Just Add Text

I’m using another new set from the annual catalog today, Just Add Text which is a beautiful collection of six heartwarming sayings. I sort of didn’t intend to play with this one, but somehow I was watercoloring away before I knew it!

Liz Bailey Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - Just Add Text - Layering Leaves Dynamic TIEF

I started by inking up my image in versamark and then tranquil tide and after stamping it onto the watercolor paper, I sprinkled on clear embossing powder. I’d first tried it in black but it was a bit harsh, tranquil tide was perfect. I watercolored lightly with the aquapainter, being sure to get variety in the depth of the colors. When doing the leaves, I purposely didn’t colour them in order but coloured random leaves so that the variety in colour was spread out. For the flowers I used berry burst with a dot of lemon lime twist in the centre. The layering ovals framelits dies made it easy to cut this out as well as a berry burst scalloped mat. I continued the leaves theme by dry embossing a piece of tranquil tide with the layering leaves dynamic TIEF and after adding some of the half inch berry burst ribbon, popped up my sentiment on dimensionals.

It was impossible to get a really good shot of the glossy embossed sentiment – this one definitely looks better in real life!

I hope you enjoyed today’s project.

And congratulations to Babe for winning the blog candy. Babe – just confirm that you haven’t moved since December and I’ll mail you the package right away. Thanks to everyone else who took the time to comment.

Move Me Thinlits Dies video

I meant to share this video yesterday along with my card that I made with the Move Me Thinlits Dies so here it is today with Brandy from the head office demonstrating these awesome dies.

Having watched the video myself again, I’m inspired to play with the hummingbird. Look for a project with that soon.

Move Me Thinlits Dies

Today I’m sharing an exciting and unusual product that was new in the annual catalog, the Move Me Thinlits Dies. The name really tells you what to do with them – as you move the stamped piece behind the window that the thinlits cut out, your butterfly (or hummingbird) actually appears to flutter. It’s really clever!

The important tip is to run the thinlits through 4 times – and after the second time, turn the card with the die a quarter turn so that the slats are being cut in a different direction now. As long as you do this, the slats will cut out perfectly. The other major point is the stamping – the two striped images line up. I concentrated on the body of the butterfly and it was easy to ensure that the stripes fit together properly. This ensures that the butterfly flutters properly.

I used real red and daffodil delight for my butterfly and for the sentiment and flowers which are from the Happy Birthday Gorgeous set. It took me a while to make a card with this set because it seemed as if it would be tricky, but it’s really not. And it’s such a unique effect.

Here’s the inside piece:

Blog Candy For Birthdays

Happy Birthday to My Elegant Cards – it’s three today. Actually it’s my birthday too – I always take the day off work for my birthday and three years ago, I decided that what I wanted to do with the morning was start a blog. So I did. And here we are three years later. I wanted to celebrate with some blog candy to thank you for following and reading my blog.

It’s still summer but it’s been getting a little chilly lately so the stamp set seemed quite perfect. And with Halloween coming, the pumpkin pie cotton ribbon seemed like a good choice. There’s some Floral Boutique designer washi tape and some not quite released Season of Glitz Mini Gift bows – they are adorable, just 1 1/4 inches across and in three colours. They come in a package of 45 but I’ve just included 6 here. I was looking for something to put them in and found the container of last year’s mini jingle bells so I put the bows on top, perfect fit. Here’s a close look at the lower part of the blog candy

Just leave me a comment telling me which of the new incolors is your favourite by the end of Wednesday and I’ll randomly draw a winner. Sorry – this is only open to US residents.

Fresh Florals DSP stack

Today I’m sharing a glue pack box; it’s a decorated wooden stamp set case filled with my favourite adhesives — and there’s even room in there to add paper snips and a bone folder. It’s an awesome gift for a beginning – or even established – crafter. It keeps all your essentials together for going to a class and it’s obvious if you’ve forgotten to put one of the elements back in the box. My last class loved them and I’m currently waiting for more supplies to arrive so that I can make more – in fact the Fresh Florals DSP stack covered one is waiting for a new fast fuse and snail (mine are in the in photo) so that I can give it to one of my attendees.

Inside I’ve put a fast fuse, SNAIL, tombow multi purpose glue, mini glue dots and a sheet of both the regular and mini stampin’ dimensionals. I do occasionally use the others glues, but it’s very rare. I’ve packaged this up in a wooden stamp set case and decorated it with some designer series paper. Then I added a little stamping. One of my favourite sayings from Crafting forever seemed apt for the front and on the back, one from Layering Love. This is a value of over $36 but I’m offering it with shipping included for just $38 (US only). Just email me at lizbaileycards@gmail.com and I’ll send you an invoice and get your pack sent out to you asap. Papers will vary.

If you want to cover your own box, you need a piece of DSP measuring 11 1/4 by 7 inches and score at 5 inches from each end.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project.
