Paper Pumpkin November 2016 Alternate 2

So here’s Paper Pumpkin November 2016 Alternate 2. And it’s using the die cut trees which were left over from my first alternate, so two cards with the supplies for one – how’s that for frugal?!

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Paper Pumpkin November 2016 Alternate 2 - Wonderful Winterland

I was having an always artichoke day so that’s what I used for the trees. For the sky, I sponged blushing bride, marina mist and night of navy starting in the middle and working outwards in a circle. I then spritzed it with water to give a more dramatic effect and left it to dry. Next I cut out my oval with the largest of the stitched shapes framelits and used the sentiment from the Wonderful Winterland kit. This was when I realised that my sky piece needed cutting down to be slightly smaller than the front piece and with a small mat of night of navy behind it before adding to the thick whisper white card base, I can tell you that this is a sturdy card! I added a little oval border of dazzling diamonds glimmer paper – apparently I knew that it was going to snow today and that this would be completely apposite.

I used my Holly TIEF to decorate the envelope flap.

Pretty Pines Thinlits Dies

As I had the Pretty Pines Thinlits Dies out for yesterday’s card, I decided to make another using a similar design – images in the top left corner and sentiment in the bottom right – to show how different cards can be with a little tweaking.I fully intended to used the pretty pines thinlits dies to cut out the branches again – and I did cut them out, but as I piled more and more pieces of cardstock on top of each other, it was getting a little out of hand.

I really wanted a gold frame around the very vanilla and after abandoning the idea of a line of gold wink of stella (too irregular) I cut a piece of gold foil. I left a deep frame of the always artichoke and I really like the effect. Next I heat embossed the sentiment with gold embossing powder and then assembled the layers. It was only after gluing the layers together that I realised how chunky the card was going to be with die cuts so I had to stamp my pine branches onto the card front – not my preferred order of operations. Fortunately it worked out fine and next was to attach my soft suede pine cones. I know that technically they would look the same, but I liked the variety. The second pine cone was popped up with dimensionals. This left a dilemma – the gold foil bow needed to be slightly on the pine cone but also off. So I dabbed tombow glue on part of the back with a sponge dauber and then cut a teeny tiny piece of dimensional to go under a little piece of the bow for support.

Now I’ve got three always artichoke branches already cut out. What to do with them?

Christmas Pines

Today I’m finally pulling out the Christmas Pines and matching Pretty Pines thinlits dies. They were one of the must haves in the holiday catalogue but somehow, I’ve not used the whole set together. Hence I was thrilled to see that they are carrying over so that I can really play with them.

I used the snowflake stamp in the Christmas Pines set for my background and heat embossed that in silver. I wanted some of the snowflakes on the pines but didn’t want to be too heavy handed. So I stamped and heat embossed a number of times on a piece of garden green and then cut the pines out from that. So there are little speckles of silver, but not too much. Next I added the sentiment from the same set, stamped in cherry cobbler.

I used the glue tip, I’ve shared once before that I saw online. You use a sponge dauber and carefully dab on a little glue to the cardstock piece whilst it’s on the silicone craft mat. As long as you keep your diecut still, it won’t have glue on the front and you won’t have oozing. The excess glue on the mat just rubs off once it’s dry. Next I pulled out the silver thread from a piece of twine in November’s paper pumpkin (must make some more alternatives with that) and used that to tie a couple of the jingle bells onto a cherry cobbler bow and then attached that to the card with a mini glue dot. A garden green card base finished off the card.

Holly TIEF for a quick and easy card

I hope that you’re all enjoying the close out sale – lots of goodies there on sale, fun isnt it? I decided to highlight a product which is retiring (and still available) and one that is in the annual catalogue and staying with us. I have been using the Holly TIEF quite a lot in my Christmas crafting but you’ve probably not seen it much because I’ve been using it a lot for embossing the envelope flaps. It’s great for that, but it also deserves to be on a card in its own right.

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Holly TIEF - Suite Seasons - Layering Ovals Framelits Dies

So here’s a piece of garden green which I dry embossed with the Holly TIEF – before lending the folder to Julia – and then I had to make it into a card. There just happened to be a piece of gold glimmer paper on my desk and this is where the card came from. I used the triple banner punch to add some glitz and even pulled my gold heat embossed favourite sentiment from Suite Seasons from my pile of “waiting to be used”. The green and gold together were nice, but I wanted a bit more pop – so I used the layering ovals framelits dies (LOVE these!! – I ordered the layering circles yesterday at 50% off!) to cut out a scalloped cherry cobbler mat and added the three smallest cherry cobbler enamel dots as the holly berries. With the sentiment popped up over the glimmer paper and a cherry cobbler card base, I really like the fun of this card. And I will be embossing the envelope flap to match.

Just a note about the glimmer paper – it’s not very smooth due to the glitter so the best way to attach anything to it is using the dimensionals and pushing down firmly to ensure a good attachment. And of course popping up the sentiment is aesthetically pleasing also.

Warmth and Cheer with Stitched Shapes

I can’t believe it’s almost December, apart from a bunch of Christmas cards I’m completely unprepared. And maybe I should start actually writing the Christmas cards soon. Last year, it was very last minute – crazy I know seeing as I started making them in August! Here’s another card using the Warmth and Cheer DSP stack and the stitched dies – I think I might make a box to go with this set.

Warmth and Cheer DSP Stack - Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies - Suite Seasons

It’s a very simple card to mass produce – it uses a piece of the Warmth and Cheer DSP cut down to 5″ by 3 3/4″ – this is so that there’s enough left of the 6″ by 6″ square to put on the envelope flap. My black mat is 5 1/8″ by 3 7/8″ to provide a little border. This way, my borders are different sizes, it’s a bit too samey if the borders match. So the black shows 1/16″ all the way around and then I put it on a regular cherry cobbler card base.

The sentiment comes from the really versatile set, Suite Seasons, and I actually used retired cherry cobbler embossing powder instead of my preferred clear (mostly because my clear embossing powder has been missing since the crop – probably fell out of my bag during transit). I like to ink up my stamp with versamark and then the colour of choice and use clear embossing powder. This way, the ink is juicy enough to hold the embossing powder and also the colour of the ink ensures that you have a perfect image. The exception is if I’m embossing in white – craft ink is juicy enough without versamark and I still use white embossing powder for this. I only use it because I have it! – must try the clear to see the difference once my order containing a replacement pot arrives.
