Blog Candy for my 400th post

I’m as stunned as you. I had no idea that I’d get to 400 posts, mostly daily, and still be going strong. But making cards is so much fun. Finding that I do actually have a creative side is quite a surprise. I bet you have one too. Even if you didn’t think that it existed. And it’s so much fun to let it out. Today especially since there’s blog candy on offer!

Stampin' Up! Watercolor Words

The last time that my sister was over, she introduced me to post it tape. Very cool stuff, and it sat in my bag. But yesterday when I was making cards, I decided to actually use it. Martin’s comment is that this is very Japanese. I don’t know. It’s definitely clean and simple. I put down some post it tape at random (although ensured that it was square with the edges) and then stamped the heart from Watercolor Words in real red at different angles on whisper white card. Then I stamped the sentiment (from the same stamp set) in real red also. I then mounted this on a real red card base. The envelope is embossed with the happy hearts TIEF to coordinate.

As I mentioned, this is my 400th post (wow!). So to celebrate, here’s some blog candy that one lucky commenter will win.

Stampin' Up! Lotus Blossom and Heappy Heart TIEF and Jewels basic rhinestone and sequin trim

That’s an enormously popular stamp set from last year’s Sale-a-bration, Lotus Blossom, bermuda bay sequin trim (use it as a ribbon or take off single sequins) and the current happy heart TIEF and jewels basic rhinestones. A fun package. All you have to do for a chance to win is to comment and tell me what is your favourite item in the Occasionals catalogue (which includes the Sale-a-bration brochure). Since it’s my four hundredth post, I’ll give you four days. So comment by midnight Friday (EST). Sorry, you have to have a US shipping address to win.

See you tomorrow,

January 2016 Paper Pumpkin Alternative

It’s Paper Pumpkin time again – my kit for this month arrived last week. It’s focused on Valentine’s Day and there’s a fun stamp set included – Cute Conversations.Of course I decided to reuse the stamp set to make a card. Just one so far…

Stampin' Up! Paper Pumpkin Cute Conversations

Isn’t this fun? I made the DSP by stamping the XOXO stamp in melon mambo on whisper white. I started in the centre and just worked my way outwards stamping in different directions until I’d filled the card. I then inked up another of the stamp set’s sentiments in melon mambo and stamped on a scrap of whisper white. I cut this out with the retired hearts collection thinlits dies and then cut the next size up in melon mambo to create the border. You could use the sweetheart punch for this but it’s only one size and you’d not have the mat.  I guess I’d better hang on to my hearts collection dies.

I glued the hearts together with the multipurpose glue and then popped that up with dimensionals. I’ll make another card with this set using all current product soon.

I should remind you that during Sale-a-bration the three month prepaid subscription of Paper Pumpkin is on sale for $55. This is not only great value for three of the monthly kits, but if you buy this, you also get to choose an item for free from the Sale-a-bration catalogue. What an awesome deal! Just click on the Paper Pumpkin button over on the left to get started or on the scrolling store below.

See you tomorrow,

What I love – CC&S

It’s time for another challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches. This time a sketch. If you follow my blog, you know that I find these challenging so it was with trepidation that I started thinking about this, the first sketch that I’m doing as a Design Team member. It has morphed quite considerably from where I started!

Stampin' Up! What I Love and Happy Heart TIEF

and here’s the sketch which inspired this card

I started off with a horizontal card and a flower instead of a heart although even then I had an embossed panel with the edges of the cardbase showing. I had been wondering about a St. Valentine’s day card for my class next week when I don’t have the obvious new St. Valentine’s set and I think that’s what led me to the Happy Heart TIEF. Since this is an older TIEF, it’s not a 6 by 6 inch one and thus it forces you to make a vertical card if the whole panel is going to be embossed. The original had been a thank you card, but I suddenly remembered the lovely sentiment from the What I Love Sale-a-bration stamp set which I’ve stamped in real red. Then of course, there had to be a real red heart. I got out all three of my punches that have hearts. The hearts border punch was too small, the sweetheart punch was too big but the itty bitty accents punch was just right. 🙂

And it was easy to decide what needed to go on the inside of the card:

In this photo you can also see that I popped up the oval with stampin’ dimensionals – not only do I like the effect but it’s easier to fix it to a textured piece of card. I finished the card off by embossing the centre of the envelope flap with the same folder for coordination.

I hope that you’ll pop over to CAS Colours & Sketches and check out the rest of the inspiration provided by the Design Team as well as making your own card for this sketch.

See you tomorrow,

Watercolor Words

My sister arrived on Friday bringing with her a stash of stamp sets that I don’t own. The kitchen table is covered in more stamping stuff than usual – and that’s saying something! I can’t believe that I glossed over the Watercolor Words set in the catalogue, it’s a really fun set.

Stampin' Up! Watercolor Words

I first tried this as a horizontal card and used the happy birthday sentiment from this set, but it was just too busy for my planned clean and simple card. So I switched orientation and went for a smaller sentiment. I stamped everything in melon mambo on whisper white. I added a slim mat of melon mambo before mounting this onto the extra thick whisper white card stock. I found that I had a melon mambo envelope liner already cut using the envelope liner framelits and the bigshot. This is the retired DSP – the new patterns are even better than the old ones.

I must go and look through the other sets that she brought with her!

See you tomorrow,

Yippee Skippee Valentine

I really liked a Christmas card that my sister and I made at the fall crop last November. I decided to take the same layout and change things up a bit to create today’s card. It’s a simple card, but effective.

Stampin' Up! Yippee Skippee

After using the embossing buddy (which I need to brush off the card before photographing it!) I stamped the upper sentiment in versamark on real red and sprinkled on the white embossing powder. It’s from the Yippee Skippee set. After heat embossing this, I stamped the sentiment from Good Greetings, also in versamark with white embossing powder. This top layer was a 4.75″ by 3.5″ piece of real red. The next layer is a piece of whisper white a quarter inch larger in both dimensions. This is all glued onto a base of real red in the usual half size of card stock which is a half inch bigger than the white and thus gives more interesting layers.
