter is so Christmassy – it’s currently over my grid paper and punch. In fact, I’m probably wearing it!
