Paper Pumpkin May 2016 alternate 6

For this alternative use of the Paper Pumpkin May 2016 kit, I looked for some DSP which would work with the die cut. Most didn’t work due to having too large a pattern but this piece of the new Pop of Pink Specialty DSP worked a treat. And it’s amusing to use bright pink with the Many Manly Occasions kit!

Quick and easy to do – I cut a piece of DSP a smidge smaller than my usual insert of 4″ by 5 1/4″ and then stuck it onto a whisper white insert. Then I used the glue dots provided in the kit to attach it to the inside of the die cut card. I added the whisper white because this piece of DSP has a mostly black reverse side and I thought it a bit too harsh for a birthday card!

Next I used my current favourite birthday sentiment from Watercolor Wishes and stamped it badly in melon mambo. As in the h of happy birthday had a smudge. So it was time to look at my embellishments to see what would work to cover this and found the now retired botanical garden jewels. Perfect. They jazzed up the card rather well, hid the error and left me with only 3 jewels for one more card. I’ve almost finished a pot of embellishments. Amazing!

I used a random number generator this morning and it selected number 1 which is Rita. Thanks to all for your comments, they were fun to read.

Rita said “Congrats! I have been making cards for over 20 years. I get so much pleasure out of making a card and giving it to someone. People are so appreciative to receive them”

Rita – just email me your address at lizbaileycards@gmail.com and I’ll mail the cards to you.

See you tomorrow,

Swirly Scribbles thinlits dies for LIM

I made this card at the weekend and yet here I am sliding it into the challenge just under the wire! There’s just been too much excitement with the new catalogue launching to post my card. You’ll notice that I’ve finally managed to stop using the swoosh from the Swirly Scribbles thinlits dies and have actually used one of the scribbles!

Here’s the banner which inspired my card

Do you notice the shadow down the diagonal on my card? Yes, I cut the card to create the line in the sketch

I just took a regular cardbase, lined it up on my trimmer where it looked right and just chopped off a piece. I could’ve used that for the inside part but I actually used one of my precut liners which is a 1/4 inch smaller in both dimensions. I used the piece I’d removed from the card front to get the angle right and then embossed it using the Softly Falling TIEF. This serves two purposes – it decorates the card front when the card is closed and makes it clear where you shouldn’t write to prevent your message showing. I glued the non-embossed piece next to it with an added sentiment from Cottage Greetings.

Do you notice a couple of tiny pearls added to the dry embossing? There are three. I did the same on the envelope too, where they are easier to see.

For the focal point of the card, I finally used one of the scribbles from the swirly scribbles thinlits dies to cut out my real red piece. The sentiment is from Sunburst sayings and I popped up my very vanilla circle for a little extra interest. A very clean and simple card that’s easy to make although it looks a little intimidating to start with.

Don’t forget that I’m offering blog candy but the deadline to comment is tonight.

See you tomorrow,

Garden in Bloom for CAS C&S

Happy Thursday! And being Thursday it means it’s time for a new challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches. It’s also the start of a new month which means it’s time for a change in hostess, and this month it’s Bev’s turn to come up with the challenges. She’s starting us off with a nice summery mix of colours – I think in the hope of coaxing summer along!

Stampin' Up! Garden in Bloom and All About Everything

Here’s the banner for the challenge:

As often seems to be the case when I’m making cards for the Design Team, my first card didn’t make me happy. It definitely didn’t please my current Critique Board made up of my brother and father. They thought the card was fine, but not Design Team-worthy. I’ll share that one soon so you can weigh in too. Martin suggested using my “favourite stamp” which he believes is the bee. I really do like it’s very cute. Martin’s concerned I’m going to wear it out and should get a spare one just in case! It’s from Garden in Bloom.

I wanted the bower of flowers to really feel as if the bee had masses and masses of flowers to visit. So I decided on a one layer card with the flowers off the edge of the card. First of all I stamped on a piece of scrap and cut out my mask. On my test piece (it became the test after I got an extra ink splodge), I did all the outlines first but then it was hard to match the insides because I’d made a point of turning the stamp in various directions so that the flowers didn’t all look uniform. Oops. On my real piece, I stamped the whole flower at one time. Much easier! The sentiment is from the bonus set from Paper Pumpkin in April, All About Everything. It’s quickly become one of my favourite Happy Birthday sentiments. It’s hard to say what my favourite stamp really is, regardless of what Martin says, but the Garden in Bloom stamp set is definitely one of my favourite sets.

I hope that you’ll go over to the challenge blog to check out the rest of the Design Team’s cards and to have a go yourself. It would be great to see your card in the gallery.

Don’t forget that I’m offering blog candy. Just comment on this post before Saturday and tell me why you like making cards for a chance to win.

Also, although I ordered today, if there’s sufficient interest in another product share, I’ll order again. Just email me to let me know if you’re interested and if so, which shares you’re interested in.

See you tomorrow,

Liz
