Paper Pumpkin August 2016 Alternate 4

Today it’s time for my Paper Pumpkin August 2016 Alternate 4 using the Bold Botanicals kit.

Paper Pumpkin August 2016 Alternate 4

I took one of the crumb cake/kraft pieces of card stock and stamped the hello in early espresso. Next I used the embossing buddy and then heat embossed the flowers with gold embossing powder. I cut down the piece of card to allow more of the patterned paper (also from the kit) to show. I added a piece of early espresso to mat the calypso coral DSP. I then popped this entire piece up on dimensionals and attached it to a crumb cake base. Pretty quick and simple. I did wonder about using the new(ish) copper embossing powder but wasn’t sure how it would look with the crumb cake – I may have to make another in copper!

Tomorrow is Thursday which means it’s time for another challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches and time for a new hostess, Karen. You still have time to get in under the wire on this week’s challenge, it closes at 6pm EST tonight. But get ready for September which has five Thursdays and thus the final challenge will be the double. This sketch challenge combined with colours intimidated me at first, but it’s a lot of fun. Do join in the 4 challenges before it to get yourself ready!

See you tomorrow,

Liz

#ImBringingBirthdaysBack

Tuesday is the day that Stampin’ Up! gives demos a weekly update and today is no different. Most excitingly is that from September 1 through 21 Stampin’ Up! is running their first Special Offers. This is the replacement for the weekly deals we used to have and this is offering 25% off select items in the annual catalogue. I have no idea what’s going to be included so I’m as excited as you.

The only issue here is that the exclusive limited edition set, Thoughtful Branches is as supplies last. At the time of writing it’s still available, but there’s no guarantee it will be available during Special Offers and of course it’s unlikely to be discounted (just my opinion).

As for #ImBringingBirthdaysBack, well I got a really thoughtful card from Shannon West, the person responsible for the #ImBringingBirthdaysBack and who is aiming to send 2000 birthday cards this year. She’s well on her way – mine is numbered 1359. It’s an awesome endeavour and she took the time to write a really nice note inside the card. I don’t think I can send 2000 in a year but she is inspiring me and many people to send more cards and that is a wonderful thing. It’s so great to go to the mailbox and find a handmade card.

Here’s the card that Shannon sent me:

Fun and thoughtful isn’t it? Anyway, I encourage you to send a card to someone. It could make their day.

See you tomorrow,

Paper Pumpkin August 2016 Alternate 3

Happy Monday! I hope that your week is starting off well – I assume it is if you’re in the UK since it’s a Bank Holiday. For me, a transplant to NJ, I’m off to work, looking forward to next weekend which will be a long one. But first, here’s my Paper Pumpkin August 2016 Alternate 3 which was inspired by CAS on Sunday’s theme this week of balloons.

I took one of the card bases and one of the pockets from the kit and used the Balloon Bouquet punch on them in different directions to get these fun coloured balloons. The balloon strings are from Balloon Celebration and are stamped in island indigo to match the DSP as is the sentiment from Cottage Greetings. I offset the balloons a little so that I could keep lots of lovely clean white space.

Next it was simply a matter of arranging the balloons and then gluing them in place, one at a time, to try to keep the bunch as I’d planned. Three of them are glued and the last two are popped up with dimensionals. A pretty simple alternate although it does use quite a few other products – hopefully you have them or some that will work if you want to try this out.

See you tomorrow,

Liz

Happy Birthday to My Elegant Cards

Today is the second birthday of my blog, My Elegant Cards. It’s also my birthday; I never work on my birthday (after running foul of layoffs on it when I was 25) and so I had the time to start my blog then. To celebrate, I’m offering blog candy today (only to residents of the US). To enter, just comment on this post before Saturday 3rd September and I’ll put you in the draw. Here’s what you’ll win:

Would you like a closer look at these? I thought so. The unused stamp set is from Sale-a-bration last year and it was one of the most popular offerings. I used my set quite a lot.

There are three stacks of DSP, each consisting of 12 pieces of a 6″ by 6″ stack, basically each is a quarter of a DSP stack. I thought that this could be like a mini paper and ribbon share. The first is from the retired Have a Cuppa DSP stack.

The next is from Playful Palette DSP stack from the current annual catalogue

The last stack is from Serene Scenery which is in the current catalogue and consists of photos on one side and patterns on the other. Here are two shots showing both sides of the paper.

Finally the ribbon:

There’s quite a mixture here – we have retired daffodil delight seam binding ribbon, rich razzleberry 1/4 inch cotton ribbon and natural 7/8″ cotton ribbon on spools. Then I decided to go very share-like and have put a yard of various ribbons on card. Starting at the right hand side, I’ve got the silky taffeta duo from the upcoming holiday catalog (cherry cobbler and emerald envy) plus the 3/8 inch ribbon trio pack (delightful dijon, mint macaron and rich razzleberry). I realised that I had more card than planned ribbon so I added some retired pool party seam binding ribbon before the delightful dijon mini striped ribbon and the melon mambo stitched ribbon, both from the annual catalogue. Finally I filled the rest of the card with the wide watermelon wonder luxurious stitched satin ribbon.

So what do you think? A worthy birthday celebration I hope. Just leave a comment before Saturday EST and I’ll add you to the drawing. Good luck.

I’m off to go and play with my crafting stuff now.

See you tomorrow,

Liz

Paper Pumpkin August 2016

Well I’m taking a break from cleaning which is all I’ve done today (apart from a 30 minute run/walk and a chat with my sister) and I’m happy to say that things are improving massively. I’m getting a lot of satisfaction out of knowing that things are getting very clean although I’d love some time to craft. That will be tomorrow which is also the second anniversary of the start of my blog. So there will be blog candy – make sure you come back to check it out!

I haven’t shared the video of this month’s Paper Pumpkin, Bold Botanicals yet, so I’m going to remedy that today.

As I mentioned, I’m not thrilled with this kit and have been making a couple of alternatives – so far. I have more to come so stay tuned.

As a reminder – there’s a special going on right now:
