Square Pillow Box Thinlit Dies

Yesterday I shared a mini treat bag which I’d used to dress up a gift for my Secret Pal at this weekend’s crop. Here are a few more gifts this time wrapped up using the Square Pillow Box Thinlit Dies.

Square Pillow Box Thinlit Dies and A Little Something

As before I used some retired DSP since it’s a great way to use it up. This is fun paper but so busy that it never made its way onto a card. The Square Pillow Box Thinlit Dies are really fun – and there are lots of extra pieces that I haven’t used yet. Some of these would be good for adding to cards too, I may play with this some more at the weekend.

Construction is easy, you just cut out two of the main piece, glue them together on the tabs – I used fast fuse on one and the new tear tape on the other. The tape was slightly easier but they both worked well. Then you push in the ends to finish the box.

I stamped the sentiment using the A Little Something set (one in garden green and one in lost lagoon) and punched them out and attached it using a glue dot to some ribbon from my stash. Definitely fun.

See you tomorrow,

Gift bag punch board

In the new catalogue, Stampin’ Up! is bringing out a gift bag punch board. I already have one – I picked it up in Michaels last year with my sister. So I can show you what it can make.

I have a couple of new Paper Pumpkin subscribers and I thought that it would be nice to give them a thank you gift. Plus I’m still on a kick to use up the leftover pieces from my July 2014 kit. I made the two bags out of one piece of DSP – it’s a retired paper from the holiday catalogue – I was looking for something with Soft Sky to match the sticker. The white satin ribbon is also from the kit – there was about a yard left over which was perfect to thread through the bag. The white tags are also from the kit – I added a circle of soft sky to the back to add a pop of colour, cut out using the circles framelits. The soft sky coloured heart is a sticker from the kit (there are twelve of these) and I used the included stamp set for the sentiment in lost lagoon. I happened to have a spool of the Painted blooms cotton twine in soft sky (it was in a crop goody bag) and it was perfect for tying the tag to the bag incorporating one of the kits silver stars. I was thrilled that I still had the tissue paper that the kit was wrapped in – it was perfect to put inside the bags. Now I just need to work on the contents!

See you tomorrow,

My Favourite Things

I’m late posting again – I’d blame the jetlag but it’s been five days since I returned from Barcelona although it seems like months ago. Perhaps it’s the cold that I picked up on the plane that is slowing me down. Or having to actually make my own coffee and food again! I got very used to walking into the Bodegueta Provenca on the way to school and having a coffee put in front of me – if Jose was in the middle of a conversation with someone, it would happen without a word being exchanged. And in the afternoons I didn’t need to practice my Spanish for “a bottle of water and a glass of wine” much either. But the staff there took the time to let me slowly stumble through spanish sentences for which I’m very grateful and it made a huge difference to my understanding. I just wish I’d taken a photo of their famous smashed eggs so that I have a better chance getting somewhere close.

But to get back to carding, I’m going to another weekend crop in a couple of days and I signed up for two swaps. One is my favourite things and can be a drink, snack, tool or embellishment that you can’t craft without. That’s a pretty open category. I tried to come up with a tool that I can’t craft without and there are many. For most of them you only need one, however I have three 6 inch metal rulers and I use them all the time. They help me line up sentiments and ensure that when I’m adhering card, it’s centred.

For packaging, I pulled out the Pillow Box punch board from We R Memory Keepers. You need to add 2 inches to the length of the box to allow for the end. I used some Maritime DSP.

Hersheys Kisses Trees

When I read Susan Itell’s blog as usual this morning, I saw the Hersheys Kisses Tree and since I’m going to a craft fair tomorrow I decided that I needed to make some. Susan found the directions on Brenda Quintana’s site and the tutorial is really clear with loads of pictures. I incorporated a couple of Susan’s suggestions but apart from that was true to the tutorial.

Susan suggested using some of the leftover cardstock from the trunk to cover the nuggets which makes the trunk more trunk coloured. She also advised using sticky strip to adhere the trunk to the rest of the tree rather than relying on the mono glue. This seemed like a good idea.

I packaged the trees in a cello bag tied with ribbon as per Brenda’s suggestion to prevent any of the kisses falling out although I’d be surprised if they did. They are quite a snug fit. These trees are made in mossy meadow with chocolate chip trunks although I also did some in garden green and they looked good as well. I was really happy that my simply scored board arrived earlier this week – this project would’ve been a pain if I’d been trying to use the envelope punch board or the stampin’ trimmer.

See you tomorrow,

Superhero curvy keepsake boxes

Whilst at the crop last week (I can’t believe that is was a week ago!) my sister and I borrowed the mustache die from Randa (thanks Randa!). Caro had the curvy keepsake box die and we had seen a superhero made out of the box on Facebook. Sadly, I can’t find the post and so can’t give credit – if my sister can find it, I’ll come back and edit this.

This is a pretty simple box to make – you cut out 2 of the dies and glue them together to form the box. If you use your bone folder to slightly curve the sides of the box, it comes together more easily. It is of course easier to adhere the mask when the box isn’t assembled. And here we had a first. I was convinced that I would never use candy dots, I don’t like the plastic look. But after struggling to find the right size punch (with my sister giggling at my efforts) I gave in and used two of her candy dots for the eyes.

Here’s a better view of the cape

This is made by cutting out part of another half box and then using either a scallop edge punch or the scallops on the largest square framelits. I think that the largest oval framelit would work as well.

I’m doing another craft show tomorrow and I now have the curvy keepsake box die and the mustache so I’ll be making some more of these this afternoon.
